Regarding landscape, there is one area that the M4/3 cameras have a huge advantage over Fuji. Very high quality, reasonably small and compact, weather sealed ultra wide lenses. Panasonic 8-18mm and Olympus 7-14mm.... these are incredibley important lenses for people who are hiking in bad condiitons to get their shots. Fuji has the 10-24 but it's not weather sealed. Their 8-16mm will be great I'm sure, but it's too big and heavy.

I will admit, this video is VASTLY superior to Tony Northrup’s latest video as of when THIS video’s posted. While Tony was straight up hating on M4/3 cameras for dying out in photography, you literally gave us a different perspective on why M4/3 cameras are still around and are very viable choices. Well done! And note: I only meant PHOTOGRAPHY, videos excluded from this as they are a whole different thing.
@justininfrance
@justininfrance 5 лет назад
JustSimplyBrandon Absolute nonsense. Northrup repeated numerous times he loves the M43 system, and that they use the GH5 for all their videos. He was simply saying he thought M43 would die out over the next five years as Panasonic move to full-frame.
@JustSimplyBrandon
@JustSimplyBrandon 5 лет назад
Saurat Did you read “in photography”? Where did I say in my comment regarding videography? I consider those two aspects of the camera separate as one camera can do one thing better than another. That being said, I ONLY mentioned photography. Of course he Tony talked about how he likes M4/3 for videography, as I did watch his full video and payed attention. Please read carefully on what people comment before you jump to the conclusion of thinking that person is in the wrong. You could’ve at least asked “Is that your stance on taking videos, as well?” Then I would look critically into how my comment was written out and extrapolate.

@adrianvanleeuwen
@adrianvanleeuwen 4 года назад
There will always be a need for a compact camera and lens system which is why I doubt that m43 with Olympus and Panasonic will die out. Pros are often going to Full Frame, with the exception of Panasonic GH5 when used with video. Still going strong. Dpreview still uses as their main camera for video reviews still in October 2019. They are also doing reviews on new FF mirrorless using these for video samples. But they still love the GH5 for many reasons as it is optimized for great video and audio.

Strange how for portraits, autofocus wasn't important for the Panasonic, but really important for the Fuji. That aside, a pretty good summation, though I think some of the advantages of M43 (size, weight, image stabilisation, reach) were brushed aside. I often use M43 for portraits and the G9 is capable of excellent results when using lenses like the Nocticron and Olympus 75 mm f1.8. The eye recognition is actually very good. The D500 is an excellent portrait camera too, particularly when coupled with the Nikon 58mm f1.4 lens. I have never shot with the Fuji, so I can't venture an opinion on it, though as a raw shooter I am not particularly interested in the film simulation colours. I think the G9 might score higher in the video stakes now, with the upcoming firmware release on 19 November 2019.

I love the fair review, good to see some alternatives to the full frame frenzy. For me personally, I prefer the G9 over the X-T3 for anything quick and handheld like street or hiking, because you can change settings so much faster with just one hand. With the Fuji, you pretty much always need that second hand on the controls plus I can take an extra lens or two without overshooting my comfortable weight limit.

I've had the XT-3 for a week now and I'm in love with it. I've done event, outdoor, and long exposure projects with it so far and it's such a capable little machine. 'Fujifilm actually care about APS-C and make great lenses for it.' This is why I was so eager to switch away from Canon. Fujifilm make great, metal-body weather-sealed lenses built for the APS-C sensor, unlike my old Canon 80d where I had to choose either a low end plastic lens with useful focal lengths but poor image quality, or a high end lens that was built for FF.

@Tecra-md3by
@Tecra-md3by 4 года назад
@@8020Alive Surely you just skipped the parts where both the Olympus and the Panasonic beat Nikon BADLY. And even for landscape, it is arguable that Fuji is better. They were talking about how more megapixels are better for that, while Panasonic and Olympus both have an 80MP mode, that you can do even handheld, not to mention that Olympus and Panasonic have arguably the most rugged bodies and lenses, which is a clear advantage for landscape photography. For sports and nature, both micro 4/3 cameras are more than usable, but alright I understand why they wouldn't win, it is still not a "bad" loss. For street photography, I agree with everything they said, here you can say they lost to Fuji by a much larger margin than in any other category, but they still beat the Nikon, so once again, it isn't a bad loss. So to sum it up, you clearly showed how much you don't know about photography and that you're here only to hate on micro 4/3, simply because RU-vidrs love hating on it as well for little to no reason whatsoever

Whilst I love my Fujifilm X-H1, when shooting portraits with strobe, I still go back to my D800, just because an optical view finder is better than an EVF in a lower light situation (even when set up correctly) and whilst I think the X-T3 is amazing, I think the EVF will still bug me in that situation

Great comparison guys! The X-T3 seems like a winner, and a step closer to the dream of only having one camera that shoots both stills and video well. When I was younger I didn't mind investing in multiple systems, each with a different purpose. Now I just want one good camera system that does it all at a professional level, with a minimum of post-processing. I guess that's the goal of most photographers nowadays. If the XH-2 has no recording limit, improved IBIS, the focussing abilities of the T3, and a fully articulating screen, Fuji will be there. APS-C is fine by me.

Such a good video, positive way to present and instructive! As Chris and Jordan mentionned in this camera review/buying guide, every camera covered here are just awesome! Every single of them can make excellent job in landscape, sports, streets and portraits! None of them is perfect camera and it will never be. That simple fact! You can’t get the lightest equipment’s and get the biggest sensor at the same time. It is just pure physics; bigger sensor implies bigger, heavier and longer lens for the same photo/video quality achieved. 1) If you are looking for beautiful Bokeh for portrait, highest dynamic range possible, good tracking mechanism in AF-C and the highest ISO for low light without heavy noise just get a full frame camera like the Sony A7iii. The compromise here will be to get heavier, bigger and expensive lenses to carry around. Sony navigation system is not as intuitive as other and more difficult to master, the touch screen has limited use and not fully integrated, there is no flippy screen for vlogging and the IBIS is not great compare to other system. Best to use on a tripod or gamble. 2) If you like the retro camera look, with a better menu system than Sony, with really good and high quality lens selection, still cheaper and smaller than Sony Full frame, with awesome video features 4K, 10 bits, 4:2:0, good in low light capability with his APS-C sensor size, but without a flippy screen, neither good in-body image stabilization (IBIS), the handling of Fuji camera is different than other systems (better try it before buying it), just get the Fuji xt-3. The color science of Fujifilm is just amazing! One of the best hydride cameras on the market right now. 3) If your need is mostly to get the best video quality, unlimited recording time, 60 frames/sec, 4K, 10 bits with 4:2:2 internal without any crop. Get either the Panasonic GH5 or the GH5S. The GH5S is design for low light but he is lacking IBIS. The GH5 is still a capable camera, was the best hybrid camera in 2017. Weakness: ISO more than 3200/6400 might be too noisy for most users, AF-C not as effective as other system. 4) If you are looking for the best lens selection, high quality glass, awesome dynamic range, good menu system but heavier, bigger camera, no IBIS, weak video features, than get the Nikon D500. Just be aware the camera market is moving toward mirrorless camera. 5) If you are looking for an all around camera, excellent for vlogging with a flippy screen, best for travelling light weight, packed with features (80 MP for Stills using sensor shift, IBIS and OIS to shoot hand help without the need of a tripod in most case, fully touchscreen integration even for tracking subject, best and easiest menu system in the industry, largest view finder, detailed top LCD, silence mode, night mode, 4K/6K photo, focus stacking, 20 frames/sec in AF-C, best weather sealed camera on the market as long as the GH5) with a large lens selection adapted for telephoto, portrait, landscape, video with fix aperture, really fast lenses f1.2 to f2.8 for low light condition, then the micro 4/3 Panasonic G9 is a excellent choice. Weaknesses: Dynamic range is not as effective as full frame or APS-C but close enough for most users, bokeh for telephoto and portrait are not as smooth as full frame. AF-C and tracking is not as effective as other systems on fast moving subjects, but it is always improving by the manufacturer. Video quality and features not as effective as seen on other systems but still deliver a video at 4K, 60 frames, 8 bits, 4:2:0, no log. 6) If you like most of the features of the Panasonic G9 but prefer another color science, a lock focus on lenses, time laps video preview, 4K/6K photo in RAW instead of JPEG only, the Olympus OM-D EM1 mark II is and excellent choice! Weakness: Even if the EM1 mark II is using a hybrid phase/contrast auto focus system, he is not as effective for tracking subject in AF-C as the Panasonic G9 using only contrast AF. In conclusion, just get the right equipment’s for your needs and pick the one you like the most. You just can’t be wrong! The price of your camera is sure a factor to consider but mostly the cost of the system of your choice will be more on lenses. For most camera users, the micro 4/3 format (on GH5, GH5S, G9, EM1 mark II) will be more than enough to fulfill all their needs in a fun, cheaper, light weight and compact system (Micro 4/3 is always evolving). For professional or specialized work, users might prefer the highest possible quality by going full frame (like the Sony A7III) or medium format (Fuji GFX 50). Other users might just get the fair choice in between which is APS-C sensor size find on the Nikon D500, Fuji XT-3, Fuji XH1

I owned a Canon 7D mark II for some time, along with a 70D. The 7D mark II was a great camera, but I swapped mine for a Nikon D500, which in my hands was far superior in terms of AF and image quality, especially at higher ISO. I also replaced my 70D and used an Olympus EM1 mark II alongside my D500. I photograph wildlife almost exclusively and found the EM1.2 to be the best camera I have ever owned, except for higher ISO shots. My Olympus PRO lenses easily matched my Nikkor equivalents and the EM1.2 features exceeded those of my D500. Unfortunately, I live in an area where good light is at a premium and now shoot full frame Sony A7III and A7II; but if I lived in an area with open skies and good light I would stil be using a D500 and EM1.2.

Why didn't you include the GH5 in the testing ? It has a pro weather sealed body and although a better video camera than stills, it is still a great stills camera. I did the unlock ( just some button pushed for diagnostic unlock ) for my G7 and removed the 29 minute lock and can record 4K for over 3 hours on a battery. I would think the same " diagnostic mode " would be available on the G9 to unlock unlimited recording. Also, costs for each setup would be nice since price is important to most people.

Good, balanced review. Might disagree on a few small points, but wouldn't be worth the time to type it. You did a great job for a comparison. Waiting to see what Olympus will bring out this next year. The top 3 on my wish list are the OMD-EM1-II, Panasonic G9 and the Fuji is a good choice too, though I prefer the X-H1 in the Fuji line for its IBIS. Of course it all depends on what kind of photography you do. I'm retired and shoot mostly travel, landscape, seascape and street documentary now days. Because of age, and a bad knee, weight is a major factor for me, so lean towards Olympus and Panasonic, but haven't ruled out the Fuji. Video is not a major consideration, but is an occasional interest. IBIS is major consideration for me. Thanks for the great review. (FYI, been taking photos for more than 50 years, shot professionally for at least 12 of those years, mostly Naval, industrial and bio-medical work. Time was when medium format was my mainstay, but MFT really hits a size/weight/portability and printing sweet spot for me now.). Love your videos. Always entertaining and informative.

So I guess the XT-3 is king, right? Personally, IBIS has saved me so many times from blurry pictures or shaky video, I could never do without it. Same thing here. I own the em1.2 and borrowed the g9 to compare and the af is better with the pdaf in tough situation. I can trust the af with the em1.2 in situations I can't with the g9. The lens selection is bigger with the em1.2 of you consider dfd doesn't work that well with Olympus pro lenses and I generally prefer the Olympus pro lenses. Overall I prefered the em1.2 for the Ibis and colour and af. The touchscreen interface is slightly better on Panasonic. If I had to start fresh today with a g9 and Panasonic lenses or a em1.2 I would go Olympus no hesitation mostly for pdaf vs dfd.
