Honestly, the ten count then the quick 1-2 worked wonders. I went from having the rope crash into my feet (bad timing) to now being able to do a double-under. One practice session with that tidbit of information. This and the criss-cross tutorial and I've gone from basic bounce with a little bit of boxer thrown in to now doing criss-cross, side swings, and a double-under here and there. Plus, did it with the half-pound--I guess this means it's time to get a heavier rope!

So I watched this tutorial and went to practice. Guess what? I can now do double under jump rope. It's the small things :)

Practice, practice, practice! I LOVE my cross ropes. I have the Performance set plus a couple of extra ropes and handles. I can now successfully complete your double under ladder routine ( 10 singles, 1 double under, 10 singles, 2 double under, all the way to 10singles, 10 double under and back down the ladder ) with my 4 oz rope. It is my favourite quick cardio fix. These ropes are unrivalled anywhere. Can't believe they are not in Canada!

Hi Dave, just received my ropes today 1/4 & 1/2 pound done 1000 skips using both and must say the 1/2 was a real good workout … I actually manage to purchase them through Amazon … looking forward to trying and hopefully mastering boxer step etc … great video great ropes was just a bit apprehensive with the length as I’m 5ft 11 guess I could tie a knot in the 1/4 but not the 1/2lb … thanks again 🇬🇧

There are a few awesome jump rope channels on youtube, but I always find your tutorials to be the most helpful for me in terms of seeing results. I was seriously banging out double unders consistently soon after putting this tutorial to practice, having been very inconsistent prior to that. Hats off to you Dave! You're the man.

How I learned to do my first double under was that I slowed down the rope (like you said), thought about the rhythm of two unders fitting into the same space (also like you said) (I'm also a musician, so this rhythm part came naturally!), and then timed the first under to be extremely early and just cranked out another immediately afterwards. I was able to do it with the Energy rope the day I opened it, too! But even with a light rope, my jumping form still needs improvement. I'm not landing with control and finesse like with a no-rope power jump, and I usually need one or two regular bounds afterward to regain my balance and prepare for the next power jump. But it's coming along! I can also do a regular+cross double under, but the landing likewise takes some recovery. Loving my Plus Set!!!!!!

+Melinda Robbins Wow! Thanks for the feedback. Yes - I've used the 'counting out loud' drill, simple as it may seem with many who have had that first double under 'click' for them. Let me know how these drills worked out for you! -Dave

I have been jumping rope for about two and a half years as an adult (loved skipping as a kid but stopped) I can string sixty cross jumps together, skip for 10-20 minutes a session, but I can only manage one double under. I will apply these common sense tips and hopefully with practice my DU's will improve.

Thanks a lot for this. I've been trying to do more double unders lately and I've been mixing it with Tabata because I'm short on time when I work out. I just trip so much but this helps thanks again.

I've been wanting a new rope for awhile, I wore mine out pretty bad. I don't know what weight it was, but its the blue rope. I'm thinking of getting one thats a little heavier, and one meant for a lot of speed. I have the 2 lb one right now and its super tiring. I want to be able to get use to that rope like its light.
@davehunt9639
@davehunt9639 8 лет назад
+Andy Tu Hey thanks for the note! The blue rope was 5 Oz or about 1/3rd Lb. I'd recommend either the 1/2 Energy (indoor/Outdoor) or 3/4 Lb Explode (indoor only but fast) Yeah the 2 Lb is tough! Keep me posted once you get your new rope.

Thanks for your tutorial, but i need your help. I can do double unders flawlessly, however when i want to go back to simple jumps, the rope goes on going so fast, could you give me advice , please?
@Jump15official
@Jump15official 4 года назад
work on your tempo control. With singles practice speeding up to max speed and then slowing back down. Then try going from slow, immediately to fast and back. This will help you gain more rope control.

Hi Dave. I've been jumping rope for over a year now and I can't nail double unders. I not able to whip the rope around fast enough for 2 turns when it comes to executing the double. Any tips on how to proceed? Thanks.
@Crossrope
@Crossrope 7 лет назад
You really have to focus on the single under rotation drills. It's true that if you cannot rotate the rope fast enough, you won't be able to get doubles. But the best way to practice rotational speed is to accelerate using a skill like the alternate foot step until you get to a rotational speed fast enough for doubles.
@TheMerryPup

That makes sense. OK, I'm on it. Thanks for the reply!

Do we need light weight rope or rope with weights for double under jump rope?

You can use whichever rope you wish. For training for double unders, heavier ropes are better.

Explained well however talking is too much. I need visual application but it only takes few seconds. We can easily check Google for details but on RU-vid we need to see how it works. Maybe lessen your talking, so that we won't be cutting your videos on the part that you're doing it.
