He is one of the hippest directors out there. If you are cool, you saw The Host when it first came out. If you are really cool, you already knew him from Memories of Murder. And now, his biggest film, the world-on-a-movie-train thriller, Snowpiercer.
Shot in Los Angeles, June 2014

is something woring with the translator? Bong is such a smart, witty person but the translator kills it.

This movie was good and allegory behind the story is wonderful, but "Gwoemul" was the real masterpiece by this director.

my friend didnt give me time to trailer it or look at poster. he sent me right off to the movies to see it, i thought "what freakin movie would be called ..Snowpiercer...dumbest sounding name"... I was blown away on all levels. I legit *spoilers* rose out of my seat unconsciously going "YEA!" with a fist pump when the asian slave ninja knife throw at the teacher

How can a great director be so cute?^^~~**/ From the last part, he exposes the reason through Tilda.

I liked the film overall, but the ending seemed rushed and not fully fleshed out to me.
@smilingkyu
@smilingkyu 10 лет назад
the meaning of ending is simple. Curtis realized that the snowpiercer (the real name is miracle train) worked no more for the passengers and the snowpiercer is only a despair. So he gave Yona the natch for getting out of the train. Accidently only an afro - American boy and an Asian girl survived from this train (the last Ark) and they became Adam and Eve in the bible. The polar bear means out of the train, there is a existing ecosystem where they can live. It is a happy ending. ^^

kyu smile Exactly. The polar bear moment was absolutely beautiful, and the end conversations with both Wilford and Minsoo were so revealing, emotional, twisted, and incredible.

kyu smile Not really, the train worked he just decided that the societ and the way the train worked was not saving. The train was meant to recreat humanity but it was also very cruel and harsh so tahts what he decided. Also the part where he put his arm in the gear was intense its relating back to when he talked about when he was about to kill the baby. He was learning to be a leader and sacrificed himself inorder to stop the cruelness of the train. I agree, with Jesse Dampolo as well it was a great movie with a great ending.

@dylangallardo2727

He can speak english, he speaks it fairly well around 2:23. The translator is there probably to make it easier for english speaking audiences hear what's being said clearly, or to clear up any confusion if an english phrase is used that Bong Joon-Ho might not understand. But I mean, seems like he has a good grasp on it. Well enough to direct actors I would think.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed with this hipster way of starting every sentence with "so" utterly needlessly? It's really bad with this translator. Plus, he sounds like he's about to fall asleep with every word, just sucking the energy out of the dynamic of the interview.

Horrible film, nice guy
@ValkyrieOey
@ValkyrieOey 10 лет назад
The only reason I could see why it was bad was the obvious plot holes, but the script, the deeper meaning and everything was brlliant. YOu gotta atleast respect the guy and the film for his ambition and his ideas in creating the film.
@Paperbagman555
@Paperbagman555 10 лет назад
Fair enough, I could see the deeper meaning but it wasn't subtle or that well crafted. Maybe because I saw this at a festival it went over my head. It wasn't really all the plot holes, it was the performances and ending that bugged me
@ValkyrieOey
@ValkyrieOey 10 лет назад
Paperbagman555 Yeah I can see why the ending bugged people, some people felt it was too rush or too slow, those are the main complaints so I can also understand why you disliked the film. And I agree that at parts the deeper meaning wasn't subtle but the deeper meaning was so huge that it was subtle at parts and not sublte at other parts. Like when the guys slit the fish that was not subtle enough I agree.
