Warren is one of the best yet. Solo Acoustic, The Dead, Gov't Mule, Allmans next to Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes Band, anything he lends his talents to is amazing. I particularly like the Halloween and New Year's Eve shows where he covers other tunes. And he is a humble, gracious man, to boot.
I was blessed to see Warren in Austin a few years ago. I had no idea just how great the man could play. He’s up there with the best guitarists of all time.
I saw DMB a few times in the 90's and my only complaint, and it's a big one, is that Dave Matthews is notoriously OCD and wants everything to be played exactly right note for note through 95% of the songs. And he's damn good at it. He's an OCD perfectionist. This jam, however, reflects the side of DMB I've always wanted to see more of. I've always wanted him to take his foot off the gas and improvise a little more... and this song is it. This song is what happens when great musicians check their control issues and check their egos at the door and let the magical music play out. Well done.
Its truly a rare gift to watch such fantastic musicians get together on one stage and bring it together so effortlessly. They are precision warriors of music . Gives me chills to watch the pros do work. They dont miss a note. And with all the energy flowing to them from the audience it's very hard to concentrate in that moment. The energy raises so high at that moment that You are basically connected to the otherside of the veil where some amazing things happen to the musicians that even amaze them. Ask them about it. The pros all have some stories about things that have happened that flipped them out for a minute.. The creator is everywhere at all times pushing us to be even better than last song.
I met Warren Haynes in Ceaser's Parlor on Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC in 1976 where he frequently stopped by to jam whit the very talented locals. He's one of the finest gentlemen I have ever met and an outstanding musician. This is a true account.
What I love is during Warren's solo, pretty much everyone in the venue, on stage and in the audience is just riding the groove with Warren. Quiet, playing along, respecting the master at work.
At the Christmas jam a couple years ago. They did a full set of Neil young, Neil would have been proud. Warren is a great ambassador for rock and roll. Thank you Warren.
you know, a musician has to know that he's not only good, but REAL GOOD to cover one of Neil Youngs songs like this one and Warren, you are that musician....especially with such top of the line company with you on stage. as a Canadian i know Neil's music so well, and buddy, you knocked this one out of the park, and i know Neil would applaud you too.
I thought this was an Eric Buchanan song if not older... have no idea who wrote Hey Joe but seen a mid 30's prison chain gang clip of it being sung. It's all great music.

There is a Central Park Moment, my favorite, covering Cortez, During a Warren Solo, Dave looks at Carter with a huge smile and says, "He's Bad!" you can read his lips. It's Magical when Music does this to you.
@@matguerra333 I know exactly what look and "he's bad" you're talking about! I'm trying to learn his solo in that exact live version (he's also got some magic in the next song, Jimi Thing before Dave goes apeshit scat fired-up guy). If one day I can make 10% of that WH tone, I'll be happy.
Hard to imagine any artist being anything other than absolutely thrilled to hear Warren cover one of their songs. Unreal, incredibly soulful and badass guitar playing + singing voice. He nails just about any song I've heard him get in on---- in both respects.

around 1990 I lived in Asheville a friend talked me into going to see Warren, he said he was in The Allman Brothers. he said at Christmas he always came home to jam. We went and saw him at I think it was called the 21 Cherry Club. I was drunk as a skunk saw him thought he was great but never really knew whether to believe my friend or not. And about a month later there he was on Johnny Carson with the Allman Brothers. and since then I've just sat and watched his career Blossom, so cool! thanks for taking me Andy Jane
thanks man for turnin me on to roy and that's a damn fine solo he plays for sure don't think id ever listened to him or should say if I did I didn't know it hes amazing and again thanks for the post I usually don't read these things cause it so much arguing over whos better or not good enough those types aren't on here to listen just to give an opinion that they believe people give a shit about lol rock on warren and u to roy
