Doomsday cEDH Tutorial why no one plays it but maybe why you should

So doomsday doesn't see that much play in cEDH currently. And there are good reasons for it not seeing play. But it is a cool card so lets talk about it.

As a fervent defender of doomsday as wincon i love this video. There is a "EDH Doomsday Primer" on moxfield that is basically a huge primer that goes deep on doomsday and how to build your own piles.

I run doomsday In esper yennet high powered but not technically cedh. Infinite turns. No thassa combo unless the table is super competitive

I've been experimenting with doomsday in bluefarm, and personally I think it's incredibly good and should be played more. With tymna out there's fairly easy piles of already played cards. All I've added is brainstorm and gitaxian Probe to help with breaking the pile besides tymna and it works well

You should call your deck the blue Doom. But jokes aside I think doomsday should be considered more in bluefarm honestly. Bluefarm can so easily be built towards a midrange deck where doomsday is used.

@@cedhtv that's why I've been considering using Doomsday Malcolm Tymna. Malcolm giving treasures makes it easy to cast stuff post doomsday after a tymna draw. Plus a turn 1 Malcolm can put you ahead on Mana really quick.

You can search doomsday with ad nauseam, also you can put some kind of free counter on the pile

I've been on Doomsday in my Yuriko list for a very long time. I've played it in other lists but it's true it fell out of favor for me as well for a while. I still prefer it to say Necropotence that I always kill myself with :)

Shouldn’t you ideally run both Doomsday and Necro ? Necropotence is an autoinclude in any deck with black mana for me. But then again I like drawing cards more than I like to win. Necropotence ain’t my favourite card for nothing.

Ah yes, I’ve won many unexpected games with doomsday in my Yuriko deck. Except that one time there was an Op Agent on the board that I forgot about. Hurt enough to consider cutting it😂

Doomsday is my favourite wincon & is actually the reason I play cEDH. I’ve had it sitting in my folder for a long time, always wanted to use it. Bought a commander legends booster one day and pulled Tevesh & Ishai in the same pack. Esper has always been my favourite colour combination so I took it as a sign to finally build a cEDH deck

I play a Prosper, Tomb Bound Doomsday pile that wins with final fortune, Jeska's Will, twinflame, Dualcaster, and (LED or protection). The church is still strong!

Tbh, I would really appreciate seeing someone make a thorough breakdown of combos dedicated to cards like Doomsday, Tainted Pact, ad naus, Demonic Consultation, Praetor's Grasp. I mostly play mono black but feel there is a huge lack of analysis in these potential wincons, even in the dedicated discords.

Doomsday is a fun way to try win even if you do get blown out, that’s why in my dihada deck I have a doomsday line but I only go for it as a last resort

Dihada is just the perfect Doomsday commander. She alone puts your whole pile into the yard and you only need one extra mana to get everything back via Sevinne's Reclamation

I'm Currently proxying Doomsday in my yuriko deck. I like how a yuriko trigger can just win me the game, although the main objective of yuriko is to either burn the table or go into Thassacon/taintedpact

Doomsday is my main wincon in Yuriko, and it's the deck that convinced me Doomsday was a great card. It's also perfect for putting in other combos with Yuriko like Sakashima's Student loops with an opponent's Dockside. Force everyone to waste their interaction on the first combo, then finish up with the Oracle (you don't even really need the Pact/Consultation since your library will be so small).

I have played doomsday Yidris and the doomsday piles are absolutely insane. You can stack your library to cascade into protection spells and significantly reduce the mana required to win

I have played grenzo so much and that doomsday pile. It is hard to get there. Sure grenzo doomsday is a viable thing. But compared to a lot of other cEDH decks it has problems currently.

@@cedhtv hopefully we get more support for using the bottom of your deck in future sets. Currently if grenzo dies you dont have any other way to pull it off. I imagine thats one of the issues.

Love your videos. Currently building Abaddon, doomsday. Would love to find a way to infinitely cast doomsday with like snapcaster, dockside and nadier’s nightblade. Seems like there should be something there. Sac outlet for snap and dockside has to make like 8 mana. Eventually, maybe I’ll get there.

K'rrik runs doomsday much better and faster, practically like a cascade deck, I landed a win pretty constantly around t3, although win t1 and 2 are not that hard to pull. Honestly doomsday is a bomb, just people don't recognize it.

I don't see how the first loop he talks about goes infantine. Even if you have a way to draw jeska's will every time where is the third black mana coming from, and you can only loop it for as long as you have artifacts to target.

Oppo is definitely issue for Doomsday players, but what I dislike about this one-card combo is that it's pretty much All-in and can be disrupted by something as simple as counterspell. Let's say you used your protection to resolve Doomsday and then your Thoracle gets countered. Now you have your hand and 1 card in your library, which is basicaly loss. I think Doomsday is interesting card and I would love to try it, but it's too risky and not efficient enough to be played in cEDH.

I'm surprised Yuriko wasn't mentioned! I play Doomsday Yuriko alongside Oracle+Consultation since her triggers are able to crack the pile and depending on how many ninjas I have out I can do leaner piles with more interaction included. But I can also just win normally without the Doomsday, so I don't have to include other dead cards in the deck.

@@burocraciaeso3894 there is a way to loop doomsday with different cards, it's just finite how many times it can be changed. Casting or discarding cards from your hand will become eligible Doomsday targets, replacing cards of your choice from the pile. For example, if you can generate infinite mana in a loop while maintaining life, then cast or discard Tendrils of Agony from hand and you can swap Tendrils for the life maintainer when re-looping Doomsday.

I have tested this with Thrasios and it is hard. So I can imagen it with golos being close to impossible. what is that 10 mana. and 4 have to be black.

You can do that but you don't need to. There are other cards that can do the job that are just better.

It's one of my favorite cards and it's 1 of the cards I would use in a deck that's called bailout it needs to be updated and somehow I've lost the list so I'm gonna have to start from scratch but it's based around shroom the hedgemon it might be updated its whole point is to help me out and hurt you at the same time and it's fi'm in it's from the perspective of how the banks got bailed out by the US government I would use this to great effect in that deck

I actually made it myself. I call it claiming dark because t actually builds upwards. But it is only 50 sec long and what you hear is a long loop. I have it here and there in some of my other gameplay videos. But only as that 50 sec. I haven't really uploaded a music video with only that in it. I've been playing Doomsday in several decks for about a year now, and I can honestly say it's one of the most underrated cards in my meta. The best case scenario is when your commander can crack the pile for you (Yuriko and Vohar are both amazing for this), but it's a scary card either way. I always hear "Counter the cards in the pile, not the Doomsday itself," and just laugh while I stuff 2 combos into the pile.

@@Serouzo Oracle is the default one card combo that goes in as the 3rd or 4th slot. Since you don't need Pact/Consultation with the Oracle, you then have 2-3 slots available before you draw the Oracle. Depending on what your combos are, that's plenty of room. In Yuriko you have Sakashima's Student loops, in Toluz I stuff in the Bomberman combo, I'm sure there are plenty of other options. It's just a matter of getting creative. It's also a lot more feasible if you have an external way (i.e. from your hand, your commander's ability, whatever) to dig through the pile in case of interaction. If you're unable to do that, those slots are going to have to make up for it instead of putting in the extra combo.
