I got see this guy perform at a local music store a couple years ago when he was brought in to demonstrate the Godin line. He is just a fantastic player to watch.
That Olson really is so gorgeous and plays so beautifully. Love the Beatles Medley. Almost as good as when you play it on one of your 12 String guitars. Bravo for this performance! Very enjoyable.
This is really amazing with the selected quotes from other songs worked into the arrangement! Also, removing the capo without any break in the music. I had to go back and search for when and how he did it, almost hidden from view!
The first time that I saw him was on Larry's Country Diner. And, I was blown away with his picking skills, especially with a six string. If you close your eyes you would think that he was playing the 12 string guitar. I would rate him up there with the likes of Roy Clark, Chet Atkins and Glenn Campbell. And that's going some, to rate him that high. However, let's not forget Jimmi Hendricks and of course Eddie Van Halen, the two best rock guitarist. I won't say exactly where he rates but he's in with some awesome guitae players.
He plays each of the individual artists. He said, one time on stage, that his style is a combination of many artists. He had to figure each one out and incorporate his favorite parts of each, into building his style. And he DOES have his own style! I heard him, one time, on a video, made in a store; someone asked him how many artists he could play like...so he showed them. He started playing a tune and each time he would get done playing like one artist, he would "call on" another artist, but it was him all along, but you'd swear it was that artist he was playing like! The guy is AMAZING !!! They don't make SHOWMEN like Him, every day
For whatever reason, I only recently found Doyle Dykes. He's absolutely amazing in both talent and interpretation. I won't compare them in terms of "better than" but I am reminded of Tommy Emmanuel. Ranking them in relation to each other would be a disservice to both. I've seen Tommy many times and spoken with him as well, and he expresses nothing but respect and admiration for anyone who gives their best to the instrument. One thing about Tommy is that my favorite pieces by him are his own compositions, such as "Those Who Wait" and "Angelina." I'm curious to know if Doyle composes any of his own pieces. I've searched him out on RU-vid now that I've found out about him and haven't seen him perform his own music. That's no criticism, as I said, he's awesome. Just curious. Also thanks for to the algorithm for showing him to me and shame on it for taking so long!
why silly remarkers who possibly could not play an extended chord sequence constantly tell some one as brilliant as Doyle how to play. why dont you start your own youtube channel so we mortals can learn from you.
Let the guy earn a living and provide for his family. Like most artists, he’s good enough to be paid to use that pickup and certain other equioment. It puts food on the table for his wife and kids, whether you like the sound or not.
