I was hospitalized for a surgery and was talking to an older RN and we were discussing diets. I brought up Paleo/Keto and suggested how it remedies many afflictions. I posed the question to her why the medical profession doesn't investigate the possibility of Paleo/Keto. She leaned over, smiled and said: "Honey, there is no profit in cure."

Healthcare as we know is sick care. Prior to my qualifying for medicare, my Cadillac care insurance coverage, although I had been overweight for years, did not cover any wellness care related to exercise, diet and nutrition. @@pegboyd4312 I had an endocrinologist (who I was hoping would handle my TRT) take a look at my bloodwork after 6 months of low carb and IF. Despite the fact that my trigycerides had gone down fom 162 to 70, my fasting insulin had dropped to 4.1, my HDL doubled to 60, and my fasting glucose was near 95... she immediately "threatened" me with statins if I didn't stop eating the way I was. My blood pressure drugs were cut in half. Now I am off Atenenol and Lisinopril completely. My BP is excellent. I feel a lot younger than my age. I was even motivated to start gym 4 to 5 days a week. I tried Atkins (Keto) so many times. I got a great start and then I found that the carbs I ate made me want more of them. On carnivore, I never even think about the carbs. I just find any carbs a gateway drug to more and more cheat days, etc. I feel great on Carnivore and things are finally working. I am noticing really weird things, too. Better Urine flow, no brain fog, no swollen ankles after working, absolutely no indigestion, losing my gut, etc.! I am hoping to get off of CPAP someday! I also went back to working nights and am tolerating them so much better than I did 20 years ago.

I’m 80 yrs old started Trulicity 3 months ago. I am a retired doctor. At age 80 I have normally lost muscle that I try to fight with exercise. I have just started adding protein supplement to help with the muscle loss that accompanies my weight loss. My A1C has dropped from 7.4 to 6.3. I have modified my diet to far less carbs. Weight loss from 167 lbs to 154 lbs. I am fighting a general weakness when it comes to walking more than 2 miles daily.
@mericummings7817
@mericummings7817 10 месяцев назад
Not being able to walk 2 miles doesn’t seem like normal muscle loss (unless the 2-mile walk are hills, which always kill me). Was this your condition BEFORE you started taking Trulicity? (I’m not a doctor, but am researching the keto & carnivore diets, and am suspicious of all the side-effects of prescription drugs). Best wishes on your journey of increasing your proteins to help restore your muscle loss! ❤
@LauraB.335

This is not medical advice, as I am not a doctor. This is just what I would do: stop taking Trulicity, lower carbs enough to get into ketosis, eat plenty of red, fatty meat and stop taking a protein supplement, and implement a shorter eating window, based on what you do today (if you eat within 12 hours currently, shorten the window to 10 hours, then 8, then 6). I may also put walking on hold until I felt better, depending on what I was inspired to do. I would also eventually add lifting weights when in a fasted state.

You don’t have to walk more than 2 miles at a time. I walk 4 miles at a time and admit it can get boring. I am NOT a doctor, but you mentioned general weakness. I believe muscle weakness is a side effect of statins. Are you taking any? I like doing Leslie Sansone’s Walk-at-home exercise dvds (1 has 1-, 2- and 3-mile walks) which also include very easy arm and leg exercises, introducing some light weights (e.g., such as water bottles). Best wishes. 😊

I am 95% keto/ketovore/low carb but I fall off (like so many of us do!!! ) usually at the weekend with friends or I’ll get a craving despite being a long term Keto member. I found low carb beer at least and many people enable the weekend break or just a meal or day even. I just find this last part the most difficult. I’m a wanderer and traveler. There is food everywhere here in Taiwan 🇹🇼 and I mostly resist. But I’d finally like to get past this last 5%. An episode on dealing with this would be awesome and I think for those who have been on the journey for a long time, it could be useful for us as we already know what to do and need the next level work. Hard to explain, so thanks for reading. Any help us appreciated and this tribe is awesome!

I agree this is a great idea for a video. It’s hard to be 100% on everyday for years. I think a lot of longterm ketoers go off plan sometimes. After losing 90 pounds on keto I went off keto for a meal and felt so guilty. I stayed off and gained 30 pounds back. I’m back on now but disappointed I gained some back. In contrast, I have a friend that lost a bunch of weight on keto and has regular off plan meals (maybe monthly). He has maintained weight loss and keto longer than I have. I think giving himself the freedom to eat nonketo foods every now and then without feeling guilty might be the key to longterm maintenance

I have bn keto since learning from Dr Berry and Dr Westman... almost 5yrs now. I take a low carb/keto for a medical centre's groups of pre-diabetic patients. I'm a retired RN but they still ask me to do this for them. I do it for free due to wanting to help. U both have a far reaching impact to us here in New Zealand. Thanku soo very much ❤

It’s nice to hear that studies are being done on Heart Failure /keto . I’ve been Ketovore for 5 months. Having cake only on my birthday/anniversary (I need to stop that ) . I’m working on reversing congestive heart failure /non-ischemic cardiomyopathy with an extremely low Ejection fraction & a Left bundle branch block. Hopefully it goes well

see Ben Bickman's vids on insulin resistance. That is the ultimate cause of many major diseases.

I'm trying to reverse CHF too. Praying this will improve my ejection faction and fatigue.
