I have no idea what made the Saw Doctors do a remake of such an iconic song like 'Downtown' but boy am I glad they did. And having Petula Clark herself singing along in the video is BRILLIANT!
Petula Clark turned 89 yesterday (Nov. 15), and before the pandemic, she was still appearing on stage! Great singer and great role model for active aging. Thanks for bring this wonderful collaboration with the Saw Doctors back to celebrate her birthday.
Happened to catch this by change and glad that I have....it's remarkable that Petula Clark has had a career that spans 7 decades and still doing well at 90 years old!
You know no matter what song the Docs turn their hand to it always sounds good. The Saw Doctors are a credit to Tuam / Galway and the entire west coast, unlike other bands they have never forgot where they come from and I am sure that this video served a dual purpose of promoting the song as well as Galway as a Christmas shopping destination. Hope the song does well, I know that it has already hit the newspapers on the US West coast.
Even after all these years, Petula remains a stunner. My late dad was madly in love with her. Fair play to her for having the humour to do this with the Saw Doctors.Wonderful redition of a classic.
The addition of Petula Clark's wonderful vocals to The Saw Doctors version of her big 60's hit "Downtown" makes this simply magical. I can't believe how great Pet's vocals are at 80 years old!!! She recently had hits in Belgium with her 2013 album "Lost In You." But, this Saw Doctors version is brilliant. Love it. Pumped new life into the tune and virtually reintroduces Ms. Clark to a new audience.
Man, this was so refreshing!! Excellent job; and with Petula Clark in the background is epic. You brought back so many wonderful memories, especially in a time such as this. The background is so much as how I envisioned the song growing up in the Bronx as a child. Petula Clark looks stellar! 😎😎😎
I only recently found this video. It makes me smile each time I watch it. This song was so popular when I was a kid. Seeing Petula Clark featured in the video is so wonderful.
Oh yeah same I was just going to say to type a similar comment. I’m 27 and from oxford in the U.K.. I love Petulas music I saw her concert in York in 2013 it was amazing and got to meet her after and she signed my program. Where are you from mate?
Wow! I am impressed! And it takes a lot to impress me, especially where any cover of Petula Clark's work is concerned, as I grew up listening to it. I was 14 when this song debuted on the charts in the US and it was a monster hit. I never thought I'd ever hear anyone do a cover of this song that would come anywhere close to when Petula Clark sings it (and at any point in time, as she's still singing it 50 years later), but these three guys just did it. Of course Petula's help and joining in didn't hurt, either, and if she participated in this video, it's the highest endorsement the guys who make up The Saw Doctors can get. Outstanding cover! Thanks for posting it
~ In 2018 54 years is no longer such a long time in a lifetime. Celebrating both the Saw Doctors AND Petula Clark, a living legend!! Thank you for posting this fine video... Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
Great song - i also sang it incessantly in the 60s - am 52. Petula looks fab for her age. Wow! Downtown has done her a world of good. The saw doctors are great fun too.
A bouncy video revival of a great Petula classic. She's a great as ever! The Saw Doctors who are new to me were terrific as well. Very Enjoyable ! - Tom B.
Great to see Galway and the Saw Doctors doing this song. Such an uplifting video. No way to be other than elated to listen. By the way, Petula Clark was wonderful to see again. Looks great and has a beautiful voice. Makes me want to go back to Galway and do my own version of Downtown.
