Doyle Dykes plays "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles/George Harrison on solo acoustic guitar. Search for other versions by Jake Shimabukuro, Tommy Emmanuel and Laurence Juber if you like this.
Not being able to play more than two notes on a guitar I have nothing but down right respect for these masters of the strings! There are so many great players but perhaps 10 who take their art form to another planet...Doyle, Martino, Tommy, Chet, Jerry Reed, Carlton, Les, Hendrix, Clapton and Rory. Of course 10 isn't enough but the ones I chose changed the music industry forever, each in their own right. As a music lover I, we, have been blessed to have had these individuals breathing the same air as us!!!
Doyle has been the best kept secret of the ac guitar world for many years. One of the greatest living pickers and he has always had great musicality..like Martin Simpson it's a joy to see him play so easily.
The DDSM with the black working with the mother of pearl and abalone, and the ebony fretboard is the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen. The best guitar I have ever played as well.
Doyle is a master.... no doubt. I always hoped to be half as good as he is but am still not even close to that goal. Years ago, I got to meet him up close and personal. He made an appearance at one of our local music stores that I liked to frequent. I met him as he pulled into the parking lot. Helped him carry his gear into the stage area. We chatted a little while setting up. I was plinking on his guitar a bit. He looked at me and said, "you break it, you bought it". He had a big smile when he said it though. Very nice man.
I am a subscriber to his channel on RU-vid. I also play guitar 🎸 but he is a master. Probably the best finger style guitarist in the world. RU-vid Doyle Dykes chet stuff.
@DavelovesRealMusic This man is one of the greatest guitar players in the world, actually on my list he's on top with Tommy Emmanuel and Steve Vai and John Petrucci. They all play different, but I can say - their arrangements are just blowing mind. Almost everyone can play fast and smooth, but to write such as arrangement you have to be just from another world.
Lawrence Genereux - Your wish has been fulfilled: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6ULYo_VXnTM.html That’s Part 1 of 3, plus there’s a fourth part with Lizzie Watkins. Enjoy!! 😎
I’m sorry but I need the very ending of this vid to be there. I’m soooo curious how he ended the piece. If at all possible. This performance is just incredible. ✊🏼
@alongbow We couldn't all get that good, better than we currently are yes, but plenty of us old folks have arthritic fingers that would make this level of play beyond any amount of practice. It would be a much better sounding world if we tried though.
We could all practice, practice, practice and be able to play this.....BUT how many of us could come up with an arrangement like it?????? Be honest people!!!!
I am STILL trying to play a version of this. I am 17 with no proper training. Doesn't sound TOO bad, but I can't figure out a LOT of it lol. DO you have tabs? I would like to see them.
"he's simply playing chords and single notes"...well no shit genius, it's not possible to play anything but notes and chords (several notes) on an instrument. And if you don't think it's fancy, you've obviously never tried to play fingerstyle, where you have to play melodies, chords and basslines all at the same time.
What are you listening to him on? He's playing in a TV studio. Give him a fair play and you'll hear what a great guitar virtuoso he is. I will agree that this particular performance is not my favorite but he can make a guitar sing.
