One of my most-requested topics!
This video explores what a Doom Slayer workout might look like, taking inspiration from military training and some awesome DARPA research! A Doom Slayer Workout should focus on developing strength endurance, stamina, speed, mental toughness, explosiveness, and brute strength. Doomguy needs to carry huge amounts of weaponry while leaping around like an agile gazelle.
To that end, I think we should include some of the events from the Army Combat Fitness Test: in particular the "sprint drag carry" which tests and trains many of those things. A Doom Slayer Workout could also include long flows of hybrid exercises, kettlebell training, and perhaps something for thermal regulation...

@@SuperLari1234 in my flow training i do Russian dancing, which is heavily focused on leg strength. Listening to the Mastermind theme from doom 2016 is absolutely a divine experience while doing that training lol

There is a heavy ass iron weight anchor next to it as well. Dude is über mensch- plays video games, can rip up a 9 string guitar, lifts weights and trains martial arts, loves animals, enjoys his cheat meals, is good at machine maintain every and repair(he created his new suit and the Ballista) and is an avid reader of science, classic literature, philosophy. What a chad.

@@deadshot4178 I'd say that workout would heavily involve leg tensile jump strength, grip strength, an athletic/lean build for chest and long distance movement and exercises to extend your arm/hand reach

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I’m sure he changes it up all the time doing stuff for the channel, but I’ve always wondered what his go-to routine is like when he’s working on a video that’s focused on non-physical training.

Been watching him for a while. Even though his videos are vast, they all model similar fitness needs. Strength endurance. All his videos you see him doing the major compound lifts in the gym using the barbell and calisthenics and cardio at home using body weight exercises, kettlebells, medballs and his sand bag and chin up bar. So doesn't matter if its batman, doomslayer, super soldier, anime characters he can cover them all because his training is versatile and it all comes back to strength endurance over a typical body building style of training. He just used essentially the same exercises constantly. If I were to guess what he was doing to achieve this. I would say he is training high frequency (maybe 5 to 6 days a week), and smaller sets to over do it. So 3 sets. 5 days a week and day 6 would be a cardio day. This would keep his sets within the optimal 10-15 sets per body part per week. While most likely doing rep range from 8-10 reps on assistance and endurance exercises and 6-8 reps on his heavy compound lifts for strength. Keeping him under 30 reps a session for each body part (also optimal) As for training days. I would say he is in the gym 2-3 days a week doing compound lifts for strength, (most likely 2 days) while the other days at home working a kettlebell based workout with sand bag and body weight exercises thrown in and finishing off with explosive movements with med ball. Then running on cardio day. So his base workouts would be compound lifts, squat, row, bench press, with 2-3 assistance exercises. Then on "strength endurance" day he would be doing kettlebells swings, cleans, med ball throws, slams, sand bag work for rotational movemts and body weight pushups and pullups/rope climbs. That's probably a basic week

I'm so glad you mentioned that Doom Eternal can be a good form of brain training! I remember after my first playthrough it felt like I had a natural cognitive stimulant or something. Your reaction speed, problem solving efficiency, and hand eye coordination are challenged to the point where the thought processing from the beginning of the game, and the end are on two entirely different levels. If you've never played before, I cannot recommend enough that you rip a d tear your way through the game! And if you wanna use the Doom Slayer as inspiration, play Eternal's soundtrack when you workout. It's fantastic! Excellent video as always!

@@Small_child_punter He's giving us unique exercises we probably wouldn't have thought to incorporate in our training routines and giving us knowledge about training that'll stick with us and help us progress our fitness level, this is especially helpful for the people that have hit plateaus, newbies or people that just want to switch up their training style in some way. Yeah he's just teaching us exercises, but his advice is very solid for both novice and advanced fitness enthusiasts :)

I sorta think that's just nonsense. The lower your body fat percentage, the more lean your face will look in most cases. Also, the turbo body builder guys that are obviously juicing have that stereotypical lantern shaped head because their jaw muscles develop as well. Don't take this as gospel, it's just my opinion

One thing amazing about Adam is that he's amazing, he's running with his foot landing on the front part of his foot. Then the heels follow. This is the natural way of running. All These things hit what you are talking about - of course you can add some, but it can really be this simple Speed + Power: Sprints Plyometric Calisthenics Olympic lifting/Powerlifting Endurance: Fartlek Style Running Skipping High Volume Calisthenics Strength: Strongman Exercises Powerlifting/Olympic Lifting High Volume Calisthenics Gymnastics (Rings etc) Stability: Running on Uneven Terrain Calisthenics on Uneven Terrain Strongman Exercises Pilates Exercises Flexibility + Mobility: Yoga EROM (End-Range) Exercises Weighted Stretching Gymnastics Drills Attention Span (etc): Meditation Neurofeedback Training Visualisation Awareness Apps/Games Sensory Isolation (Block Most Senses) Fighting Skills: Martial Arts Qigong + Yoga Sparring (Lots of It)

Part 2 of the video or detailed workout: include more like hybrid sets Like going from 5 speed broad jumps, to an Overcoming Isometric(opening a Demons Chest) to a ballistic Isometric to per say some sword swings(and how this cross modality isn’t as counter productive as one thinks for example post workout cardio seems to elicit greater hypertrophy response in the short term than strength training only, as well as cardio followed by Strength training elicits greater hypertrophic response( how the hormones intertwine, the runners high contributes to greater strength put put or how cardio supersetted with high rep squats improves endurance both locally and globally

Ballistic Isometrics is when you try to move an immovable object as fast a possible, like doing quick and powerful tugs in a tug of war, or pushing the wall as if you were throwing a ball

Yes, as long as you can’t finish the entire motion, example with a bicep Curl you can’t go past half way and you just keep exploding trying to get past that point even though you can’t

As part of my functional training as a Firefighter I have been cooking some ideas for the mental training of the "combat mind" and Doom Eternal itself has been a very strong idea for a mental challenge in between sets precisely because it is the combination of preparation, training and adaptation while thinking clearly and strategically

That makes sense, load up a slayer gate, pause the game, do an intense workout and then inbetween sets run through the slayer gates. That could also be a good way to get into speed running the gates too lol

Great vid. I think any Doom slayer workout definitely needs grip training ( for all the ripping and tearing). I also really like the idea of mixing in different tasks and skills between sets. Maybe some kind of target practice (bb gun, nerf, or even just a tennis ball) during a workout would be useful.

This is awsome Adam. I use this kind of training for my judo. Have you looked up Brian alsru? He favours giant sets where je incorporates strength and conditioning in the same set. Eg Bench Press Bent Over Row Weighted halo Speed rope for 1 min rest1 minute then repeat

If you're struggling with Shoulder Mobility, Try doing Dumbbell Pullovers with a Large Range of Motion about 25 Reps and do that every day. Mostly for your handstands, it'll build strength in the end ranges.

I was inspired by your Batman videos to apply some kind of brain exercise under extreme physical stress. I found strategy games in between exercises are quite difficult and force one to focus in a very different way. I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and there’s not a lot of space to run here so I am forced to use a treadmill. When I use the treadmill I begin my run by staring a game of monopoly on the hardest setting. I run until I am bankrupt or I have bankrupted all the other players. It takes a while and the run distance is based on ones ability to make sound decisions while playing. It can be as little as 4 miles and as many as 10.... I love your book and videos. As a Green Beret and paramilitary OGA guy I’m always looking for interesting non conventional ways to improve my physical performance and mental abilities. I love the themes and the science. I’d be interested in seeing your take on the iron skills of martial arts. It’s a tall order but I have a few references. Also Standing Zen (rituzen) (zhan zhuang) and its effects would be a great video from you as well. Thank you for all the videos and inspiration.

Hello Mr bioneer. I am having problems with my shoulders, they seem to crack and pop during simple workouts, I don't want to ruin the by not doing anything like rehab for them. I would very very much love a shoulder strengthen, and prehab and rehab video. Please and thank you : )

I wrote a Slayer inspired workout once. It was all about raw,brute strength and power. The workout: Power Clean and push press 4x3-8 reps Single arm kb press 4x3-8 reps Deadlift 4x5 reps Bench press 4 sets of 4-10 reps Weighted pullups 4 sets to failure

Pro-tip: they got rid of leg tucks in the army because hardly anyone could do one. They replaced them with planks. The max for planks is doing them for 3min40sec. Good luck, that shit sucks.

HowvI would design this raining... 1. Use a full body complex weighted movement(thinking, Squating while lifting overhead weights) to finish off the fast twitch fibers. 2. After about 5-7 minuets of rest, weighted cardio of a random siquence circuit training. To both train the slow twitch fibers, and the mind. 3. Stretching. 4. Halo gaming.

I knew an ex Aus Army commander who was forced to retire at 35 after he jumped out the back of a Humvee his pack on and broke one knee and his hip. It was due to wearing so much gear on a daily basis, apparently this type of injury is increasingly common in military. I heard it was because humans aren't meant to have that much bulk and go over rough terrain. The constant twisting of ankles or missteps puts far too much strain on joints.

Doom Eternal is the absolute best game I have ever played. It dethroned Painkiller for me....The music, the combat, the music, the combat, the weapon design, the level design. I mean sure boss fights could have been better, but other than that, just pure fucking awesomeness !!!!

a Nightmare-level game in Doom Eternal may last up to 2 hours or more for fresh Nightmarers. But 2 hours should be your maximum time limit
