Jerry, another fabulous biography, you never fail to knock it out of the park! Doug was a friend of my family. My mother gave a big party consisting of the Hollywood set every month at our Tarzana ranchito in the early '60s, and Doug attended many of them. As a young teenage girl at the time, I thought he was the cat's meow! Looking forward to your next production! Cheers from the west coast ~Dany

Doug brought a relatable quality to every part he played. Whether it's on The Virginian as Trampas, Bowen Tyler in The Land That Time Forgot and The People That Time Forgot, his guest roles on Murder She Wrote, or his lone role in the 1990 Zorro series (a particular favorite of mine to this day), Doug McClure drew you into a place where good prevailed over evil. We need more Doug McClures in the world, especially in this uncertain day and age. And God bless Jerry for delivering another quality documentary.

Around 1974 my husband was an Air Traffic Controller at Napa Tower in Napa, California. Mr. McClure often flew his private jet into Napa, and would usually stumble off the plane very drunk. On occasion, he would attempt to fly out of Napa when he was drunk but the controllers would call FAA and have him grounded until he was sober. When he wasn't drunk, my husband said he was one of the nicest people he'd ever met.

Love this channel! Thank you for the back stories. In 1986 you could still meet someone at their gate in the airport. My best friend and I were in Dallas TX at DFW and went to meet his aunt to visit and walk with her to her connecting flight. Though not on her flight Doug was there in the walkway by her connection. She was the first of the three of us to recognize him. She approached and he seem thrilled to have a picture taken with her. And be chatting with the few people standing around. And must add he looked great.

The first season DVD's of "The VIrginian" has some good interviews with Roberta Shore, Gary Clarke, and James Drury (that's the metal-box set that first came out years ago). Interesting that Lee J Cobb didn't like working on the show. In Season 5 there is an episode with the plot of "The Black Stallion" where Trampas enters a horse race. Sara Lane and Charles BIckford are in that one. Sara Lane got the part of Elizabeth after taking a few acting lessons, and mostly left her acting behind after the show ended. Roberta Shore said her husband took her away from Hollywood when she got married, and for a while it was hard not having people pay attention to her like when she was in Hollywood. But she never missed being in show business and was most proud of raising a family.

Nice doc on Doug McClure and the others. I had not known that the opening battle scene in: Shenandoah, had been used twice before. I think parts of it were also used in the opening battle scene for: Undefeated as well as in: The Outlaw Josey Wales-which used battle scenes from: The Red Badge of Courage. One small correction if you allow? It's not Barnaby Coast, but Barbary Coast.

In the Book and the Movie versions of The Virginian, Trampas is a Villain who gets killed by the Virginian. I hate to admit it but I had not seen the movie versions until several years after I had seen the TV show and I knew Trampas to be a good natured if a little rowdy, cowboy. So I was a bit shocked to see an Evil Trampas.
