Doug Eddings Ejects Johnny Estrada, Bobby Cox, and Mike Hampton I was scrolling through closecallsports and found that user DD4D had a file to the ejection, so credit goes to them. Link to the comment: disq.us/p/10i0zyw year: 2005
@@TorontotootwoEddings is a pretentious, overweight, unprofessional chump with an ego that is only outdone by maybe Angel Hernandez. Just ask Davey Martinez.
The umpire knew he did something wrong. That's why he didn't get into it with Cox. If he gave Cox even the slightest reason to get in his face he would have.
I replied to a comment with the following, and, seeing as how so many have asked, here it is for everyone: I remember watching this game….Bobby took a LONG time leaving the dugout, and he and Eddings got into another HUGE screaming match - even Skip Caray said, “Bobby, you better go, pal, or they might suspend you.” While this was happening, Mike Hampton was (on the corner of the screen - from the dugout) clearly yelling at Eddings, too - and he got tossed as well.
What in the world caused that to happen. Obviously getting in an umpire's face and screaming "F*** you!" is going to get you kicked out every time. This seemed to escalate quickly, and out of nowhere. It was a borderline pitch that may have been off the plate (maybe it got a piece of the plate) it just seemed that all of a sudden the intensity went from 0 to 10.
Umpire was involved in something similar yesterday and has been involved in shit like this his whole career just say you not for the people 😂 ump is out of his mind
the infield fly guy was Sam Holbrock, but yeah, when people bring up terrible umps. they talk about Angel Hernandez and Joe West, but they often forget about guys like Doug Eddings and Bob Davidson
And he should have been given a medal. Eddings ALWAYS hated the Braves and would go well out of his way to be antagonistic towards us. He and Bill Hohn were public enemy one and two.
What did Eddings say to Estrada???? He said something. Then Estrada jumped in his face and said, "F You!!!" so Eddings said something. Batter did say "Don't let em show you up ump" Then Eddings, the Ump, said something.
Doug Eddings was just getting started back then on a career that turned out to be a laughing stock of bad calls, quick ejections and mountains of hot dogs consumed.
Does the batter say “don’t let him show you up Doug”? Then Eddings prob says something like “ya, I don’t give a shit what that punk does” And then it all breaks out. Make sense?
I think so, at first I wondered if it was Estrada saying I didn’t mean to show you up but then came to that conclusion. Makes sense, especially since it’s the opposing catch at bat.
It sounded like it came from a fan near a microphone. It was a weeknight and rain delayed Marlins game in the mid-2000's, so there wasn't much crowd there anyway.
bad umpires used to pick on the Braves all the time. everyone loved to hate them. that's what happens when you win 14 years straight. nobody else has EVER done that, in ANY sport.
Nothing wrong with how My Homeboy Johnny reacted you cant get racial with anyone and expect nothing The ump had it all coming Johnny has never been someone to disrespect hes an emotional and vocal BALLPLAYER /ALLSTAR !!!

From what I remember, it seems like there was a really long rain delay and this happened at like 1AM EST. I guess most of the crowd had left, and that's why you could hear so well. Crazy.
