@chatham43 more people voted for corbyn but even more people voted tory that year, largely to keep him out. I was a devoted Labour activist during those years and share the blame for that miserable defeat. After a while you do have to listen to voters.
"John" is my generation. And I agree with him. I am youngest of 6, council house, working class background. Worked (and still working) hard, 40 years in the same "company". 10 years without a pay rise. Wife retired recently from 38 years NHS specialist nurse. I am not rich, but I am happy to pay tax and spread the assistance to all who need it. Love to all who live and breathe.
You're well off though, your wife alone is probably drawing a 30-40k a year pension.. whilst NOT having to work.. why would taxes bother you when you're in that position lol
@chester6343 Pension isn't anywhere near that tbh. We lost our daughter and my wife did not work for few years after that. She was an L&D nurse for early years and couldn't imagine working with toddlers again as our daughter was one. She volunteered as a class room assistant for KS1 kids, then did a degree to retrain as a teacher, then at the last gasp decided to go back to nursing, was then part time for the majority of the remainder of her career. Took us 10 years to get out of the debt we were in living off one wage for those years she didn't work. But hey, all that is too much information 🙄 I wish no-one to have to struggle and for all to get the help they need, when they need it.
@@robwakelin5559 I'm sorry to hear that, it must be difficult for you both. Taxes are a difficult one for me because whilst I see the merit in paying towards a better society it's very prone to becoming mismanaged.
David is an outstanding example of Reform cluelessness. The birth rate is falling. Not slowing down. Falling. The elderly population is getting bigger. Who's going to be working? These people are thinking like children.
@@markgt894 No government has ever been voted in by the majority of the Country. Low turn out or not...he received more votes than everyone else. It's that simple.
@@markgt894all our elections are like that, it’s how fptp works. Cameron only had 2% more of the vote but you don’t see people downplaying that victory. It’s all regurgitated spin… you don’t understand what starmer achieved at all. He had to bring together a huge amount of different people and constituencies to win that many seats. To do that - especially in a deeply hostile media environment - yes, required him to use vaguer messaging etc. you can be Corbyn and make a very focussed message to a small demographic and lose, or you can play to win. He won, big time. The vote share is irrelevant. It’s the seats.
It's ridiculous to suggest that a PM has to work 24 hours a day. That's hardly a sensible or reasonable way to judge a work ethic. He's not going to swan about like Johnson, is he? 🙄
Agree, Or party like Johnson and the other politicians fined by police for breaking rules while the country was locked down. Fourteen years and what was their legacy? What I want is boring politicians who don’t crave TV exposure they get on with the job of governing the country. Serious politics
The last caller just thinks that everything will be fine if all “immigrants” (people he doesn’t like) are thrown out of the nation. That’s his “back to basics”. So deluded.
@@chatham43 There was no need to read his mind, that simpleton just parrots his own interpretation of what Farage bloviates, this was the reason why we saw many interpretations of Brexit. Farage leaves everything open to interpretation so that he can never be nailed on any one issue, he is a master of equivocation which enables him to easily manipulate that particular type of feeble minded person.
LBC, when are you going to get rid of Nick Ferrari? You could call him balance, but when he is trying to defend the open racism of the Reform party candidates, then he has stepped over the line.
While at the same time trying to milk the 6pm cutoff thing. When you look at what someone will attack versus what they'll defend, you can really see what their true beliefs are
Totally agree., How much is enough? live in Australia where the aged pension is means tested. I was unsure about that when I first arrived but having seen it action totally agree with the concept. One of the first we noticed when we arrived here was that the wealth of the country is much more evenly divided amongst the population . Not saying it’s perfect though. It’s more work for the state and staff who have to know what they are doing but most people qualify for at least a part pension and a concession card which covers things like doctors visits and medications etc. Also because not everyone gets the maximum it means that it goes to people that really need it so consequently it’s more than the uk state pension. Countries such as Germany and Australia started planning for an ageing population shortly after WW2 but successive governments preferred to just kick the can down the road. And now the chickens are coming home to roost ! The triple lock is actually unsustainable. Sadly the uk has been living way beyond her means for decades. Labour governments in the uk have been used to spending money rather than saving it so I think we are in for some very interesting times and could face the prospect of bankruptcy if not careful.
The guy not taking his state pension may seem selfless, but he’s actually just letting the government determine how to spend it. Better to take it and donate it to a cause you believe in rather than have that choice made for you.
Say about Johnson what you want, but at least he didn't waste his time by spending it with his children. He spent it on parties (sometimes while breaking his own laws, sometimes with Russian spies), writing a book on Shakespeare, or cheating on the missus.
barbra7562 Reform UK have 5 seats in Westminster and took 2nd place in 98 other constituencies all achieved in 4 weeks and 3 days. And you don't consider Reform UK as a credible party. That comment is extremely naive keep watching barbra.
@@keithtpc1508 Have you read their “contract” with the electorate? Have you heard the impossible to deliver promises they made their voters? Their sums don’t add up. They can say what they like because they won’t need to deliver any of it. Do you seriously think Farage and the others will be holding regular constituency meetings or be interested in their voters issues? Farage be as conspicuous by his absence as he was in the EU parliament.
@@jamiewilliams685 They'll never be a serious government. They are just a more extreme version of The Tories. Conning people is not a phenomenal achievement.
@@MrRailjunkie A credible party is perceived as fit to govern the country. To a lot of people, that is Reform. For a new political party to win that many seats and that many votes is nothing short of staggering, and it does give them a certain level of credibility in the eyes of the average voter. Whether you're for them or against them, I'd put money that they'll win more seats at the next election.
Because he is being honest telling everyone that he intends to have a working day until a certain hour and then spending time with his family when possible.
Exactly, and as they said, everyone says he's a beige robot and then when he does reveal a little about himself to humanise himself with the voters the Tories use that to beat him over the head with, in the most 'dogwhistle' way possible. Noone had any real problems with Blaire or May going to church on Sunday, so why should it matter if he observes his wife's religious traditions?
The public needs socialism in their lives , let's end failing neoliberalism that's delivered super massive wealth inequality in U.K. Love to you all always
What we have atm, is the Conservatives being in government for the majority of the time, and then to rely on Labour to build things up again, only for the Tories to sell it all off and destroy. Rinse and repeat. It's an absolute shell game. If we don't get PR pretty soon, then I'm just going to lose all hope.
Yes, adopt the European non-profit healthcare model, instead of State run healthcare propped up by billions going to for-profit healthcare to reduce waiting lists.
The recent incarnation of the tories was an abortion. The last thing we needed was socialism that is a consistent shitshow in every country in every flavour. it starts off OK then the inherent problems of it surface then it ends in disaster and everyone says we'll thar wasn't real socialism (it'll be better next time we vote it)
It's such a shame we can't get the money back off the tories over the years of their criminal waste..by rights, the whole party should be charged with fraud and embezzlement .
Yes! I’ve said the BABY BOOM generation are the luckiest, spot on caller Jon re housing, apprenticeships, new nhs, Lower population post war, jobs, pensions were pensions, etc - my dad paid his mortgage off at 50, & started his own business at 70, retired? No chance! Well off? Yes, 3 week cruise currently!
Now. . . Keep them out! Dont just hand the government to labour one time. Keep the tories out long enough to start fixing the damage thats been done. This is going to require constant vigilance and turnout by the british people.
That last callers first go to for Labours "policy to fail" was to fix essential public services......all the while turning a blind eye to the billions wasted on HS2 and the £320m p!ssed up the wall on Rwanda.
If anyone was wondering how long the honeymoon period was going to be or how the media were going to behave towards this new Labour gov, here's your answer, several media outlets and journalists going on about how Starmer would like some family time after 6pm on a Friday. For heaven's sake, this nonsense is so reductive and insulting to the people's intelligence.
I'm looking forward to the average working person being better off in life then under the tories. I hope Keir Starmer can make a difference which is why I voted for him and Labour.
House prices going astronomic are the result of capitalisim , building socitys were sold to the rich to take profts then they decided to take two people's wage for a mortgauge , you get the same house for double the price more money for profit.
I love sir kier, I’m 34 and I feel like I’ve fallen into a category where I’m just a generation behind. Our houses prices are increasing but are they in the way they did in 2000’s? Sadly not. Are those 50/60 year olds now sitting on properties that can be sold for 5x what they brought their property for, even though they’ve done just the same as my wife and I? My parents in law fit into the category I refer too, they are currently selling a house in which they bought for 300k, now for 795k. They’ve decorated and put in a new kitchen in the last 15 years. Seems fair.
My assumption was that you only got a state pension if you didn't have any money. I can't believe someone who is "comfortably off" would be entitled to a state pension.
Why cant tax just be simple? What money comes in to your account? Pension, work, cap gains etc... anything over say 30k tax it at 10% then 50k 20% 100k 30% etc etc... so state pensions are tax free but some boomer on final salary pays their FAIR share. Then a similar method for businesses so you can't hide your money in business and business expenses
😂 The Remaining Tories answering journalist questions , we need to work out where we went wrong 😂 . Look out on the streets and to finally give the bankers their bonuses back just before you knew you were losing the fight. Disgusting people who only looked after their wealthy mates.
Glad tories are gone but just found out that starmer is reinstating jaque smith to be a mp and the only way to do that is give her a peerage, so she won’t be accountable for anything in the commons. It’s torie game all over again.
And here you have it…3rd Caller John clearly educated, then back to the guy after talking utter trash. It’s a shame johns vote and this guys vote count for the same!
REFORM would have got no seats if people knew about the SDP. If the SDP got any news or media coverage, they would take a lot of votes away from Tory, Labour and Reform. But they dont say sensationalist things like Farrage, they are just a very normal party with very normal values and goals. I'd really like to see the SDP get more publicity.
@@methanedirigible Just responding to the guy who thought people should represent their home towns. Was he born in Blenheim? He spent some time living in the presidential palace in Phoenix park, I know.
I think it’s silly to paint Starmer as some sort as saviour, my cat could have ran against the Tories and beat them such was their despicable record especially over the last 7ish years and their contempt for ordinary people. Let’s see if the NHS does improve, then we can clap Starmer. It is wrong imo that politicians can choose to parachute themselves into safe seats even though they have no affiliation with that area, the ppl that worked on behalf of those ppl should be allowed stand.
if everyone doesnt think it was a forgone conclusion that tories would be ousted this election was a very tactical voting farage neally upset the day but over the years all i see is we are sick of who is in charge lets go back to whoever blairs 10 years now tories 14 years i did see the public was scared of corbyn cause of the policies he said they would do was so extreme lets see how the next few years pan out
I voted Labour this time, and I usually wouldn't. If I'm anything to go by, I would say don't mistake the quantity of the numbers with the depth of those numbers. Meaning, while I am a responsive voter who looks at the terrain that we're approaching in a given timeframe and voting on what I think is best suited for that, I have absolutely no loyalty to Labour or any other party. If I feel that they betray the mandate, if they march back into far-leftism or start reintroducing observably terrible ideas I'll simply go elsewhere. I think I might be like many of the voters who decided to vote labour this time around.
corbyn even got more votes than starmer in 2019, (never mind 2017 !), despite starmer having allied with the establishment to bring corbyn down oddly reminiscent of how LBC presenters have allied themselves with the establishment over the sacking of sanghita, it's never been anything other than their own self-interest
