Chasing a car like that down the highway will get you shot in alot of places these days. They could have been car jackers for all Doug knew at the time.
I had similar thoughts when I was driving my friends newer Gallardo back in the days. It was at night, on the highway and we were cruising around 70mph. Suddenly a blacked out crown vic started to tailgate us - original thought was that maybe those are cops, but no lights went on. I slowed down to 50mph and stuck in right lane - after a mile they passed and I took very next exit - wasn't cops for sure.
Doug isn’t “wrong” here. But the people chasing him should know better. Clearly it wasn’t a safe predicament for anyone. But don’t chase or follow anyone. These trolls are just trying to make a thing and they did.
Doug wasn't being reckless. Trust me, the last person in the universe that wants to damage that Carrera GT is Doug himself. Any major work done on the car would tank its multi-million dollar value
@Daniel_Capital smartest thing he could do would be stay in the same lane and travel normally. The other cars prob thought he was trying to cut up in traffic with them. If he would not switch lanes they’d prob just go past at some point
He did what he did in the moment. Perfectly normal and totally understood. Just like someone would do if someone broke into your home. You do what you have to in that moment. Too many people go back and recap when they weren't in the same shoes.
Not at all the same thing lmfao. Someone driving close to you on a highway isn’t the same as someone breaking into your home. Weaving through traffic to escape isn’t a similar response to defending yourself from home intruders. Pretty dumb take.
How in the heck is Doug in the wrong here? He wasn’t just driving like that cuz he drives like that, he was forced to drive like that because he was literally being chased. How was he supposed to know who they were???
No one forced him....being a famous RU-vidr comes with a price he just made a bad decision....if they were really chasing him then he could have pulled over to see if they pull over also and see what the problem is instead of driving like a mad man....
@Hunter i drive a buggati and mclaren and doug is not 100% in the wrong, people tailgate me all the time and when i “slow down” to let them pass they get angry and start road raging.
@@cj41079😂😂what if they were someone just wanting the car you people really have to think about it reasonably *pulls over to see what their following for proceeds to Get held at gun point pockets gone thru an car taken 🤔seriously think about how crazy some people are🤷🏽♂️
@coreysprings5892 yeah thats exactly how they steal exotic cars that can do 200mph, chase it down and hope that you catch up....they go after it when it's parked....smh
I am too. But realistically, a public figure, cruising around in a million dollar car with the top down is going to have a target on their back. It’s like chumming the waters and then being pissed when sharks show up.
Its not just that he’s got a nice car. Hes also a very well known youtuber. Look at the stradman. How many times has he had random people vandalize his cars or come onto his property and chill or follow him home. Nowadays when you cant even go to a freaking high school graduation without someone getting shot and killed i dont blame him for wanting to be rid of those pesky people.
This is funny because if anyone has actually read the first article about him in Motor Trend back in 2009, this is exactly what he did, the editor is riding along as Doug is “carspotting”. Here is a direct quote from the article and just 1 example of this behavior coming from Doug… “DeMuro hears the signature snarl of a V12 engine and sees a blue Lamborghini cruising past on the far side of the street. “Murcielago!” he shouts, and we sprint back to his car. Furiously working his Tiptronic transmission, DeMuro peels out of the parking lot, hurtles the wrong way up a left turn lane and cranks off another illegal U-turn. Two minutes of brisk driving puts him in position for photos of the back of the Murcielago. But the money shot is the side view, but each time DeMuro starts to pull even with the Lambo, we hear it’s exhaust crackle and see it’s rear end squat hard under acceleration.” Hmmm, seems like a pretty identical scenario to what he seems to be damning now…🤔
It's not hypocritical if you ask people not to do something, which you did when you were younger. As you get older you start to realise some of the things you did was wrong, and if you're in an influential position like Doug, then what's wrong with telling people not to do it? If it's always hypocritical... that mean no one ever learns from their mistakes, and we would still be stuck in the dark ages.
@@SeeScottWrite Still nice for people to get some payback. If he did that kind of stuff when he was "younger" then I don't feel bad for him at all. Not even a little bit.
@@overbuiltlimited getting payback is nice? That’s such a foolish/primal way to think. Most people grow out of that child-like revenge mentality. Haven’t you ever heard the phrase “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.”?
That happens everywhere with people that has cool cars. If you're moving many want to keep up or try to race you. Not saying switching lanes is safe, but hounding folks isn't safe either. Leave some folks alone.
Facts, I did this last night with an RSX. But when they start getting crazy I back off. But I normally keep 4 or 5 car spaces because I don't know their habits.
I own a Z and I feel this. The amount of people who tried to race me in their cars with a mere 170 horsepower is ridiculous. Like stop, I’m just trying to cruise, get to my destination, or go home. Lol.
This happens EVERY TIME I drive my R35 GTR. Every kid in a civic or their moms Acura MDX tries to race me and they even run red lights to catch up. Sometimes they won't leave me alone until they see me "get on it". I'm sure it's 10x worse while driving a super car.
@@yungrichnbroke5199You buy the car why cant you drive it where you want to. Its just sad people do crazy stuff just to see a car. You can always go to a dealership if you want to see the same car that bad.

@@lukereyes6266 yea but putting all the other drivers on the highways lives at risk and driving like a maniac. He should have slowed down and pulled over.
Yeah but immagine you were getting chased in no sence is this exuseble action but doug is more in the right than this bmw following tailgating people weather or not doug demuro orca normal person so the tesla and bmw are at least 70% at falt here
Whenever I see you cruising through Colorado Springs, I just wave and yell “Life of palos!!!!” And keep it moving. Then again, I drive a Volt and couldn’t keep up anyway lol
Yes, yes it would’ve. They only started chasing him once he tried to get away from them. Just like how a dog will chase you once you start running. The bmw and Tesla probably thought he wanted to have some fun at first zigging and zagging between lanes
Did you watch the video or are you daft? They were following him closely which triggered Doug’s flight or fight response to flee from them. Doug didn’t know who those people were. For all he knew, they could’ve tried to attack him one way or another. At the end of the day, don’t follow people closely and if you see a nice car. Just admire it from a safe distance like he said.
@@Iridiumcosmos "Triggered Doug's flight or fight response"..... lol.... Your joking right? For all I know Doug was having some fun with the guy. If Doug felt so threatened he could have called the CHP. If he wanted to be left alone he could have chilled in the right lane while driving the speed limit.... the other guy would have no option but to sit behind him and do the speed limit as well. "Fight or flight"... lol.... Silly
@Hunter-xh7jw“nobody was chasing him until he raced away.” You yourself said people will weave in and out of lanes to get to you, so you don’t know that. They were the ones chasing - which makes them in the wrong from the start. People tailgate all the time - and 100% of them are wrong. You don’t know they will pass you, especially if you’re a famous RU-vidr. I don’t think his driving was particularly unsafe - the video is sped up. But he shouldn’t feel pressured to get away from idiots, and he shouldn’t feel compelled to be followed by people like you.
Worst case scenario, they could ram you or match your speed and shoot at your car, making it easier for them to hit you. Yes shootings can and have happened on the expressway depending on where you live.
Torn on this. Id go faster. Then id not worry about anyone. I know i can drive. Tell me if you havent seen a Toyota corrola running 90 plus in traffic. Doug had restraint.
The ppl on Tik-Tok are trying to validate what they do to ppl who own supercars and telling them to put up with it. The irony is if someone did the same to them they would be upset even though they believe everyone they do it to should just suck it up and put up with their BS.
In the Doug situation, I see all drivers being in the wrong. I like Doug and I understand where he’s coming from but I didn’t see any safe driving here.
Probably should drive like a grandma but I agreed given one can get shot in LA or SD when he is driving with the top off exposing him to possible danger if he slows down or stop. You don't know what are the intentions of these morons.
yay our boy Aaron is back let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! btw hopefully you can hold on to your R8 Aaron for a long period of time because after the 2023 model year unfortunately Audi will no longer sell it at there dealerships and getting rid of it from there US/North America website/vehicle lineup and mentioning it in any way shape or form period
Yeah Doug took the wrong approach trying to speed away. Obviously they'll just want to chase. As you said, driving like a grandma is the key has always worked for me.
no its not always key, you cant assume these people were harmless, or intentionally malicious, there is insurance scammers out there that try to wreck your car and claim it was your fault so that you have to pay out, theres also carjackers that will theif your car broad daylight, speed in a powerful car is everything. thats why i run high horsepower cars, once those fuckers that tail me see how quickly i can drop a gear and disappear, they immediately back off, like oh shit, homie too fast. i dont tolerate people following me and its happened several times before. speed is safe given you know how to handle your vehicle properly. Doug is in the right, he did what he had to do. just like a home owner does when there is a break in. they do what they must
Yea I like to race myself but if you see a dude chillin in his sports car leave him alone. If they want to race with you they will just pass and keep it moving and they’ll follow you if you want I think the people following thought Doug was cutting up and wanted them to join😂
I drive a Honda S2000. It’s not a supercar, but it does grab some attention. I’ll just move over to right and drive slow or slower. They’ll either wave or honk and go about their way. It works all the time.
You never know they could've been trying to rob him following him to his house, but its never good to swere in and out of traffic though but these days people are legit fanatics not fans
I thought that too, maybe not even trying to rob him but driving like a dangerous lunatic that is clearly not going to leave him alone in any situation. Then you have only one option and Doug seems a level headed experienced enough driver to make the right call here.
@@black_rabbit7445 well when you cant even watch your kid graduate without worrying about someone shooting everything up who the hell wants to take those chances of someone “maybe not” being dangerous
@@TrVlogs82 It happens in Belgium but extremely rare, like winning lottery rare. The dangerous driving of these people is enough to try to escape in my opinion.
I sympathise with Doug here. I was once chased by someone in a 3 series BMW on the autobahn when I was in my daily driver on a long journey. I changed lanes, he changed lanes, I sped up, he sped up, I slowed down, he slowed down, I changed onto another autobahn, he did as well. I made him overtake, he made me overtake. I changed autobahns again, he did as well. It definitelly made me feel uncomfortable. The closer I got to my home, the more I considered to call the police. It would have felt kind of stupid though. I mean, he didn't do any harm, he just drove behind me. The main reason I didn't call the police was because I knew that the last 130 km of my journey would be on an unrestricted autobahn where I knew would be hardly any traffic and I already figuered that he had the slower car. So I continued driving normally until I hit the unrestricted bit and sped off. I guess it was just someone who either had kind of the same destination and made a "funny" game out of it, or he just happend to be a fan of my (unspectacular but close to 30 years old and quite rare) daily driver.
There's no excuse to continue to follow a car, obviously trying to get away from you. At that point you don't know who is chasing you and don't think Doug did anything wrong.
The thing is that its hard to tell if the driver is showing off and having fun or trying to get rid of you. The best thing he could have done is to slow down and try to tell the people to back off. I'm not saying he is in the wrong its just it could have been handled differently.
@@surgestar did you read my comment? Also, not in the tailgaters defence but if they weren’t paying attention they would’ve crashed. They were just being assholes and all parties were driving recklessly, I merely stated that the DDE Mac got hit due to the kid speeding AND not paying attention. Always check your surroundings
I agree with Doug, if dumb drivers stopped trying to play Cat and Mouse with other cars on the highway, there would be no problem, but instead they create dangerous situations for everyone involved.
Doug is not in the wrong, if 2 wrotters came up on me like that I would not feel safe especially with all the shootouts etc going on. All I can say is, Wrotter Nr 1 (Bmw) and Stinker Nr 2 (Tesla) is the main reason Doug did this... To get away... I would not feel safe if i am out for a drive in my 488 and all of a sudden 2 cars come up on my behind driving as if they are mentally ill especially in heavy traffic. Like Doug said, take a video or pictures and move on. We can all argue this topic but in the heat of the moment you react without thinking. For heaven sakes stop trying to race supercars on public roads, go to your nearest raceway and prove a point there. I stand with Doug here. It is annoying as hell if you drive your supercars and every second stinker wants to race you. If that was my kid in the bmw or tesla I would beat the hell out of them as they are the nuts who put fuel to the fire. Point
So dougs response to people who want to race him because hes in a carrera GT is to......Drive fast and weave through traffic in an attempt to do so faster than the other guy??? Aka race them? And then claim how dangerous it is??
Doug demuro was in the right. The car chaser never even tried to back off and the car chasers themselves are also cutting and weaving through traffic while tailing him very close to his bumper. Even though he slowed down or stopped, they still pursued him and didn’t pass.
usually what triggers people to start racing you on highways are if you yourself is going over the speedlimit or doing pulls and driving actively. Then if someone picks up the chase- the worst thing to do is to start reacting and try to get away, always ends with nothing but stupidity. Best thing in my experience is to set the cruise control (if there is one) at the speedlimit, or alittle lower and just stay at a constant speed. if someone start to tailgate, just take 8-10 mph off the speed and they will pass very soon, if not, take even more off. this is my go to and works 99% of the time, even when driving exotic cars.
Yep that's kind of the only way buts its exhausting too. I've gone down from 100kmh to 70kmh on the freeway, but damn the tailgaters looove sitting behind cars rather than take the open overtaking lane and pass. This also happens in just a random shit car let alone when driving a sports car.
I don't see why Doug couldn't have just stuck in the right lane and wave them around him right off the hop instead of waiting till after all that happened...
He absolutely did do something wrong. He put other people at risk and in danger and his excuse is "safety" ?? "It's dangerous people were following me too close so I decided to race and weave through traffic" 😂
@@BananerRepublic I've ridden motorcycles for 22 years and while most of the time I'm a sedate and mild rider there have been a few times over the years when I was being harassed and had to call upon the acceleration and handling of my bike to quickly put the offender far back in my mirrors. That is nowhere near my normal mode of operation, but if someone caught me on camera during this 0.1% of the time I'm sure the video would go up and people would extrapolate that that's how I always ride and that I'm a menace to other motorists.
Sorry they would not be “chasing” Doug if he was not driving that way to begin with. Thinking Doug got caught here and is trying to protect himself by passing on responsibility.
Doug is completely correct! I am sure he gets this ALL the time, so the annoyance of it happening time and time again can build to be to much and frustrating.
Never respond to trolls, you will never win. Doug was in the right here, you have a right to flee especially when you don’t know what their intentions are.
I'm sorry but if I see someone is chasing me in my extremely exotic car I would do the same as most people would. I never know what kind of people may be chasing u. a fan of someone with had intentions.
I’ve been chased. I had to swerve away from an exit to separate those people from me, and more than one occasion. Imagine having someone riding your tail and not reacting to your speed changes properly; with your dream car at investment-values, I understand why Doug did that. I appreciate how he dove into gaps that the other cars couldn’t fit and went the speed of those cars to ensure there wasn’t a spot for the chasers to get too close. That car is designed for more intense driving than THAT, but the heavy Tesla with the no-geared-braking is actually scary.
Nah, you camp in the slow lane at the speed limit. Let them get their videos, pictures at a safe speed. Trying to get away just entices them to try and catch you. They'll eventually get bored doing the speed limit or slower, realize you don't want to play and ,"cut it up". And go about their day. But he didn't.....
I honestly think he did what he could. Why would you chase a car down. Doesn’t matter if it’s a nice car or whatever. You can just take a pic from your car and move on. People these days.
@Life of Palos: This is comedy Rhodium right here. If you guys actually only knew how to drive (Doug and you included). This video, and those comments made my month 🤣.
A supercar ripping trough traffic doesn't mean they're trying to get away from you. The Tesla is as fast as that old porsche and the driver has as much right as doug to drive as fast as he wants. Doug has no right to privacy or immunity from criticism.. He goes on about someone tailgating him while dangerously changing lanes a dozen times. LOL
If you're tailgating them on purpose and boxing them in, it does mean just that. You sound like you are trying to give yourself an excuse to do exactly what the drivers of the Tesla and Porsche were doing. "Oh, they were just ripping through traffic for no reason, I just happened to be filming and following them for 20m!!!" Such a sad person you must be.
