When living in Sonoma County California I was so blessed to attend a Plant Based seminar at Kaiser Perm. In Santa Rosa. Dr. Lim was the speaker. One of the most passionate individuals I have ever met. Joined his meeting group and loved every minute. Such valuable information and inspiration. I moved to Boise Idaho and dearly wish we had a Dr. Lim here. I greatly appreciated crossing his path. 😊
The disease of more can include food and stuff. 12 step programs address this with group support. Overeaters Anonymous has great meetings and podcasts to inform us that we are not alone. WFPB is critical to my recovery.
I think times of stress are when we need to go stronger with wfpb. I just went through a very difficult year and never altere my way of eating and exercise. I felt physically strong and my emotions soon followed. I don't have a strong support system. I just chose the best for myself when the worst hit.
Thanks so much for sharing. I went to junk food. It was a Huge mistake. Handling stress was even more difficult I am cleaning out my cupboards and fridge and starting a plant based diet.
What a fantastic journey Dr Lim has been on in his life. I agree with his learning and practical point of view he has gained in his experiences in his association with The McDougall and True North programs. The number of patients he has and continues to help has given him true insight on how to embrace a WFPB lifestyle along with coping with and learning to work with other life aspects ie stress, sleep, exercise, and community (spirituality) Rip said exactly what I would have said, Dr Lim is a gem of a human being.
"an unhealthy diet is often symptomatic of some underlying deeper issues". Such wise words!! Let's start looking at our diets of symptoms of underlying causes and ask, "what's really doing on here?". Such a great interview.
24:12 or thereabouts is the first time I've heard anyone in wfpb talk about knowledge vs emotional eating. Even Dr. Lisle stops short of addressing it. All I've ever heard is that the food industry influences and practices interfere with commitment. Certainly that is true, but the fact that I know what to do, but often my commitment slips as I shop is on me, and I need to overcome that life long problem. Thank you Dr. Lim.
@@eileenmcgovern9193 This helps greatly. I do it and also avoid commercials, which has food commercials. Avoiding media and commercials is probably not what most people do, but I think it helps.
I loved the interview! What, however, I would like to hear is how to keep plantstrong while working 24hr shifts as a medic. Trust me, it is not easy...lol
Canned beans, packaged greens and salads, cooked grains if you own an instant pot this takes barely few minutes. Drizzle some balsamic vinegar on top. If you are willing to forgo hyper palatable tastes and recipe variety, you can do it. Pack your lunch to work.
I work with a guy who does 12 hr shifts and he brings a large Igloo cooler to work. Large, largest “lunchbox” I’ve ver seen someone use. Batch cooking helps.
I love this interview! I wish true north would do telehealth fasting. But this doctor is so real...and he is inspiring. I appreciate your channel so much.
Dr. Lim supports the Mcdougall program and I am on his Starch Solution diet. I revere both of these doctors and fixed my high cholesterol on the diet, 5 years ago at the age of 48. I had high blood pressure and was on medication but with doctor supervision came off. My weight was high and now is normal and has been since I started 5 years ago. My blood pressure was just measured when giving blood, at 115/85. It is considered 'pre-hypertension' and I am a perfectionist so I continue to take action such as steady exercise. I can cut the salt which I added when I started eating more bread. Bread flour is cheaper than whole wheat pasta, calorie for calorie, and while money is not a huge deal I pride myself on spending a low amount on food. I have good, strong legs after doing 100 reverse lunges every 2 days on average, for over a month and will continue. We *can* be strong on plants exclusively. My biggest challenge is salt making foods super tasty, and also, linguine is addictive. I'm best without salt but I need it for bread.
Excellent interview Rip!!! I admire the work that TrueNorth Health Center & Dr. McDougall Health & Medical Center are doing here in Sonoma County. Love Dr. Lim's down to earth personality, and enjoyed hearing his back story.
Don't know if this will get through but Dr Anthony Lim I like you. You are an easy going guy and the only one I have seen so far to be so open. Some of that is probably your circumstances but there's more to it than that, I don't believe that other than that ex dairy guy everyone else never were mistaken. You also are the most empathetic about not having to be perfect and understand the concept of harm minimisation which unfortunately is rare in the US. Best of luck sir, you will save or prolong the healthy lives of many people. I am an omnivore , tobacco smoker and alcoholic but my diet is getting better. I can't foresee my not being alcoholic or a smoker but maybe even though contradictory I could be vegetarian or flexitarian , I have always had a low added sugar and mostly low fat diet.
Hey Ive struggled with alcohol over the years. Mostly, in my younger years, worked with and hung out with guys who drank alot. Ive tried most every approach and read a lot. What ive discovered is most who are successful, do it on their own, for themselves, and not everyone abstains completely. Personal relations or emotional trauma can be a kick starter, but personal education is key. I still drink every couple of months on special occasions but waking up clear every day is so awesome. I know its a bumpy road but good luck in your journey.
