Her grin while playing says so much. This is the result of someone who is living their passion. The thing she's good at and makes a living at brings her joy. If only we could all realize this..go Patrice!

I came of age in the 1970's, which was the heyday of Jazz Fusion. I used to love Patrice Rushen back then. A few years ago I was playing a big outdoor festival in Akron, Ohio. That same night in Akron there was a theater show featuring Patrice Rushen and vibraphonist Roy Ayers, two musicians who literally created a significant part of the soundtrack for my teenage years. Unfortunately I couldn't see the show, because we were all on stage at exactly the same time. But it turns out that we were all being put up in the same hotel in downtown Akron. The next morning I bumped into Patrice Rushen in the lobby as we both were waiting for our transportation. Our all-too-brief conversation was cut short by the arrival of each of our respective rides. But I'm thankful for even the five minutes that life conspired to give me with her. And I'm thankful that I was able to meet her not only as a fan, but also as another musician out on the road working.

Patrice is nothing but a female version of herbie! Both super genius! Both Rhodes scholar, both use almost the same harmonics and soloing, Both use the fender Rhodes 88 1970s version, both of there music are structured almost the same and both are super piano players! For years I'v studied there solos and chords, and gotta say, they are my essential, go to and main influence, along with others but my foundation is patti and herbie! GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!

A wee tease of Settle For My Love on the Rhodes. Love the Rhodes, and Patrice was one of the masters at using it to exquisite effect. Settle is quiet storm.. A 1979 track, that set the mood for Anita Baker and co in the 80's.

We need to see more artists like Patrice in the music world.

She is the first woman musician to lead a major awards show...the American music awards back in the late 80's or early 90's, in might be still to this day..

YOU COULD TELL IN HER EARLY STUFF THAT SHE PATTERN HER MUSIC AFTER EARTH WIND AND FIRE !

Played one in a Seattle stage band. Loved it!! Now I have the sound on my workstation and the feel is the same, the love of the music created is the same. Won't mention the brand but you probably know it. Just much lighter to carry to gigs now. Met Patrice at USC back in '72 and once, a couple of us helped load her Fender into her station wagon after an on campus concert she gave. Such a cool sister girl. Sorry I never went by to hang out since we lived kind of close back then. But loved all of her work and now she also teaches at our Alma Mater. It's a shame Locke HS gave the boot to Reggie Andrews and his music program, because it's where Patrice got a lot of experience playing jazz in HS. Locke was music, but not anymore. Charter school ruined the legacy. Seem the way of education now, sadly.

One of my favourite musicians of all time.

Ever see when a skilled artisan comes in to do some work. I'm talking the guys from the old country! Yeah, I could go lay some tiles down on the wall, floor, etc. & they might stick & last a year or so. But then the master artisan comes in, you watch how he works that trowel with a motion that'd take decades to hone, but he's just working it like it's nothing. When he's done, the tilework is a thing of utter beauty & lasts This is what all of those musicians you listed do for me sonically.
