Just bought HRD to use with a Xiegu G90 (running IC 7100 on HRD). There is so much this set of tools can do that its going to be a long time before I even understand its capabilities fully. Having said that, before I purchased, I sent an email asking a question and got a reply within hours. Based on that experience alone, I decided to purchase just about the same time they offered a discounted sale price (win/win!!!) Everything I have tried to do with it worked "straight out of the box". Getting LOTW and QRZ logging and lookups was easy and straightforward. WSJTX and other multicasting triggers worked perfectly for logging and interfaced perfectly with rig control module. So, overall, I am extremely pleased with it ease of use, and setup. This is software I will be learning more about and getting more value from it as time goes on. It was a hell of good price for all you get and is a powerful tool even if you just use it for lookup and logging. Thank you for a great product at a great price. You have been very responsive not only by the extensive manual and support options, but with online videos going through setups and useage. I look forward to HRD supporting the Xiegu G90 directly instead of "subbing" another model for it, and have heard they are planning to do so in the future. In the meantime, it seems to work just fine doing the sub with an IC 7100 in the setup.

Yeah, I'm told that the Kenwood TS-480 (or something like that) works for the Xeigu G90. If that were true, we would only be putting a choice there for the G90 and hitting the TS-480 commands "under the hood." I've got a G90 back in Texas... can't get my hands on it right now. But we do want to improve our support there.

Much improved communication method, weekly maybe. Would be great to see a much more smooth DM780. Clunky as when originally made. You've concentrated on Logbook but Mayne look at the market of what's popular. IF the original radio control works, where is radio popular? Just look at the SDR panadapter every night. I started using HRD earlier this year. Initially, I used the standard MS-Access database. Then I switched to Maria DB. However, since I use multiple computers and often operate from campgrounds or parks, I switched back to Access as I can easily sync across multiple computers with a file-based database.
@HamRadioDeluxe
@HamRadioDeluxe Год назад
I'd also like to come up with a say to sync databases when multiple machines can't be connected simultaneously to the same database. We'll do that eventually. But we've got many "multi-multi" club stations that use MariaDB for this exact reason.

Got HRD earlier this year. Works great. Only had one issue a couple of months ago where the program refused to upgrade, so i reinstalled the original software. I waited a month figuring there was some bug, and then successfully upgraded after that. No issues. I also started doing Full backups of my Windows machine. Now Im not so “afraid” lol. Looking forward to a mac version as my Windows 10 machine is not upgradable to Win11. Additionally I wanted to try the digital software you offer and have been having fun. Is there a group of folks who dabble in some of the different modes like Domino ? So many different modes out there to explore. Thanks for the video, that beer looks great !!

@@HamRadioDeluxe My workstation is not upgradable to 11. Plus i don’t want all the intrusiveness of Microsoft. I think the software is reliable but don’t use their browser. I use Vivaldi. They try to force you to use Edge. If Microsoft could give people choices. Computer nerds like me like their desktops and don’t mind upgrades to the operating system but it can be annoying when they force their desktop design on you. Like I have muscle memory using it, and they go and change the file explorer the way it looks. I hold off on Major System upgrades. Love HRD. Its reliable and works great EVERY-TIME. I have tried using other software like HRD and it was difficult getting 5 programs running and talking to each other. It was like taking a college course in Networking & Ports lol. Frustrating. But HRD is always ready to go. :)

I enjoyed the new video i am not sure that my system is being used to the max. No interconnection to change bands on alert or rotator or cluster. I have had HRD from the start and it soooooo much better. I really cannot find a better logging/controlling software. Yes Alert is really good DM780 and rotator modules can be improved. 1. rotator control works when clicking on the map for direction but the meter doesn't move like it did several upgrades ago. DM 780 has errors in the decoding CW and some problems with RX audio USB codex not working all the time. (usb codex works with WSJT) I will not stop using HRD buy would like a better understanding of all the module working together thanks, keep up the good work

I like the concept of seeing who is behind the software and what is happening now and in the future. Don't waste our time with your drinking habits. It is unnecessary fill and adds nothing to the content. Personally I have been wanting an integrated contest logging software program that has been alluded to as in the works for years. I am sure others will welcome this as well because right now HRD is not a workable contest logger as you have continually recognised. When? By the way thanks for HRD.

Great video. I have a few questions: 1. I use MariaDB for my log. How will SQLite play with that? Will it overwrite/replace, or will it leave MariaDB in place? 2. You talked about the Mapper. Will it be redesigned to pull log data from MariaDB/SQLite? 3. I know you've had this question before, but any plan to fork to Linux? Thanks for the wonderful product. I've been a customer/user for years! De NV4C
@HamRadioDeluxe
@HamRadioDeluxe Год назад
If you want to use MariaDB... then there's literally "no Access database to convert." You're good to go. Mapper is going to do LOTS of things. But yes... it will pull data from the log, it will display lots of other data sources... etc. But some of the change we make to Mapper will be released as a Feature. We still plan to have a version for Linux... but we still have work to do to unload Windows specific code.

@Embarking-on-a-new-adventure
Add WSJT-X to DM780 (like SDR Control has done).
@HamRadioDeluxe
@HamRadioDeluxe Год назад
Thanks for the question. We get that rather often. As it stands, we would be forced to publish our source code if we added WSJT-X modes into DM-780. Specifically, Dr. Taylor has pointed out - "GPLv3 guarantees end users the freedom to run, study, and modify the software, so long as the same licensing terms are extended to any new software derived from or dependent upon our source code." So we're looking at ways around this. But we can't do it if we would have to pulish our source code. Also, see here: support.hamradiodeluxe.com/a/solutions/articles/51000309502
@Embarking-on-a-new-adventure
@@HamRadioDeluxe I think Marcus Roskosch made his own version of WSJT (remember to have read it) as I can not imagine with Apple it is open source. But maybe add JS8CALL?
@HamRadioDeluxe
@HamRadioDeluxe Год назад
@@Embarking-on-a-new-adventure The idea of trying to write our own version of WSJT-X, adhering to the terms of the license (which extend to the use of the words "FT8" and "FT4"), makes it nearly impossible to imagine keeping up. They are updating the protocol often and adding new ones. It's not feasible to keep up with them. The only way we can do it is by making use of their existing code. Therein lies the problem related to the GPLv3 licensing terms. This also protects the "look 'n feel" of WSJT-X. It makes it nearly impossible to produce code that's going to be sold without handing out the source code.
