@@matthewburno interesting. My children use these particular ice "cubes" in various types of water bottles whole summer and never told me there is this issue involved :)
I won’t lie, most every time I see ice gadgets I immediately dismiss them considering the track record we have on the channel, but this one wasn’t too bad! Price could be shimmied down a bit IMO tho
Ngl, I'd buy those ice trays just for the smaller cubes. I whack my ice with a hammer before I add them to the blender. But I'd rather add a third tray than let that bin take up wasted space in my oversmall freezer.
@@dongshengdi773also let's not forget how much plastic wasted in this toy. I can get 3 or 4 simple good ol' Ice trays from all this plastic & others mats wasted in one product.
I bought a set of three silicon ice cube trays, with individual covers, on Amazon for around the same price. They work great and have regular size cubes. All silicon trays release much easier if you let them sit at room temp for a few minutes first. This is why the second tray empties much easier. One thing I find interesting is that the ice cubes I make with regular tap water here in Montreal are clearer than even the ones you made with distilled water. But we have excellent quality tap water here in Montreal, in fact I would put it up against any bottled water on the market. This ice tray seems to be well worth the money, however, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if I needed one.
Amazing to finally see an ice cube tray on this channel that actually produces a substantial amount of ice when sat side by side with the dollar store tray! And the fact that the gimmick of the product is actually functional and doesn't hinder performance is another nice touch
I have this ice cube tray and bin and I love it! So much easier to get to the fridge without spilling and while I didn’t find that pushing down on the tray worked well, they twist just like regular ice cube trays. I’m getting one for the downstairs fridge too. Great product!
I watched this video when you released it, and immediately ordered it. Been using it for a couple of weeks now and this thing is nothing short of amazing! We love it. Thank you so much for posting the video. We would never have gotten it otherwise.
Putting the ice trays in the freezer with the storage container allows for more cold air to hit the bottom tray, which allows all of the cubes to freeze faster. If you put the trays in the freezer without the container, you won't get as much cold air hitting the bottom. It's not really necessary if you don't have any time constraints.
I have this ice tray and it's great, only gripe is if you have ice in the storage already I guess it freezes the closest tray harder and it's much harder to release so you'll have to wiggle it and slam it to release those but the very top tray will release very easily. It's also true that it takes longer to freeze the water but it's fine if you're not in a rush.
Yesterday gave away an ice-making machine....Thank you for this..can't wait to get ! Will be perfect for ice I put in Yeti thermos & the water gulps needed due to fans blowing through the night,,, Seriously encouraged... Thanks so much !
I don't see the plastic collection bin lasting very long. It's stored in the freezer, then force is applied to it when pushing out the ice. It's definitely going to crack very soon.
My take-away from this review is that it seems to be crucial to say "HI YAA" when releasing the ice 🤷🏼♀️😂 Seriously though, I kinda like this one but not crazy about the price. I think the reason that the second tray releases better is simply because it's out of the freezer for a minute longer than the first one. I could be way off, it just seems like it could be the reason. Thanks! 💜💜💜
This feels like an episode of Afro Samurai, where the dollar store ice tray has the number 1 headband for a very long time, and now, this double decker ice tray has caught up to claim the number 2 headband.
If you want clear cubes you could buy a cheap electric toothbrush and set it on top the ice try as it freezes it vibrates the air bubbles up and out of the freezing water
I wish they had a smaller size option for the cubes, gen better if they could be the ball shape ones, I really wanted those mini 0.5" ball ice trays (with the container and trays to go with, they claim is easy release) too work but I'm to weak to get them out the trays and had to return them, I have hand issues, so most ice cube trays are not accessible enough for my disabilities. Plus it makes so much room in the freezer, and when you ianlly get them out they re mostly melted by then.
I see things on here I never even knew existed lol. Had I of known about that ice set I would of bought it, but I have since got a new fridge with an ice maker so I no longer need those.
I hear the best of the best is still the metal one that has a lever built in from like the 1930s. The metal hits freezing temperatures which helps freeze the water faster, or so the theory goes.
$20 for that? Geez. There is so many good quality inexpensive counter ice makers out there that doing this seems silly and old school to me. I've had my ice maker for over 2 years now, I could never go back to not having one. It's so convenient.
i have one double decker they are worth it i give 5 out of 5 star because i dont need add tray because it came with own tray so i just fill and stick in freezer come back in 7 hours and redo it not bad and ice doesnt stick to tray so i just tap it fall out petty nest lol
I had two different versions of this and I just didn't like them. I think I'm just too used to the regular ice cube trays. Or, I'm just too old and set in my ways lol.
Distilled water may make prettier cubes but then you lose all the trace minerals from the water. My favorite thing to drink is ice water, Great review. I like the idea of having a covered box full of cubes always ready. I don't have one of those fancy refrigerators that give me ice from the door. 😄
Its not water dirtynes that makes it not clear. It is air that gets trapped inside. If you want clear ice, then you need to put something that vibarates those trays.👍
@@Drpepperspray1010 There is a difference between filtered and distilled water. Obviously you need to further educate yourself. At the very least, learn how to talk to people without being rude and obnoxious.
@@thnkx further educate myself? You’re the guy that actually believes those trace minerals are substantial. Multiple studies say the minerals in water make little to no difference at all in your health. It’s like saying the air in the corner of your room is healthier to breath because the window is partially opened. Nobody cares
Pre-freezing the container will result in less melting after dumping the ice cubes into it. I agree with their method. I wish those cubes were 4x the size however so they wouldn't melt as fast.
@@NiSE_Rafterhow does faster melting mean fast cooling? Less surface area touching the water would actually mean less cooling, not more. Also, you're right that smaller cubes fit into more things. But bigger cubes last longer while giving the same cooling effect. Aka you don't water down a drink as fast with bigger cubes. #TheMoreYouKnow #Science
@@djjezza If you have one cube it has 4 sides of surface area. if you split that one cube into 4 cubes, from 4 surface sides, you now will have 16 surface sides, hence the faster melting. Its like when cooking one whole chicken. that will take longer to cook as appose to cutting it into pieces.
I'm going to buy one of these right now for my 84-year-old neighbor who struggles with getting the ice out of traditional ice cube trays. She's got pretty bad arthritis in her wrists and hands and can't easily "twist" the ice cube tray to knock the ice cubes out. She's often embarrassed to ask me to knock out her ice cube trays when I go visit her. This one I think would work terrific for her - just simply press on the lid! It's worth a try, and I don't mind spending a few bucks to surprise her with something like this that will help her continue feeling as independent living as possible.
I have this and I really like it. I have a very small freezer and it doesn't take up much space. Personally,I like a smaller cube for iced coffee and soft drinks. it definitely lives up to the positive reviews about it and the price point is worth it. Checks all the boxes for me.
I just bought this for 3 reasons: 1: As much as I enjoy my current ice cube trays, I’m sick of them tasting like my freezer and hope this can help with that. 2: I can get rid of that big and clunky ice cube bin that’s taking up half of my freezer. And 3: you actually liked it, and you never like an ice product…so now I kinda have to. 😊
I like the concept of this ice cube maker!!! It looks like it wouldn't take up too much room in my freezer. I am considering getting one. Thanks for the review, James!!! 😊
Speaking of ice, what are your thoughts on reviewing some of the nugget ice makers? They are generally pretty expensive but I'd love your thoughts on some of them!
Where have u been all of my life!? Haha I'm a sucker for a good ice cube tray and have bought many from Amazon. I'm ordering this one right now! Thanks
I have these ice trays and I absolutely love them. I like the size of the ice cubes and they always release from the container so easily. Plus I love the scoop
We have no cure for cancer yet but we have 2000 different versions of ice cube makers... And no one ever really complained about the standard ice cube tray to begin with. Why do inventors keep trying to solve problems that have already been solved?
I think it's the time when you do the first one. Maybe that one to two minutes waiting time isn't enough and by the time you get to the second one it is. Just a thought
I think I might actually try to catch this one if it goes on a slight sale - Two trays alone is more than enough for my family, and the fact that the tub can hold up to 4 trays while you're still able to make 2 more? And the cubes are begging to fall out? That's pretty dang good! It's so simple too.
So, I'm cleaning my shoes and putting everything back, and these insoles look ROUGH. I'd like to replace them, but i've never been an insole person. i have no frame of reference for what would be good. I know it would be a bit of an opinion piece, just like your pillow reviews, but those have never let me down. Could you review a bunch of different shoe insoles from different brands and price points, and let us know what would be good?
I have a variant of this that I got from Amazon. It was just a bit more luxe, as it came with TWO ice scoops and a small pair of ice tongs, if you're gonna be scrupulously sanitary. It works as advertised, but if you're gonna stack everything together, it will take longer for the ice to freeze, and notably the bottom tray will take longer than the top. I pour the cube water before bed and then after I get up in the morning, I rotate the trays. Everything should be frozen in 18 hours or so, sooner if you lay out the trays in the freezer like you normally would. I don't, 'cause the compactness of the whole affair is a definite plus. I've found that it's best to let the trays thaw for five minutes before dumping them out in the basket (bucket?). It just loosens things up a bit so you're not getting so much of a workout trying to pop the cubes. Even so, for some reason one tray will give it up easier than the other. Go fig. All in all, though, I've never had a better experience using ice cube trays! 👍 Oh, and to get perfectly clear ice, I think you have to boil the water you're gonna use first, of course letting it cool to room temperature before pouring it in the trays. From someplace I remember hearing that it's the oxygen/air in the water that makes the cubes cloudy, and bringing it to a boil gets it out. Don't quote me on it, though.
Ya want clearer cubes boil the water. Boiling releases the oxygen air bubbles that make the cubes cloudy. You also have to flash freeze them for 100% clear which most home deep feezers will not do.
I actually have this ice cube tray. I love it. I think the ice cubes are just the right size for using in my Vitamix for smoothies. I drink a kefir smoothie one or two times a day. The bigger Ice Cube's do not blend as well.
I think the half-moon ice cubes my freezer makes has lead to killing my blender. I still allow it to sit in my counter, for some reason, because it does have a little blending power but unless I'm going to use it to help with thickening soups (pour a little of the soup in a blender, then add it back to the pot), I think I need to say goodbye to it. I'll make sure to pay more for a better blender that will last longer.
Other, older, ice-gadget reviews of yours were recommended to me today and I (re)watched them. I ask again: Why is the ice cube tray a device we're trying to re-invent?
Little bit of broth with a little bit of water mixed up pour it in there and your four-legged kid will thank you for it. It's their version of a popsicle.
Some people like to crunch ice, so smaller cubes are preferable. Also it doesn’t smack you in the face with a big ice burg when you take a drink! Another reason people might like smaller cubes is to avoid watering down their drink too much :)
Well you’ve done it now. Not only did I buy this before the end of the video but my best friend did too. Thank you for this fine video and all your other ones too
The second tray of ice cubes had a bit longer to melt ,so they all poked out. You should have determined the minimum free time. That way you might be able to do a lot more in one day. Cheers, Rik Spector
