This is a first in what will be a series of videos intended to be a tutorial for people new to Legacy Doomsday or interested in getting some basics explained. In Part One I will be going over the structure of the deck, the different component parts and how they make up the whole of the deck.
I hope you enjoy!
If you are interested in a Doomsday tutor session or in having me play your favorite deck feel free to get in touch and we will work out the details.

Just discovered your channel. Doomsday has always looked incredibly cool to me, but I've been too intimidated to give it a real shot before. I think these videos have convinced me to give it a real try! Thanks 👍

Awesome, glad you’re taking the plunge! Remember not to get too disheartened if things go awry sometimes. I’ve played Doomsday consistently for like 4 years and I still sometimes forget to put Thassa in the pile or something silly like that. I think the biggest discouraging factor stopping people from playing this deck is the fear of messing up and looking stupid. When you mess up with a delver strategy it means maybe you wasted the wrong land or countered the wrong spell two turns ago. With Doomsday and similar combo decks “the whole table” will know when you make a big punt with your pile. But it amounts to the same and it’s how we learn. I think accepting this is key to persisting with the deck :)

I’ve been playing Doomsday almost exclusively since Oracle’s printing and I’m still super excited for this series! Thank you!

Great Video. Is the list in the video what you would recommend to play as a good starting point to learn the deck?

Thanks! Well sure. It’s a fine starting point and then you can always look at tweaking certain slots like number of cyclers, personal tutors, discard, daze etc

Great content as always. My 2c :)- If you could play 8 DD you probably should play 7, but you probably make grief an integral part of the plan for the extra copies. I don’t mind the extra tutors for the same reason - pitch to force :). For me, I generally won’t leave home without 1 swamp / 16 lands. It gives you more old school DD resiliency against permanents like trinisphere/waste. I think the number of lotus petals should vary - if you have a splash, they are better than the cab rit. And I find the 16th land better than a cab rit, so it’s rare that I play any these days. I think with 1 mana DD piles available, you don’t need ideas unbound / deep analysis shenanigans. Although sometimes I miss ideas unbound against control where you have a few land drops and just want to load up on disruption in the pile. Shout out to predict- easier to cast and better pre combo. Also excited to try 1 Lorien revealed. It’s the 16 th land that pitches to force and can be dark rit played to draw the pile. I think cavern is less good these days, as most control decks play dress down, so you tend to need to win a counter war vs them post DD anyway. Still good in conjunction with abrupt decay :). Keep on truckin’. And by trucking I mean putting DDs on the stack :D

Thanks for the insightful comments as always Stu. Regarding Cavern I think it’s honestly still essential. It’s essential in that, as you identify, we would prefer to not have to have a counterwar post DD. I basically prefer all or near-all interaction post DD to be uncounterable. Hence Boseiju, Who Endures as an answer to Dress Down (or Leyline Binding on our Emrakul). Boseiju is honestly an amazing card in that it beats a single Dress Down even through a veil or under a Teferi.

I agree that Boseju is good too.i actually bring it in with 2xabrupt decay against delver just as another green source :D. Don’t forget it only costs a green with a Sheoldred in play XD

Exactly what I have been looking for, thanks a lot! I've already decided on 4c control for EW now because its not enough time to practice Doomsday but in the long term I'm trying get proficient with Doomsday as well and browsing Discords has been quite ineffective so this tutorial will be perfect to listen to on my way to work. P.S.: Do you have a standard rate for tutor sessions and letting you play a specific deck?

This is amazing, thank you and can't wait for the next video. I'm 10 leagues and 2 FNM's into the deck and am in love. Still very bad at it, but that won't deter me!

This is so cool and wonderful! Thank you Martin for being such a valuable, classy and humble Doomsday father for all the community. Of course I couldn't held my inner-self from screaming ”why there is that bloodstained mire without any swamps.. why.. why why why” but that is just me and my ”In Legacy everything is just perfect” attitude.. Anyhow keep up this pristine work. The deck is amazing and you are amazing!
