Carl, my 1965 Ford Falcon, is really starting to come together and today we're reinstalling all four door latches so we can actually open and close the doors!
As always, special thanks to Mr. Ed for letting us do some degreasing and cleaning at his place while we were doing some reassembly at his shop--especially thanks for the tip about using 30% vinegar (and for letting us use some of that as well)!

Ellie, You are doing a GREAT JOB!! Before you install the windows in the doors replace all of the Plastic rollers, it's easier now instead of later. I installed sound deadening inside the door to make it quieter inside, you can also install it on the roof before the headliner. You will soon have a one of a kind Falcon!!

Ellie and Matt, I love watching your videos and seeing the two of you working on Carl and building memories and bonding moments together. Ellie, I love the color you picked and the reason behind that decision. Heritage Green to honor your late Grandfather. Love It! Now....I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but I have to do so. When you installed the door latches....you forgot to route the door lock rods upward through the holes in the top of the doors. You will....UNFORTUNATELY.....have to remove the door latches in order to get the lock rods pointed up toward the upper part of the door. I recommend poking the lock rods through the holes and screwing on the door lock nob thingies, then reposition the door latches and install the screws. I was just rewatching this video on my living room TV and saw the lock rod hanging down in the section of the video where Ellie was installing the unlatching rod. I hope you have not made too much progress on the doors...such as installing the door panels and such.....because it would suck having to undo all that work in order to install the lock rods. I am looking forward to seeing Carl fully together and looking great. I hope you all the best of luck in the remaining rebuild and so many years of enjoying Carl. Thanks for such wholesome father, daughter and classic car content. Sincerely, Tim

First, thank you so much for encouraging us. Second, oh no and thank you again! We COMPLETELY missed that, but fortunately we weren't planning on door reassembly until this weekend, so you definitely saved us some time and heartbreak. Thank you so much, Tim!! Would you mind if we gave you a shout out in the door assembly episode? We'll have to take the latches back on and off, obviously, and we'd love to be able to thank you on camera. Thank you for supporting and looking out for us!!

I am so glad that you saw the comment in time to avoid doing work that you would have to undo....just to have to redo it. A shout out in the door assembly video would be so cool. As a 53 year old man, the number of times that I am cool are fewer and farther apart. Being mentioned in your video would fulfill my cool factor for the rest of the year.

Case closed on Carl now all the doors and panels are on. Fantastic effort and precision to ensure the doors all shut evenly. Only 1 thought to share and that is instead of using regular WD40, which is a great Water Dispersant but can dry out and "gum" up over time, a better option would be WD40 Silicone spray. Another, probably better option, is graphite spray for all Carl's hinges, latches, and locks. Graphite is really good for lubricating locks and other close tolerance parts where low pressure metal to metal contact is a certainty.
@ElliesGarage

@TheInsaneShecklador

@@ElliesGarage New weatherstrip can take a while to take shape. Some is worse than others. Occasionally it's so bad you need to set the strikers to hold the door or trunk slightly more open then you'd like and then move it tighter after a few weeks.

Add a some dish detergent to your solution, not only will the vinegar start working on the rust but the detergent will emulsify the grease much better and allow it to be rinsed off with water.
