QUAD LOCK motorcycle mount - downsides using Quad Lock phone mount for motorcycle.
Hi ladies and gents and welcome back to the channel. This week I'd like to show you 5 downsides I've experienced using Quad Lock motorcycle phone mount.
Even, I have to say Quad Lock phone mount is very good phone holder for bikes in this video I'd like to focus more on downsides from my experience so you can be better informed if you're considering Quad Lock phone mount as your next 'phone on a bike' mounting solution.

Quad lock make an adaptor that can be just stuck onto the phone or other phone case, really easy to fit, clean and stick

IMO don't pay much attention to this review - these are not "downsides" in reality. If Quadlock doesn't make a case for your phone (they do for all the popular ones) then don't buy it! How is it a downside? Auto-rotation? As someone points out in this chat, that is down to your phone and easily resolved. Price? You get what you pay for. Loads of cheaper universal mounts out there but if you value the camera on your phone then you need an anti-vibration mount. Quadlock is an excellent product IMO.

SP Connect definitely makes a better universal mount than Quad Lock, and they also make a chrome version, that looks stunning on a chopper. Why doesn't Quad Lock make a better universal mount, and a chrome mount? The best phone system for me, would be a blend of SP Connect and Quad Lock. None of them gets a 100% approval from my point of view.

totally agree - the problems are with his bike and the position he mounts the phone , and phones may be good now , but they don't replace satnavs .

I use an otter box phone case with the universal adapter. Works a treat and my phone is extra protected

If they don't have a case that fits your phone there is a universal adapter that can be put on to any phone or case, I use it on my phone and it works great

Actually it can't be used on any case, the material used for the case might not stick properly to certainly materials used to make phone cases, PC ( polycarbonate) hybrid cases are best 😊

I have been using quad lock with a note 8 ( yes there is no case for it but the note 9 case fits perfectly) I had no problems what so ever plus customer support is really good and they are always willing to solve the problem for you.

100% agree. I've managed to avoid them for the past 10 years and been using cheap silicone rubber mounts on my bicycles which are easily transferrable

i have Honor phones, no case, so I bought another case and sticked the universal adaptor on the case and workes perfectly. For your GPS upside down I was thinking this was a April fools video or a scamm video against Quadlock, Block the rotation or tell the GPS app in which position you want the screen when using the App. And if you travel there is the ball joint mount, so you just have to buy a support with hand screws that support ball joints. I just saw a 8min video and already found a solution, if you travel for work and do a lot of motorvlogging it looks like you have some issues in troubleshooting or this video is just against quadlock ;-)

Your screen rotation is a simple fix. Dim the screen and turn it on again, that should fix the rotation. If not then it's a problem with the phone, not the quad lock.

Like I've mentioned on the video a) I can't flip it up anymore, it hits the windscreen and b) I'm not carrying alien key with me on moto tours just so I can adjust quadlock on the go.

Maps Upside-Down problem: Lock screen rotation. Phone case problem: There is a plug that you stick to the back of any smartphone. The issue being, that some people report that the stickiness really sucks and it's not for all surfaces. Other than that, this was a great review man, thank you very much!

Your point 1 - but it does come with a universal phone mount that sticks with industrial strength tape. Your point 2 - that is not quadlock's fail, that's user application.

1. I didn't get that with my kit, 2. Yes, but problem is once tighten I can't adjust it without a tool - I'm usually not carrying that tool in my toolbox on trips👍👋

@@shiftupadventure The universal phone mount is a separate purchase. One either buys the phone specific case OR the uni-adaptor. Their origin KickStarter started with that and then they added the cases as years went on. They use some pretty hardcore tape with it so no fear of it coming loose; like I can pick up my mountain bike with the phone and have had some pretty big stacks on the trails with no issues. www.quadlockcase.com.au/collections/shop-other

I believe, but will non quad lock phone case withstand vibrations and forces on the bike and not drop the phone from the non quad lock phone case, I don't think quad lock will guarantee for that.

@@shiftupadventure they sell an anti-vibration mount, released because of the camera issues with the last iPhone. As for the non-QL case, nah that'd be on you to make sure you get a quality 3rd party case. TBH the QL case is equal to many decent cases, just theirs has the mount hole moulded into it. Can't go wrong really, a decent product that's constantly expanding their range 👍

I use it in the car and with daily use the lock will wear down over time. It doesn't snap in anymore after turning the case into position where it sould snap. Do I have to replace the case or the base? .. . Try and error with a new case or base would work... The case itself is a great protector. I have to look for an alternative.

Odlican video..Sve tocno receno za mount, meni se neda koji puta fidlat i stavljat mob u njihovu maskicu da ga mogu montirat na motor, inace koristim wallet tip maskice pa moram prebacit u case..Ja sam sebi uzeo dodatan adapter koji se doda na mount, cisto da odvoji mobitel od vizira a i da mogu mob postavit vertikalno ako pozelim, takodjer je lakse skidanje i monitranje jer nije na knap. P.S Jeste rijesili problem sa tekucinom sta je procijedila kraj nogare?

Hvala, ma da, taj Quad Lock trazi previse paznje i love i stalno jos nesto fali. Nije los ali ima nezgodne limitacije po mom misljenju. Za curenje su mi rekli u Rutingu da je najvjerojatnije to visak iscurio, iako meni nije jasno kako to nije prije iscurilo, ali bukiran sam na servis uskoro pa cemo vidjeti. Problem je sto sam u Dalmaciji, a servis je u Zagrebu pa sam morao izabrat dobar termin sad radi zime, a i da obavim i druge stvari. Objavit cu video nakon servisa. Pozdrav 👍👋

I think the issues you have with the quad lock are issues with you rather than the quad lock. Most people in day to day use would have the same issues as you.

I have the same bike and the same iPhone mount and I agree with what you've said. Quadlock is not a bad mount but it's not great either. What they are great at is tracking you ALLLLL over the internet and charging a lot of money for their cheaply made Chinese mounts and accessories.

Great review... You just got a new subscriber :) How long you have your Quadlock mount? I saw some reviews where after using Quadlock for a few months, the ''teeth on the phone case get worn up from vibrations and phone become a little bit lose (even someones said that their phones complete detached from the mount). Also what I found, on newer phones like iPhone 11 or 12, phones which use optical imagine stabilization mechanism, which is a fragile thing, that it can damage your camera during vibrations (it complete mess up your autofocus on camera, and makes the camera of your phone completely unuseful). After a lot of consumers had this issue Quadlock put a vibration dumper on the market. Did you experience any of those issues? Even after spending more than €120 on case and mounts, I still wouldn't feel like to put comfortable putting my iPhone on a bike. P.S. Brate svaka cast na reviewu... Namjerno san pisa na engleskom ako koji stranac naleti pa da im pomognemo... Samo tako nastavi i do kraja godine si na 100k suscribera :)

Hvala, pozdrav! Ma hajde, dao sam hrpu para za taj Quad Lock i stalno moram misliti na njega kao na razmazenu mladu, jesam li uzeo case, hoce li mi unistiti mobitel, je l dobro zakopcan i tako. S ovim Ram-ovim X gripom nikad problema ubacim ga u torbu i montiram u sekundi kako i di treba i ne zamaram se vise. Najjaci su mi ovi sto pisu komentare da je razumna cijena ovog americkog polu proizvoda. 👍👋

Super video a i super motor. CB500X? Nov sam u svijetu motora pa ako smijem pitat: Kakve i koje torbe tj. kofere na zadnjem sjedalu koristiš? Mogu li poslužiti i na CB500F? Koliko vidim CB500F i X su skoro pa indetični. Kakvim ti se čini GIVI S920 mount? (Vidim da si ga koristio) Imam priliku uzeti GIVI s920 mount pa me zanima tvoje iskustvo.

You can buy universal mounts that stick on back of any phone or case that isn't silicone or glass. You can fit an universal mount on the back of an otterbox case with a little modification. And your map being upside down is your problem not the mount 😅

@@shiftupadventure I've used a Ram XGrip for the last few years but it's wrecked the camera on a few of my phones. I looked for something to remedy this with the Ram mount but they don't have anything so I've just ordered a Quadlock with the the dampener.

Pozdrav! Hocu da uzmem quadlock za cb500x2022 i mislio sam ga montirati na istom mjestu. Nastavak bi trebao biti mirror mount sa dodatkom za vibracije. Kakva je pozicija telefona za snimanje videa? Lp

mogao bi ti udarat u vjetrobransko staklo, meni je to smetalo, ali nemam taj dodatak za vibracije koji ga izvuce ipak malo, uglavnom obrati pozornost da mu je limitirano kretanje horizontalno

So why did you not mount in on your handlebar? That would resolve most of your issues. It's simple to move to another bike from a handlebar.

Honestly all of y’all that are having problems is you not the mount. I’ve never had one issue at all with my quad lock mounts and I’ve been using them for three years. And I only spend 60 usd and it’s always been great to me. To me ram mounts are bad because they don’t stay in one place on the handle bar or in the stem mount

Quad lock also sells a universal attachment that will stick on any case you have

No it won't, there are many materials for which the 3M adhesive is unsuitable for, you must make sure you have a polycarbonate hybrid phone case, it will stick like a death grip on that 😊

Really appreciate this review of the Quad Lock. I just purchased one yesterday and am waiting for delivery. I hope I don't have too many issues like you did. If you install it correctly you won’t have any problems. I’ve never had any problems with my quad lock and I do tricks on my motorcycles with it and race with it

I'm using a Quadlock by MTB and used it at Cross Country trails and never have an issue about :Auto rotation". Using it by 2 years now though🤷‍♀️

I was completely disappointed, I ordered the complete package which includes 3 parts but one of those parts(handlbar mount) is missing screws. When I contacted the support or customer service center, they told me "sorry we can not do anything " and they sent me information about the size of the screws and told me to go buy replacement screws and send them the invoice. I could not find those screws anywhere and all this package without screws is useless. This would be a great product if it worked and had customer service behind it.

Really good overview. You certainly nailed it! I just got a new IPhone so thought I would change from my Ram X Mount to the Quadlock. As you suggest I was suckered in by the hype. I was also lured by the ani-vibration mount which I need for the new phone. It sure gets expensive fast. Luckily I took advantage of a big Black Friday sale. (It may be an American thing, not sure. But it’s a big sale after Thanksgiving Day. Which I think is another American thing. We eat too much and spend too much money, right!) Anyway, I do like the one-handed operation versus the two-handed Ram X. But, as you mention, the required phone case if fat and weighs a ton. Nothing is ever perfect. We will see how this works over time. Question, how did you find the place on the Honda to run power from? I was going to run a cable from the battery but a switched Honda circuit would be better. Thanks.

😂 hehe yes, thanks, so Honda has a connector where oem 12v charger goes, that's under 12v charger on the dash, left hand side. I've bought splitter to be able to connect 2 accessories (that's that wire in the video) so now on honda plug is, connected, on one side of the splitter oem 12v charger and quad lock usb charger on the other side of splitter, and all feeds into 1 oem socket for 12v charger. Hope it makes sense. Max output from there is 6 amps so no issues with that, watch for this output if you'll want to use 3 to 1 splitter, for example. This oem 12v charger is not under power when bike is turned off. Hope it helps 👍👋

Ah, that makes sense now. And I do know where the connection inside the fairing is. But where do you get the splitter? I’m not sure what the connector specs are. Thanks, I appreciate the advice.

Quad Lock is alright, but all these phone mount companies are asleep at the wheel, same for the Bluetooth headset/communicator companies. They must try to keep selling without enhancing or improving. I didn’t want to buy a Quad Lock, because I wanted a system I could mount which would have a magnet lock in like my SW-Motech tank bag but for the phone, wireless charging, 360 dual ball flexibility, and could mount to my 12mm navigation bar. None of them have an option. You either need to come c,OSW with Quad Lock or Peak Designs. I prefer Peak Designs, but the lack of wireless charging in this day and age is amateur hour and forced me to discount them and go with the less well-designed Quad Lock.

Why does everyone talk about water proof cases when almost all phones are like ipx6 to 8 water proof now. I think if they if can fall in a pool they can survive the rain. 😂

If you are going to sell a motorcycle phone attachment then you sell all the parts needed for a motorbike as one package. It’s like ordering a meal but they only bring the meat on the plate, and you have to buy all the other food that makes it’s at meal separately.

Lock your screen rotation on your phone problem solved. You said yourself you need the phone at that angle, so every mount used would be at the same angle and you phone is whats rotating the screen.

Nice visuals, *a few* good observations. But your video is 3x longer than it needs to be. Avoid repetition, say a thing once only. Edit. Keep it tight. Don't pad, and respect your viewers' time. Also you'll get more subscribers if you do this.

1.They have a universal adapter that you can stick on to anything. 2/3. That's your problem. If you want to mount it like that then that's on you, not QuadLock. They just other options. 4. Their prices are reasonable. 5. Just buy it then? It's not that expensive.

Problem with universal adapter is the phone case. Will non Quad Lock phone case withstand vibrations and forces, that's very questionable. 👍👋

tip .. dont buy the quadlock .. buy the copy one .. done .. works just as well as the quadlock .. with universal pad to place back on phone .. use 3m and not the included sheet .. and you are set .. oh and its 1-2 bucks

save yourself time: Not a good review! mostly personal issues not related to the mount itself. this mount just didn't fit the user but has no fundamental problems besides being expensive! recap: mount expensive (valid point) maps upside down for his setup (obvious phone issue,) Imo this could also be viewed as a motorcycle flaw using his logic? windscreen to far backwards if you forget the case you can't use the mount (user error) not a case for every phone on the market (quadlock offers a solution through a universal patch)
