Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his RU-vid channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover's came about. In a nutshell "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing a song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. OK, well, let's start, just follow me". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 👣💯 *AJ* 💯👣
Have watched always on my mind loads of times, still makes me cry! Angelina has the rare ability to make us FEEL the music! She is also brilliant at reading the lyrics from her iPad and not lose a moment of the song! (You may not have noticed but she occasionally glanced to her left and you could see the reflection on her face). All of this and only 12 years old! To interpret the meaning of a song and then to express the emotion in it in such a beautiful way is something so extraordinary it is beyond comprehension when you consider her age. The soulfulness within her turns into a form of pure love when she sings for us. We can't help but to enter her world and listen to her give definition and a beauty to every word she sings. Great reaction! On "Stay" did you notice Ivan's facial expression? He did an Interview with Alan Papier (Wrapped In A Warm Blanket) and says some of their recordings neither of them are real familiar with the songs. Angelina says take 5 or 10 minutes to get familiar and in about 2 minutes she says just follow my lead as she reads the lyrics. She is like a computer, crazy, God Bless!
Angelina did 3 tributes to her paternal grandfather. The other two are "Happier" and Dean Martin's "Return to Me". Very tough for us angels to watch Angelina unable to continue singing due to being overcome by emotion. Her version of "Stay" is stunning. Anytime we see Ivan Mendez on guitar, we know Angelina is 12 years old.
From what I've gathered, she was very close to her grandpa. I've heard he used to take her out to help feed the homeless, and that line in million miles, "I'll never regret what I do" was something he used to say to her. " be true to yourself and you'll never regret what you do." I believe it was xmas 20 or 21 she was spotted out on the streets of LA Passing out food to the homeless. Following in grandpa's footsteps
This is the memory of her Swedish paternal grandfather, while "Million Miles" was written in memory of her Japanese maternal grandfather and grandmother Meri's husband, who passed away a few years later. I believe that Angelina lived in the same house with her maternal grandparents.
Love both the renditions, but her singing and arrangement of Rhianna's classic son 'Stay' is far superior to the original. Her and Ivan are not that familiar with the song, so Ivan just follows her lead as best he can, while she has to glance to a tablet at her side for the lyrics from time to time. While doing that, she actually re-arranges the vocals 'on the fly' and proves one thing conclusively. No one, and that includes Rhianna, can bring forth the emotion laden penetration that this girl can do when it comes to heartfelt ballads. I don't care that Rhianna has sold over 100 million records, Angelina is simply better than her with regard to songs like this.

Yes she is very comfortable singing "Stay" though you may have noticed she is reading the lyrics to this song to her left as she delivers this remarkable upgrade to this song......one of her super powers....has done this in dozens and dozens of videos, reading the lyrics for a song she is not familiar with yet delivering vocals that generally are better than the originals... now that's Talent!!! In other words, the original is very produced studio recording with all the mixing, auto tuning and whatever else...this 12 year old is sitting at home with just a Mic and guitar, reading lyrics as she sings and delivering even more.... I actually like her version of Stay more that the original version. The last 2 runs are some of the most beautiful runs i have heard ❤️ Along with the run she does in her cover of Adele's All I Ask ❤️ And she is 12 years old there... mindblowing 😳
