I would imagine that dosing ammonium hydroxide would also raise alkalinity because of the remaining hydroxide ion. But Mike seems to be saying that he needs to add more buffer since adding ammonia. Is Mike adding it in the form of ammonium hydroxide? Or has his coral growth gone up so much as to to overshadow the effect of the added hydroxide ions?

I've been dosing ammonium bicarb for years. Best source of N for a reef tank.

How do you dose the ammonium bicarbonate.

Hye, just wanna update. I watched the previous video, about how iron can reduce the dino. So i dose my freshwater micro element into my tank, which is contains iron. I dosed like 0.1 ppm Fe , set the UV , set the no3 to 25 ish, po4 to 0.25 ish., set the Temperature to 27 celcius. Thennnn bammm, dino no more on 3rd weeks. All thanks to your video 🙏

Randy just told me last week to start adding ammonia for my Nitrates. Sofar its working pretty good.

So i understand that the hydroxide is the better version than the bicarbonate? What’s the best place to purchase ammonium hydroxide?

Did they say how? what dose? i''ll see if I can find R.H.F.'s article.

Can you dose ammonia chloride too?
@siggyincr7447
@siggyincr7447 Месяц назад
You'll be left with an excess of chloride ions. If you do significant water changes regularly might not be an issue though. But as Sanjay sort of eluded to, why add the chloride salt when you can add the hydroxide and help boost your alkalinity and not mess with the chlorides?

Best way to lower phosphates that are always .30 while nitrates are 5ppm? I’ve been doing 10% water changes bi weekly, lowered feeding, and used phosphate E but nothing works

Look into Lanthanum Chloride products

@timjohnson3913
@timjohnson3913 Месяц назад
The phosphate is bound up in the rocks/sand. So something like GFO (and presumably Phosphate E), will lower the level of phosphates in the water, but that will be temporary because the rock/sand leaches phosphates back into the water until they reach equilibrium. If you continue dosing small amounts of phosphate remover over time via the instructions on the product, you will see phosphates come down eventually.

@@timjohnson3913 yeah that’s where I’m probably at Just consistent dosing until it falls

Just be patient and slow as Lanthanum Chloride can be poisonous to fish.

Also in your title it's reads ammonia, ammonia, and ammonium are completely different compounds, ammonia being toxic. I wouldn't want anyone to get mixed up

Your fish dose the ammonia constantly 😂
@siggyincr7447
@siggyincr7447 Месяц назад
Not "completely different compounds" but rather the ionized and non-ionized versions of the same compound. And they go back and forth freely depending on the pH of your water.
