Double Stops For 1-4-5 In A Major For Guitar - Country Style

Here’s some ideas on how to use the same ideas and shapes over all three chords in a 1-4-5 progression. It works great and creates a “theme” so to speak. A great way to map it all out even more. My mothers world famous Feta dip recipe is at the end!
PS- Sorry about the tiny audio glitch around 0.11 seconds in. Not sure what happened there.
Thanks a whole lot!

Thank you so much. For years I've practiced all of the fundamentals and just couldn't put them all together seamlessly. Your videos help me do that. I've learned the chords, learned that arpeggios, learned the scales, learned the triads, learned CAGED etc. Your videos are helping me put them all together. You are correct by not showing the detailed fingerings. People should learn the fundamentals then come check out these videos. If they need you to show the fingerings that's because they haven't put the time in. Thanks for keeping it at a level that shows how you think and how to stitch it all together. If you were to break it down even further you would just be wasting a lot of people's time. Thank you so much for not doing that and in fact doing the exact opposite and really focusing my time. If it's something unusual, I'm thinking Uncle Larry type chords here, then of course show the fingerings. I think you're striking a perfect balance. Love your videos keep it up!

I’ll tell ya, if people are complaining you don’t zoom in or tell them exactly what note/fret you’re playing every second they need to go back in time a little and remember what learning this stuff was like before RU-vid and the internet. We as the players need to put some work in! When I was first learning I used to record tv performances on VHS and have my face pressed against the old tube tv trying to figure out what guys were doing, what you’re showing us here is amazing and priceless FOR FREE! Thanks so much for your time and effort it’s greatly appreciated and inspiring to watch

These are top notch lessons, for FREE. Just listening to you play is a free lesson for any guitarist. I have learned so much from you. I'm 61 yrs old and am a sideman/guitarist in a few local bands. I have been playing since I was 12. The extra skills I am learning from you has been noticed by my peers. And has gotten me more gigs, requests to sit in, and studio work. You are never too old to learn more and see a different view of things that might open up a world of playing. These videos help so much when you sit in with a band and have to come up with a solo on the fly. I have used the CAGED system for years but I am really seeing the neck better than ever and rarely get lost, so much thanks to you. My advice, for what it is worth, to any of those having trouble or not getting things as fast as they want is to maybe listen and watch the video a couple times without playing. Absorb how G holds the guitar and how his hands are relaxed and efficient. Perhaps then before tackling the specific parts you want to learn and integrate, try to play the backing chords as he is playing to see how it relates to the music he is creating. You be the backup, and learn where he is going, trial by fire if you will. Mind timing, bending in tune, melody and chord structure rather than following the "Tablature" approach to which we all might rely on too much.

@bertpainter8385 2 года назад
You make the average guitar player and even more advanced have to take the time to use the brain to break things down into more details. That helps each player to find their own style doing the work. We each have a different approach to how we do everything. I just stop the video and play back the things that are new to me or that I've not worked on enough. Been at this on and off for 50 years. At some points in time when time allows and I get inspired by someones playing I dive in and start really practicing again. The fingers don't take long to get back to where I may have been. It's the brain that needs the repetitions again. I just started watching your videos from catching you with Brett Papa the other day and your playing is so melodic. I've never had a problem with playing melodically and simply by ear. It was trying to have my brain keep pace with my playing ability. Breaking down your videos I've watched the past few nights have got me back hopefully in a consistent way and practice mode. Will be diving in more each day. Hopefully life and work doesn't pull me away too much. Was waiting until I retired to really get serious again, but maybe this will be the jump start I need.

I'm a long time basic chord strummer, and at first I thought this was all hopelessly beyond me. But watching you play in the vids is just so enjoyable I've kept watching, and I think my brain has gradually started to grasp how I can build lead licks off the basic chord shapes I've always known, if I get comfortable using them up the full length of the neck. I'm sure it's all obvious to advanced players, but to me it's a nice, if gradual, learning breakthrough on an instrument I've been messing with for 50 years. You've got a great way of putting it together. Thanks.

Thanks for another great lesson GT! As many others have stated, your teaching style and difficulty level is so perfect for where im needing to go as a player. I think your lessons are geared towards those who are already good players and know the theory and fundamentals of music and guitar, but may just need some solid concepts to break through playing plateaus and play more comfortably outside of the routine pentatonic phrases. Please don't dare "dumb down" anything you teach. There are plenty of (too many) guitar teachers on youtube already who just teach licks and show note for note with tabs. This teaches nothing but memorizing specific licks. Your teaching is refreshing and unlocks everything, and is exactly what I and your other loyal followers are looking for. Thanks again for everything and please keep doing what you do! I'm hoping to make a trip from Memphis very soon to catch a live trio show!

I love the way you demonstrate the importance of recognizing the chords first. I am "usually" playing metal, or hard rock, but my first love was always country. You demonstrate things in a way no rocker ever has, and watching them is like starting learning with a book that has the first couple of chapters torn out. You put those chapters back in, giving that solid foundation needed to truly understand the basics. Everybody should learn to walk before we learn to dance, and you bring these important steps into the main limelight, which is EXACTLY where they should be !!!! I love your channel, and I am a regular follower. Thank you so much !!!

Thanks Guthrie. We don't need different camera angles. We can see where your hands are, we can HEAR what you're playing. Only reason I put tab on my channel is that because of the strokes I had, as I work out riffs and solos, they help me remember what I'm doing. My short term memory was affected so I have trouble making new memories. But I learned everything I have there by ear. Most of the stuff was from people I never saw play live. So you're doing us a huge favor because we don't have to work out every single hand position from scratch, thank you!

Hi Guthrie, Fantastic Lesson as always, so very grateful for your contributions. I just wanted to say how much I love working through your Artist Works curriculum such incredibly rich and knowledgeable content. My guitar playing has improved considerably and I gotta say I feel so much more freer and more confident when I pick up the guitar these days than I did 3 years ago before coming across your content. I hadn’t played in our band for 6 months and then recently caught up for a jam and the boys were quite taken with the strides I had made. I hadn’t really realised until that jam how much improvement I had been making...all due to you, I mean I have been playing for over 30 years yet in the last 3 years improved considerably. Thanks man from me too you, and I know there’s a lotta other cats out there that are diggin’ your grooves. Keep up the great work, we’d all be walking the lost highway without you. Cheers Marty from Melbourne🇦🇺

If someone had said to me in my younger days that I would have such a blast practicing country licks then I wouldn't have believed them! Top notch stuff Guthrie, much appreciated!
