Not sure if this still tracks at top level, but the other helpful part of sensor is that the enemy is way more afraid to do a play. Even if they know they are 100% safe to do it they still hesitate to do it cause of the threat of an enemy player using the info. Its helpful cause it almost snuffs out short ranged slayers just from the threat of midlines shutting it down

I think it does track yeah you can’t do anything except spam bombs and paint if you’re sensored

So real. I mainly play Rollers so whenever I get tracked by point sensor it cramps up nearly my entire playstyle
@StarShade0

Exactly. It nullifies an entire playstyle: sharking. It also shuts down Ninja Squid.

100% will be citing and mentioning this video during my Machine Neo Guide. Nice video Pika! It's crazy how in-depth point sensor can be.

def throwing a sensor before zooka is usually the play imo

Appreciate the video. it's nice to hear exactly why point sensor has been seeing an uptick in how good it is. Also this isn't exactly a utility sub, but curling has been seeing more use and a short guide video could be useful for showing the potential of this sub

I'm considering doing an extra episode at the end of this series to cover curling bomb, I've had several people mention across all these videos and I can definitely see why people group it loosely with utility

Nice you finally made the point sensor vid! Good stuff, Pika. What's the song at 4:50 btw? I'd like to add a couple useful tips for sensor as a vExplo main: tag enemies who are using specials! That includes anything with a recall, like zipcaster, inkjet, etc. Your teammates knowing where they are recalling to is very useful, and I always make sure to tag anyone using booyah bomb, kraken, ultra stamp, etc. In addition to that, I throw sensors into active fights all the time in case my teammates lose the fight, the trade back can happen immediately. Sensor is also very useful to use via sub strafing, because you can mix it into your movement and throw the sensor as you squidroll away from a threat, it's very efficient mixing mobility and information like that. Sensor also frequently can be used to pressure opponents, so many times I've tagged someone before they dropped out of spawn and they just turn around and go the other way because they know they're tracked. Underrated boon to this sub. 8:09 I think you meant to say vExplo here? Since that's the one that has sensor, not custom explosher.
@pikadave465
@pikadave465 3 месяца назад
Yep you're totally right, I've had custom explosher on the brain! VExplo is the sensor one, and at least we got that right in the thumbnail LOL. Awesome explosher insight here as well! Also that song is from Custom Robo, I link all the songs I use in the description so you can find it there.

great video. from what i’ve heard, you’re not the only high level comp player who believes in point sensor. with fights being so fast and deaths being so quick, i’ve heard more and more high and even top level players talk about how valuable point sensors are

8:10 I think it's the regular explosher with point sensor but custom does seem to like the sub so it's an easy slip up. Nova + opening gambit sounds like a lot of fun, never would have thought to try that so thanks for highlighting it.

I would love for this sub to be reworked in a way to not only set its own niche as an AOE utility sub, but also gives Angle Shooter a more suitable niche as well. The best way would probably be to shorten the duration of the Sensor’s initial AOE when it hits a surface. This would allow Angle Shooter to actually to have its own utility on being a tripwire sub weapon while Point Sensor can be an easy and reliable location tool that wouldn’t be as oppressive in lower levels of play.

man I have a soft spot for sensor on squiffer for all the advantages listed in the vid but bubble is so weak when its not combined with AOE. It just sucks that they stuck so closely to referencing bubbler when they could've done a mix of s1 vanilla and new especially since s3 new squif only borrows autobomb...

Pika do you have any advice about getting demoralized by this game? I really love a lot of much more difficult and less rewarding weapons, especially tri stringer and it's been really disappointing to try as hard as I can to master this weapon, lose over and over and feel crappy about that, and then switch to like a splattershot and win consistently and get kills easily, but have way less fun with the weapon itself I fully buy that no weapon is unviable in soloq but it's just hard when it's clear that when I play this weapon I'm trying so much harder just to have less impact than any other weapon. And I really do enjoy it, it's just really hard to enjoy a weapon when you feel like you're not getting better and everybody else is
@pikadave465
@pikadave465 3 месяца назад
To make highly technical weapons work at least in my experience you have to get deep into the details on what makes that weapon unique and make the most of that. In the case of tri stringer I know most players see its crazy turf output and potential to play like a charger or other backline weapon thanks to its range, but I don't often see stringers get bold with the close range tap shots or get creative with arcing shots over terrain as much as they could and other things like that, and those traits paired with the more standard playstyle for the weapon is what makes stringer special compared to other options. To find long term success and enjoyment out of weapons like that you have to have some intrinsic motivation to continually experiment with new ways to utilize the weapon and essentially pioneer the weapon beyond how most people see it. Probably my own most relatable experience with that was when I used bloblobber for a long time in high level competitive play. Most people see the weapon as a passive weapon that sits back and spams paint all game, but I also was fascinated by it being the only slosher capable of killing in one slosh and that motivated me to push an aggressive side of the weapon that threatened fast kills off of one-burst shots but that could also pivot to that passive painting playstyle whenever necessary, so the end result was my bloblobber play being far more flexible and consistent than everyone else's. Making that work consistently is extremely challenging though and takes a very long time, which is why I think you have to keep yourself motivated with new ideas to try as you keep practicing since results won't come for a while.

I use Classic Squiffer and have since Splatoon 2. Point Sensor is essentially part of my playstyle and allows me to anticipate opponents ahead of time. I play a “tactical playstyle mixed with quick reactions”, if that’s a a thing lol. But It’s refreshing to see people give it a chance. I was thinking of doing a guide on point sensor but you summed up what I wanted to say perfectly.
