The new guy at IPS is having a barbecue but Doug can't figure out why he's not invited.

Deacon has never really been a good friend. He always stays out of Doug's business and doesn't stand by him while Doug has done some really great friendship services for Deacon (for example, Doug once lent him Carrie to help with Thanksgiving preparations, another time Doug started to play football again just to motivate Deacon’s son). As a good friend, Deacon could have at least addressed the fact that it's indeed very rude to invite the whole staff and exclude one person. Or he could have declined the invitation out of solidarity. But he never cares about Doug's problems.
