If you are wanting to see heritage horsepower, check out the Y22 shunt which runs between Dunedin and the Fonterra storage warehouse at Taieri. The Y22 shunt is predominately dominated with double DC's, and they sound magnificent when notching up.
The Y22 shunt brings in tarp sided containers full of products from Fonterra processing sites and empty containers to be loaded with products for export.
After exchanging the recently emptied rake, with a full rake to be unloaded, and pushing in a rake of empty export containers, the locomotives sit idle, until they depart with a rake of full export containers and the recently emptied containers. The rake of empty tarp containers will be detached at the Dunedin Railway yard, the the rake of full export containers will be hauled out to Port Chalmers.

Great video. I love seeing the details in the operation. I've got a soft spot for the DCs - am intending on filming a couple of remaining DC-hauled shunts up here in the Waikato soon. Subbed!

DCs are great for shunting too, not the most powerful but far more responsive. The independent brakes apply and release immediately and power is delivered immediately too, unlike the DF and especially the DX. It takes an eternity for the loco brakes to come off and the loco to start moving, even after the engine notches up. I can only hope the DMs are half as decent

Yeah. You can easily spot 4755 & 4951 as they are the only DCs in a different livery. Shame 4409 is sitting on rotten row at Hutt.

@davidlipscombe916 yes it is a shame, but they have sat around for too long deteriorating. Glenbrook Vintage Railway have purchased some & you'll see them if you ride Te Huia or The Capital Connection.
