I used to teach in Jackson public schools...wingfield high...those kids would get a better education if the city commissioners weren't busy stuffing their pockets.

DARK STAR well theyre bad because of the soil/clay that mississippi, and other southern states, are made of. the roads deteriorate quickly and like the other guy said, jackson doesnt have the money. shoot, i live in a middle class area north of jackson and the roads are still shit. they get paved every 5 years its that bad

@@asheasarhan5141 If I had to live in Jackson, it would be in North Jackson off Old Canton or off Ridgewood/ Meadowbrook. I would also consider living in South Jackson, Brookleigh or one of the older subdivisions off Terry Road near Byram. There are a couple of other gated subdivisions in Jackson that are in good areas though.

Downtown looks nice but the rest of the city look so run down, poverty stricken, and down trodden. How could state officials let their capital city look like that? Do they just not care?
As a teen raised in the nicer northeast part of jackson, i hate to see the rest of my city like this. I hope everyone else from the 601 can help this place get back on top.

I moved out Jackson, MS in 1973 to Charlotte, NC and it was my greatest move. Towns suffer because of terrible management. I understand there is a killing at least once a week. What kind people act this, imbeciles and cases?
I’m from Canton ……moved away as a kid. Hate to see the area left behind. The folks in and around the area deserve better. Canton …Jackson area will always be my home tho.

@@waltataylo1655 I came to say the same thing. These people have houses and most of these houses still look good. Some people's slums are filled with makeshift homes made out of four pieces of tin. With a little yard work and sprucing up, this neighborhood would look a lot better and they wouldn't call it a slum.

I cruised this city for hundreds of thousands of miles; investigated hundreds upon hundreds of murder cases over 21 years there. Totally gone to shit. Sister city the likes of Memphis; Atlanta; Birmingham; Mobile and the list goes on.

Saw some pretty nice houses just need some upkeep. Every place would look like that if no one cleaned them up. We all need to take care of our homes. If we don't care why should anyone else?
Chris W American infrastructure as a whole, has been on the decline since the 1970s. And yes, places with less employment and less property taxes etc.., have less money to fix infrastructure. Money is spent on other priorities such as water treatment, elected officials, police, fire dept, etc.. Sad...but true

As free market fundamentalist ideology it has its own logic, but it must make it even more difficult and demoralising for people who already have problems associated with living in poverty I'd have thought. See the taller building on the right side of the screen next to the building that appears to be leaning In the opening clip , on the other side of that building on the top two floors is a hidden AT&T cell site ... I only know this because I wired it up in 2016 haha ... Looking at this building from any angle you can not tell its there but its in there and it's not easy to get to either .... We had to park in the parking deck on the left and borrow a cart from the little grocery store next door and carry everything from the parking deck across the street , load after load after load of all the equipment .... Getting everything from the parking deck to the top of the other building took longer than it did building the actual site and even though the job called for it to be done in 5 days , we still got it done in 4 with all the problems and issues including chasing down and correcting all the different alarms ... it literally almost took an entire day just to get all the equipment up there , another day to build the site , one day of chasing alarms and fixing everything and then on the last day we did the video audits and close outs , clean up and get all the trash and empty boxes down ... somewhere around this area was an old soul food restaurant and I can't remember the name of it but I'll never forget how good the food was there ... If anyone knows the restaurant I'm talking about I would love to know the name of it because even though I doubt I'll ever have another chance to eat there , I would like to know the name of it because it was literally some of the best food I ever ate (next to momma's cooking that is 😏)... I use to live in Jackson, Mississippi but I was born and raised in New York. I moved back to New York like in 2008 , what I can say about what I learned about jacktown is that the people there are really humble and it respectful 💯
I was in Jackson last weekend and I can honestly say that I have never ever seen poverty like that in my life. The hood looks like third world countries. So sad people live like that. It's hurtful to see blacks living like that. SMFH

Man I’m from the Delta born and raised but some years back i was at the University Medical center in Jackson. I was in the ER and a nurse came in and told everyone to leave the first 3 rows empty just in case something go down.

Use to go visit family down there. Haven't been since 2009. Use to drive from Chicago to Jackson almost every summer. But I have heard about the pothole problem down there.
These uploads are great because it shows the world just how poor so much of America is, and the fact that most Americans couldn't care less and don't want to help. We pulled off the highway and passed through Jackson one summer evening 2 years back. It was around 9pm and the streets were completely empty. We did not come across a single person on the sidewalk. Can anyone tell me why the place was so deserted? It was one of the eeriest experiences of my life.
