The aftermarket has changed massively for DPF-equipped trucks. We chat with Nick Priegnitz, owner of Calibrated Power, about tuning new trucks. Does a tuned emission-compliant truck lose durability? Is CARB testing needed to sell tunes? How tunable are the 10 speed automatics from Ford and GM? Nick answers these questions and tons more!

I have a 2013 ram 6.7 tuned. Crew cab 8’ bed. Engine has been sound @ 200,000 but emissions have cost me a lot of repair/replacement. I care about the trans and try to preserve it. I am a farmer and want the truck to tow max loads. I,m thinking of a Banks monster ram , some cold intake, with and ATS 68rfe valve body upgrade. Any suggestions

@@craigshackelford4495 mishimoto trans cooler with a ats bypass for increased flow. Also if your truck has 200k, its time for new motor mounts. That will save your bell house when towing

The coal rolling crew is what got everything way more attention! That wasn’t needed . Who wants a truck that you can’t see behind you because of black smoke!! That’s just wasting fuel anyway! I want to delete my ram. But I don’t want to roll coal like those idiots! Just want something that want let me down because of DEF or something stupid that doesn’t need to be on the truck

The only time my truck (2019 f250 6.7) has ever left me stranded was when the DEF system went out and it was at the dealer for 3 weeks getting fixed at least it was under warranty. Love the podcast listen to it every day

Good luck, picked up a 22’ 2500 Ram, was in twice in less than a month for frozen def pump issues. I have been on the hunt for parts and tunning since fall of 21’ and there is nothing out there. Even if I find the hard parts, nobody is working on the programming. I am in the upper midwest where a truck doesnt last much past 15-20 years before its rusted beyond use so buying and restoring is out the window, if I want to drive a capable somewhat reliable truck I am stuck with an emissions, truck, have to keep buying extended warranties I guess……0
@TheElderOne2003
@TheElderOne2003 Год назад
@Ryan Fowler upper Midwest drivers he also. On my 22 Ram 2500 6.7L I've had zero issues with anything so far. Always parked outside and left for days between usage with no Def issues. Parts to delete are done a dozen but tuning is still like 6 to 12 months out due to the software upgrades in the ecu. If you want to delete it now just get a 21 computer, unlock it, install the tune and go from there. Untill a native flash tune is out.

@czwarlord9243 10 месяцев назад
@@TheElderOne2003as far as the def issues go the reason you aren’t freezing def/pumps is because you don’t live at 50 below zero. Ryan Fowler apparently is. It was an extremely common issue when I lived in the interior of Alaska. So you have to understand people have different issues in different areas of the US.

What are thoughts of tuners on a Standard Output Cummins vs a High Output Cummins? They really only ever mention SO numbers. Just curious.

Just my part of the country everyone still deletes new trucks within 100k miles. There is no emissions testing for trucks or cars. Everyone wants to be able to hear the exhaust note. If someone could figure out how to make them louder and make the trucks sound good and keep those parts intact it would definitely help to get people away from deletes. Until that is accomplished everyone is going to continue to do away with them.

Well maybe we need to work on refining tuning to clean them up if we can reduce smoke output and put down same power without restrictive emissions we would have the best of bolth worlds efficiency and power

@@mattmcdermott4766 but typically is emissions compliance he's definitely done alot for the diesel preformance scene government wants less emissions so they restrict our trucks requiring them to use more fossil fuels so in turn we are making up for the emissions reduced via emissions systems so wouldn't we be better off with no emissions and clean tuning that utilizes our engines to there most potential and reduce fossil fuel usage

@@Dieselfan1997 the truck world will be moving away from def and will probably be using ethanol as def replacement. The new emission systems are more reliable in my opinion.

@@moavic5087 my point is if we can make clean tuning that makes good power and get great mileage why do we need these emissions systems in the first place if all they do is restrict power and decrease our fuel mileage causing us to have to use more fossil fuels which in turn causes increased emissions

I have a 2007 6.7, 115,000 miles. Biggest cost of ownership of any truck i have ever owned. Currently needs $3,000.00 of front end work and needs a steering box. Garage kept and looks like a new truck but, it's falling apart. Also the chime goes off and the dealer says they cant make it go away. Wish i had considered another brand. I have had Chevys go 400,000 with low cost.

In my opinion deleting a truck won’t make it any more reliable than you think it will. I’ve seen both deleted and intact diesels reach high mileage with minimal issues when maintained properly. Ive seen deleted trucks come in for big issues like cracked heads, head gaskets, turbos, transmissions, cylinder/piston damage,etc all with issues stemming from a poor delete job/tune/driver. We do see similar problems from intact trucks but that stems back to proper maintenance. When deleting your truck you’re taking a risk that it’s done right and you do proper maintenance. Also it’s federally illegal. One day in the near future a bunch of these deleted trucks will be back in the shop getting the emissions put back on. It’s just the way society is moving.

6.0 egr valve stuck 3 times in 50k miles regularly maintained and stock.... same truck with 150k miles deleted never been back to the shop with 310k.... have another truck, 6.4 had one issue with it and deleted immediately. In my personal experience deleting it made it more reliable, and more efficient. Climb through several mountain passes hauling hay and never have issues. Better Temps, and cleaner. Just as anything, depends on what you do with the truck and where its at. Flat landers and the type of driving makes a big difference.
