Okay first of all the reason why Doug,had an apartment in the first place. Because Carrie kept on kicking them out of the living rooms for her work even tho she an work office upstairs Arthur took over the basement in the whole season of the show basically this his man cave at least he did got rid of the apartment instead of Carrie

What blows my mind is that an apartment like that might have gone for about $500 per month back then. Or at least inexpensive enough for Doug to plausibly be able to afford it on his salary in addition to maintaining a detached house in Queens. By 2023 standards, it blows my mind that this could ever have been considered normal! RIP the housing market :(

Right, I understand he wasn’t actually paying anything. But let’s say Doug could pull off working four hours a night for three nights per week (any more than that and Carrie would surely have gotten suspicious)… that means Doug got an apartment all to himself for working approx. 48 hours per month. BACK THEN that seemed plausible. Fast forward 20ish years later to today, and people often have to work 48 hours or more PER WEEK to afford living with roommates. Yes, I know it’s “just a TV show” and what I’m saying is “just theory”. But if you released a show in 2023 where a man who works part time at a restaurant gets an apartment for $0.00 in rent in NYC, nobody would take it seriously because that would be mathematically impossible by today’s standards.

Ha! I had an apartment like this once. The damn bathroom was legit right there off the living room. When I had people over we would congregate in the kitchenette/dining room area, so if someone had to go, at least they had some privacy. lol.

I had a girlfriend like this 🤣🤣 She lived with her sister and parents in 1 city. Had her own room etc.. I found out 2 years later, she has this apartment with these other people in another city! I was like "What TF? Who are these people?" She's all, "They're my friends!" They say, "Who are you?" I say, "I"m her Boyfriend who the fk are you?" 🤣 She literally had a double life!! Then she did it again in another city with an entire new group of people... 😊
