Doug Kalitta powered to a Sunday-best run of 3.673-seconds at 334.98 mph in his 11,000-horsepower Mac Tools/Toyota dragster in the final round, driving past Pruett’s run of 3.720 at 326.16 to pick up his third win of the season. After six runner-up finishes in his 26-year career, Kalitta finished the job on Sunday to win a world title for the first time.

There was no other Top Fuel Driver more deserving than was Doug Kalitta, been on the wrong side of the battle so many times, and to finally end up the champion in Top Fuel, makes this moment all worthwhile, not just for him, but for us fans too. Congratulations Doug, cherish the moment.

Finally finally finally. So happy for Doug to finally get his championship. To also see the huge smile on Connie made me a little misty eyed. And somewhere up there, Scott is smiling a wide smile at what his cousin and Team Kalitta did today.

I blew out my voice when he won! Through trial and error, heartbreak and loss and through ever mountain and valley you could imagine, Doug Kalitta is FINALLY a world champion in the NHRA. Amazing moment, this is why we are racing fans. Congrats to Doug, Alan Johnson, Chad Head and Connie Kalitta!

As Steve Evans once told Connie Kalitta in the post race interview after he won his 1st US Nationals Championship in 1994 "Just keep trying 20-30 years, you'll finally win it"......The same can be said for Doug, Congrats on winning your 1st Top Fuel Championship! There was no one more deserving to hoist that trophy over their head than you Champ! You have paid your dues with heartbreak numerous times in the past 26 years and we can all finally say "Doug Kalitta is a Top Fuel World Champion! Congrats from South Texas!

Out of all of Doug's 2nd place points finishes, never will I forget the look of pure heartbreak on Doug's face after Tony Schumacher ran the 4.428 to take the 2006 Top Fuel title away just when it looked like he had it. And I went into this race as the biggest Kalitta fan I've ever been, wanting to see him FINALLY win that elusive first title after all these years to see him do it with ironically, the crew chief behind Schumacher's dominance, Alan Johnson, was simply incredible to watch! Congratulations on the title, Doug!! You deserve it! 🏆👍👍

I still remember that. Had he made the finals he would’ve been the champ and Schumacher may have never had that record cause I’m sure Alan Johnson would tune to win the event. But with Doug out Johnson tuned that army dragster to go for not just the event win but the national record in order to snatch it away. And man that look on Doug’s face when it happened. Just to be taken away. This time he was able to pull it off. Now if he wanted to retire now he can say he is champion.

Alan Johnson was part of that as he was a part of this one too. Awesome. Alan is the best fuel tuner out there and Doug is so deserving. It just doesn’t get any better.

Cannot be happier for Doug and Connie!!! They had some great shots at it before bumping heads with the Bernsteins, Larry Dixon, Schumacher, and some all-time great teams. Gonna be a nice offseason for Doug, knowing he finally got his. ❤👍🏆

the Kalitta family goes back in drag racing history with the Garlits, Prudhomme and Karamasines families. It is so great to see Doug win a Championship. its been a long time coming and well desedved. Congrats Kalitta air. 🏆

Doug is a Champion and Class Act. While he was supervising his crew getting his car ready for the biggest race of his career, he takes a moment to hang with the fans and sign autographs. That spoke volumes with this race fan. While the crowd was focused on Doug, I saw Connie hanging out on the other-side of the trailer pretty much all alone. I walked up to Connie and told him Doug is going to bring home The Championship Trophy today. The smile on Connie's face priceless!!! Congrats Team Kalitta...

I am that is the definition of epic!! The final round at the final race to determine the championship with two incredible teams and incredible drivers!!!!! I mean talk about a way to end the top fuel season, other than the tears utter pain in tears utter other joy.. Leah will get hers very soon, too!! 🤘🤘

Awesome climax to an awesome season, the two best cars still in it, winner take all, amazing runs by both cars with the crown going to the event winner at the last race!
