In this video I present the Jargar "Dolce" strings for double bass. What I forgot to mention in the video: The price of these strings is quite attractive and it is no problem to get each string separately. So especially for mixed (combined) sets, they are a good option. I heard that some players use the low strings in combination with gut strings on G and D for example.

Absolutely swinging solo playing. It’s really nice to hear you blow. I think you’re onto something here. I don’t know if this was as enjoyable as your previous videos but I could easily imagine you creating videos of all the available strings on the market and becoming THE source for string players around the world. Heel mooi.

Thank you very much! Well yes, I think many fellow bass players see me as a specialist for double bass strings and that's cool. I don't know if I'll ever get to review all the strings on the market, but I will try. At some point the companies will support this project more actively I think (and hope).

@@stringmatrix yes. The most successful RU-vid creators find something that doesn’t yet exist and fill that need. You are really into something here. Thank you again.

I've heard a lot about these strings. Good to hear them played on your channel. I must stay as much as I appreciate the reviews, as a beginning player I love hearing you play. Always good tone, time and phrasing. Excellent example of what we should all strive for.

Thank you so much for your words! The string testing and the YT channel are a kind of hobby for me but in the first place I am a musician and I really appreciate to hear that you enjoy my way of playing. All the best for you!

Thank you for making these string comparison videos. I’m currently an electric bassist but I’m planning on acquiring a double bass this year and I’m a freak about strings. I have Thomastik flats on my Jazz bass and love them for the low tension and effortless playability. I’m hoping to find a double bass string with the same feeling. Your videos will give me plenty of insight. Keep up the good work!

Years ago I used a Jargar G string and Pirastro Flexocor d a and e strings the Jargar gave m a slightly brighter top end sound I was mainly an orchestral player.

Thanks for the video! I have been using the G as kind of a gut substitute and really loving the sound and feel, even though it is a thin string. I have just started experimenting with the D but it is darker than the G. I combine them with Superflexible solo E and A. The Jargar E and A are kind of thuddy on my bass.

Oh that's interesting. I read from another bassist that he uses the E and A to combine with plain gut D and G. So many possibilities!

Greetings! How would you compare these strings to Evah Pirazzi Slaps in terms of tension, tone and sustain? To my ears they sound darker and more thumpy but wondering how you experienced it having played both. As always - thank you for the wonderful content you provide to the bass community! 🙏

Hi Eric, the most drastic difference is the tension. The Jargars have a much higher tension. And also: The steel core is less "elastic" than the synthetic core of the Evahs. So they feel very different, you can't really play the Jargars with a high action. As for the tone, I didn't try the Jargars in a band setting. Yes they are a little darker. I am not sure if their thumpiness will really translate into a "cutting through" punchy sound when playing in a band. But I may be wrong. Also, I would say you don't have many options to modulate your sound with the Jargars in Pizz, I think that the Evahs give you a little more options of phrasing and articulation. But the biggest difference is the feel of the much stiffer strings. As I said in the video, you don't get the bouncy feel that we like about gut strings.

@@stringmatrix Thanks so much for this detailed response. Exactly what I wanted to know and then some. I am going to stick with the Evahs based on the tension and the their ability to offer more options in phrasing. That is very important to me. Thank you!

I have problems with a zingy G string on one bass, even with EVah Pirazzi or even an Oliv. I think this might be a good option for a G string.
