This works on the z1 Ally if you download the R5 7540u (740m) drivers!!! Cyberpunk 720p low/medium native runs 60-90fps! Destiny 2 runs 720p @ 75-120fps Jedi: fallen order ran 55-100fps at 720p medium w/epic draw distance. I am loving this performance!!!!!! Thanks for this amazing video.
Hi ETA, the metric "Frame Gen Lag" is not very descriptive and brings the video into question: we don't know if it represents total latency or the latency added specifically by frame generation. Please clarify this as the disadvantages of frame generation (DLSS or FSR) are amplified with lower powered GPUs.
@@chuyh01 "Google is free" = "ETA's video might be useless to APU users if he can't explain or doesn't understand the metric himself" That's the point of my comment.
The whole “Do not use armoury crate overlay” is a deal breaker for me personally. Whenever Asus implements FSR 3 to the ROG Ally officially, I’ll definitely try it out. 👍
Thanks for this! I couldn't get it to work but I had armory crate open. FF7 Remake at 15 TDP running 45-100 fps. With VRR it's smooth. Super happy. Lag doesn't affect play this game but getting up to 50 m/s
Great stuff ETA! I'm playing Infinite Wealth at well over 90fps (outdoors) and hitting over 120+ FPS (indoors) on Medium settings. The Ally comes in handy for side content, dungeons and such.
In Spiderman as You showed You can see that AFMF does not work when moving camera. IMO Lossless Scaling is a much better option - less issues, works when with camera movement, can be used with almost everything including RU-vid videos.
Personally I loved this driver update. I played through Arkham knight on 1080p high textures and filtering at 70-90fps. It’s crazy and a complete game changer for some games
After trying it on my ROG Ally, it's not perfect BUT it does work very well and it does provide 20% to 50% frame improvements depending on the game and TDP. The Frame Lag isn't that bad, but again, your mileage may vary.
The thing with a handheld is that a little more input lag is not the worst because the thing has little to no input lag in first place. Having peripherals and a monitor externally connected always adds natural input lag which is essentially not existent on a hanheld All im saying is that any handheld is perfect for frame gen because it combats it's only downside (input lag) atleast to a noticeable extent.
Asus Rog Ally, AyaNeo Slide, Onexplayer mini pro 7, Lenovo Legion Go and Steam Deck Oled are The 5 Best Handheld Gaming Pcs in my opinion. I would love to buy and a try Asus Rog Ally Z1 Extreme or Onexplayer mini pro 7 what are that costs I can buy Asus Rog Ally as a 584€ and Onexplayer mini pro 7 as a 587€. I love handheld gaming pcs. Happy Easter everyone! 😊❤
Question: How do you get past the handhelds with Portrait displays; like the AOKZoe A1 Pro or the Legion Go? They seems to not work with AFMF because the display shows Landscape (flipped) I've heard some may have solved it but I haven't seen any proper tutorial
@@LVNeptune unless maybe you side load drivers. The legion go does not support afmf because the LCD is native portrait. That's why Lenovo is taking so long to update the drivers on their end.
What's the difference between AMD fluid motion and FSR 3 frame generation? Is it the same tech just a driver toggle to allow it in games that haven't added it in?
@@brianpicou9615 thx just got one last week so I’m learning got some emulation working (Can’t get ps2 to work yet) And it’s got a bad pixel and won’t turn on from sleep mode I’m thinking of returning it to GameStop 🤦
The best option right now is the lossless scaling, I also tried the mod from lukefz (paid mod) and I can’t make it work on dragons dogma 2. Lossless scaling works just fine in all the games I tried
I sure do hate fake frames. They'll never convince me that my frame rate has actually increased when all they're doing is making shit up. Improve the hardware and you get more frames. turn the settings down and you get more frames.
Thank you so much for your guide. It's crazy how. When a windows update can mess anything up from either side and thank you again for the video and helping out our community
so i decide to try it and in this steps 7:40 i cant enabled it says "performance metric setup failed" "In order to enable tracking of all performance metrics, acceptances to User Access Control (UAC) changes are required. Changes to metrics will apply after a reboot."
Hi there, I just want to point out because of the current state of afmf not working on any handheld with a portrait screen the tittle is innacurate. it only works with the ally at the moment just so save all these other lads some time out there, I doubt there will be a title change specially if the intent was fully aware but click magnetising anyways.
Tried to install the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition on the Legion Go, it's a no Go due to "error 182". But I did manage to updated the driver and installed the little Adrenalin package.
Just spend $6 to get lossless scaling problem solved. Its very easy to use and works with emulator. A 30fps stable is all u need to let them bump it to 60. So now its possible to enjoy elden ring at 20w for constant 60fps.
there are lukefz fsr3 mods - doubling from 37 gives nice 70fps, work way better than afmf and it works in dynamic mode - the game lowers resolution to achieve needed fps.
Does this work with Legion go's native portrait screen ? I read many posts and it does not work for legion go. Then this title might be misleading for those who owns Legion go
On an Ayaneo which also have portrait display it only works when there are no overlay at all. Even using AMD overlay will disable it. Also the AMD overlay will render as of the display was rotated so it is quite annoying to use (this was on the February AMD driver not the newest one from March). How to tell if AFMF is working w/o any overlay you ask? Well, it does look smoother and you can see some visual artifacts due to the Interpolated frames. I used it with Starfield before FSR3 was released for that game. Needless to say FSR3 is clearly superior.
Hey you stole my joke! I commented about my voodoo 3 3D FX card on this channel last week 😊 and some Indian guy replied with a super technical analysis of why what I asked was impossible 😆
Such technologies are hopefully only going to add value to the experience as they become perfected and are often scoffed at by most reviewers. Looking at the Spider-Man demo though, the advance was quite minor. The other vital aspect not mentioned of course is that you also need a monitor with the appropriate refresh rate to take advantage of anything over 60fps, which is often neglected in reviews. I would also like to have some real world stats with regards to exactly what latency can be expected when playing online competitive games (I'm glad that Esports wasn't mentioned as you cant call anything done whilst sitting on your fat backside on a sofa anything close to a sport).
agreed, well what I'd want to do is crank the graphics as much as i can and then use framegen to gain some fps back if they are too low dropping below 30
I have a minisfoum hx99g and it did not play well with fmf on my Sony x85k it was super stuttery and tearing, but once I connected it to a monitor it started working just fine. It was so bad I was seriously considering returning my hx99g, I’m still not happy about the io on the hx99g, what they don’t tell you is the usb4 ports on the back only connect to the igpu, if they connected with the dgpu there would be no need for fmf and I wouldn’t even bother with it. In the end fmf is what keeps me from returning my hx99g.
For legion go owners, this won’t work as the screen is native portrait. They’re looking into it but no guarantee that it will come in the future. So for higher fps, for the moment, I just recommend using lossless scaling
@@donniedarko4497 I’m not sure actually. I had the steam deck first and then more recently the legion go, and I’ve only heard of and got lossless scaling since I got the legion go. Considering the way you have to get it to run, I’d imagine you wouldn’t be able to do it natively on the steam deck unless you have windows
I don’t understand if this is the case then why would asus not make this a default thing? There has to be a reason why, maybe to sell people the next gen one and claim better performance?
I have to be honest, I'm testing this AFMF thing and it just feels the same to me (but consumes more resources) =x Maybe it will be great, but right now it feels rushed, imo.
As far as I can tell this does NOT WORK ON LEGION GO. Following the install everything works and I get the fluid frame option enabled in games, but trying to play anything the amd overlay goes sideways because its a portrait display and FRAME GEN LAG always show N/A. Hopefully this gets working soon
Hey ETA Prime. Thanks again for another fantastic ROG Ally video. I was wondering if you could help me? I cannot get this to work with minecraft? I was hoping I would be able to use fluid motion frames to boost my FPS in minecraft while using a texture pack.
I don't like AFMF at all... It's basically the same tech that TVs use, just at a much lower latency... I never have been able to stand the massive amounts of weird artifacts and visual glitches introduced, and the inconstant frame rate (when it cant interpolate movement in the frames, it just stops working, causing an inconstant expierience), there's just so many motions in frames that are impossible to interpolate without motion data... Apparently alot of people dont notice any of these things, so I guess you should set it on in that case. But this is not the same as frame generation for FSR 3 or DLSS 3. Those get access to motion data inside the game engine and apply before any of the post processing or hud elemments. they generate frames far more intelligently
PSA...AMD's Frame Generation is only intended for games running at a minimum 60fps to begin with. Anything less than that can result in poor, glitchy image quality and lots of additional latency. ..it's not a magic bullet solution like the click bait title of this video suggests,
AFMF and FSR3 are separate technologies. FSR3 FG works as well as DLSS3 FG does, confirmed by multiple sources. It's the upscaling itself that's lacking compared to DLSS. Hopefully 3.1 is gonna improve that point as well.
@@AtomicTreeDude Most ETA PRIME videos made recently just feel like promotion. Only positives, almost no negatives and a lot of questions not answered. It's really damn sad
I'm wondering for the devices that have 60hz screens if it'll help it keep a steady 60fps without adding too much latency due to less frames needing to be inserted.
Not sure about this app, but using frame generation using the Lossless Scaling app, if your frames exceed half the refresh rate, it actually makes it look worse, like choppy frames.
Does not work in Ryzen 6800u devices, tested in AokZoe A1, GPD winmax2 and Onexplayer mini pro 6800u. The AMD fluid motion Frames setting does not show up even after clean driver install
This tech is useless, especially in games where you only make 30 to 40fps natively...it adds input lag, the point of making high fps in games is actually to lower input lag, this is the opposite. no point on having a counter that double your real FPS when the feeling you get playing it is actually worse
Hey there bro thanks for the guide . So i have a question , i just finished installing this and somehow i got an update option from armor create to update the amd radeon graphic driver ? So should i just ignore this one ? You mentioned earlier about not using armoury create overlay ? The overlay you said was it the real time monitor on command center or what ? Can we still update all on armoury create like usual ? Sorry for the dumb question because i’ve never played on pc before and i just got my ally for a few weeks now 🙏🙏 Thank you in advance for responding 🙏 If you can elaborate more details or tips on what i shouldn’t do to maximize the fluid motion that would be so much appreciated
Tried your method just now with my Legion Go. Everytime I launch a game (Ive tried dishonored, fallen order, rpcs3), the overlay flips into portrait mode, and looks distorted too. I also made all my games Fullscreen and VSYNC OFF, still N/A on Fluid Motion, and even says in the dashboard (alt+r) that "Fluid Motion is inactive. Please use Direct X 11 or 12 api" 🤔🤔
