Anyone reading this, please understand that, while i do support this way to detox, it does little to none helping addiction, since you can relapse in months after evrrything is "fine". The most important is to change your life rutines, get education, get out of a toxic relationship etc. and have a support group that will keep you on the right path. Otherwise you just do a circle back to square one.

Hi Jurij Puc -- We couldn't agree with you more. Withdrawal management, or 'detox,' is just the first step. That's a major reason why our program includes 6 months of supportive case management services and naltrexone therapy. It takes time for the brain to heal and habits to change. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

I will say this: i had to do a 4 month probation violation and had to go cold turkey as the Federal prison doesn't do suboxone, however, on the 4th month I still felt like my initial 48 hours in.. my whole incarceration was spent wishing for death. I believe suboxone and similar synthetic opioids are like boutique heroine, (which I've never done) its a much longer bind and pathway to the receptor. Having gone cold turkey off Methadone, liquid morphine, (Roxinol) oxy's etc, suboxone was by far the worst and I've spoken to former heroine addicts who agree wholeheartedly. - Surry Virginia

I've been on methadone for over ten years and it has been a Godsend, my life has went from being a homeless heroin addict to having my own place and supporting myself. Early in my recovery I was booted off of this one MMT clinic for not being able to afford it. This is while I was still homeless. The clinic had this horrible procedure called the 21 day detox for people who couldn't pay their monthly dues. I was expected to successfully taper off of 120mgs of methadone in 21 days but they messed up and didn't start the taper until the 5th day so I had 16 days to do this (I didn't know cause during this "detox" they blind dose you so you don't know what dose you're at). In short, it absolutely did not work, I proceeded to go through the most agonizing experience of my life. The full withdrawal felt like it hit while I was still tapering and continued to get worse each day for the next month and a half, mind you I was homeless and completely broke so even if I wanted to relapse I couldn't, but I truly tried as hard as I could to tough it out and after about 45 days of being in hell I was able to get some heroin. The scariest part about this and the reason I wanted to share this here is because I always heard that withdrawal with short acting opiates takes 3 to 7 days, longer acting ones like methadone would be longer, like double that, so 2 weeks... after 45 days I felt a hundred times worse than the first week off the clinic. It wasn't the withdrawal that's "like the flu" you always hear about, it wasn't anything like being dope sick from heroin. It was torture. Nowadays I'm doing great, but there's the constant thought in the back of my head, what if I somehow lose my meds or get booted off the program. I only have to go once a month, my life is normal for the most part. But what if I lose my methadone.. it's a terrifying thought.
@Icantwithyou9
@Icantwithyou9 2 года назад
That's one of the reasons why I want off. I've been 6 days today off of 65mg methadone. I would only dose every 2 days but it's still kicking my ass that's how I "tapered". I feel a little bit. Better but the cold sweat's are the worse..

It's not possible to come off of an opiate or and opioid without suffering what this doctor described is just replacing an opiate for an opioid regiment. The best that you can do is to minimize the suffering by tapering but at the end of the day a price must be paid to reach homeostasis you are going to have to feel uncomfortable while your brain upregulates its natural neurotransmitters that it has not had to produce because of the opiate you have been using to replace them.

@WireWeHere

There are some patients who have great difficulty adjusting to a lower opioid dose. They experience withdrawal continuously for much longer periods than expected. One patient used Buprenorphine Hydrochloride to detox to zero then remained bedridden in withdrawal for five months without improvement. He restarted opioids and became productive and maintained a stable dosage for eleven years. A forced taper to 40% of dosage eight years ago resulted in the same bedridden existence with withdrawal symptoms persisting to April of 2022 and beyond. Low IGF-1 indicating a possibility of low growth hormone has been the only abnormality that may offer treatment suggestions however no connection has been found with how Opioid receptors reset. I have found four examples and all four developed chronic pain following a traumatic brain injury that was from a back of head deceleration. The pituitary stalk does not appear well equipped for these types of impact events.

this video needs a LOT more views and attention. I wouldn't recommend staying on naltrexon or suboxone person experience I'll admit i went in to psychosis and i'll probably never be able to fully get clean. As addicts we know we are powerless and are hard on ourselves. Without a higher power of some sort or a strong support system there won't be much success because without a plan you'll end up right back where you were. I've gotten completely clean a few times and within a month it's like I blink and boom I'm thinking about suboxone. Rationalizing the fact it's to "get you off" of opiates and maintanence etc. Yup.
@jeffhucle6436
@jeffhucle6436 3 года назад
Detox is a misnomer. The opioid addiction recovery process has nothing to do with some sort of toxicity level and everything to do with regaining a natural equilibrium. Your brain your nervous system and endocrine system have all been altered to where they have to be re educated on how to function without the opioids. Prolonged opioid exposure profoundly alters these systems rendering them almost inoperable without some sort chemical assistance. These systems regulate pretty much every body function as well as mental stability. It's not even a healing process which the body is familiar with. It's far more complex. Good luck to all those who try this but never get discouraged to the point of giving up. It could take much longer than anticipated and it's sad society does not want to accept this.

What about an induced coma for 10-14 days? Let the body detox naturally but the patient can be unconscious the whole time? I understand that would be expensive and would probably need ICU level care, but wouldn’t that be the safest and least uncomfortable way for patients instead of the ultra rapid detox and the Coleman Method where you are still introducing “comfort drugs”? So instead of using other drugs and naltrexone to force detox and then giving comfort meds, just let the body do it slowly over that time naturally and keep the patient induced in a coma and when they wake up they shouldn’t be in any withdrawals and Vivitrol or naltrexone can be used to prevent relapse at that point.
@thecolemaninstituteforaddi6234
@thecolemaninstituteforaddi6234 3 года назад
You are right on - a 10-14 day coma would work quite well. But there are side effects with any detox method - cost, danger of being on a ventilator, dehydration, malnutrition, etc. The truth is that for most patients, our detox works so well that we don't have to go to those extraordinary lengths. Very safe and very comfortable and Anthem BXBS are so happy with our results that they cover the detox and 6 months of follow up naltrexone - Dr Coleman

@thecolemaninstituteforaddi6234 3 года назад
Chronic pain is a tricky problem. Opioids are great painkillers for short term use but very quickly the brain and the body get used to them - so patients get dependent and after a while patients are often actually in more pain - what is called opioid induced hyperalgesia (OIH). Almost all the patients who come to us for detox find their pain is less after the detox - often within the first week. They are amazed - but each situation is different and you would need to talk with your doctor.
@diaryofarealmom3264
@diaryofarealmom3264 2 года назад
You realize the opioids make the pain worse and worse over time because as you build tolerance you need more opioids. The opioids trick your receptors to tell you you are in more pain than you are so you take more opioids.

Hi Nick--Self-detoxing off opiates IS incredibly hard. Please don't lose hope. Look for the right form of Medication-Assisted Treatment for you, whether that is buprenorphine, methadone, or naltrexone. We've helped over 8,000 people through the withdrawal process and onto the non-addictive opiate blocker, naltrexone, over the last 20 years. We use tiny doses of naltrexone to speed up the withdrawal process without precipitating full withdrawal. We also customize a set of comfort medications to help manage any symptoms that do appear. When we've surveyed our patients, most of them report that their detox using the Coleman Method was easier and more comfortable that other approaches they have tried. Best wishes!

Sedatives dont help me sleep while in withdrawal. I once took 10 Ambien (no one should EVER do this) and still couldnt sleep due to RLS. That was on day 10!! Doctors dont realize that even short acting Opiates like Oxy have a 30 day detox period, not a 7-10 day. It took 30 days of hell before I got 1 hour of sleep. Then after 45 days I was getting 3-4 hours of sleep. After 90 days I was sleeping almost a full night. Sleep is the #1 problem with Opiate withdrawal and is what causes most to relapse. I will have to go back out in the real world again and the thought of leaving home scares me to tears I don't wanna use again but I still don't think I'm strong enough to say no or first chance I get go find it. I've made such progress but is it all for nothing if I can't even leave home without the fear of failure?

Don’t lose hope, RogueRodent 110! One powerful tool that helps many people in your situation is long-acting naltrexone (e.g. Vivitrol or a naltrexone implant). As a non-addictive opioid blocker, naltrexone reduces cravings and helps prevent relapse. You’re right to be mindful about who you choose to associate with and to be mindful of settings where you might put your hard-fought recovery at risk. Best wishes!

As you probably already know what I'm talking about. So yes. Stick to just maintaining the bear minimum of M.done. don't necessarily take what ure doc gives or prescribes you for more than the withdrawal period. Stick to maintaining with " as little " as possible to feel okay. But do maintain. And continue weening fff the M.done aswell. Till you feel you areat bear minimum. And then stay there for a while. Remember. Don't suddenly do anything. Not popular advice I know. But deeper reasoning. P.s if you don't understand what I mean . Do not assume you do. Speak to a professional.

What medical problems did the original pts experience after the anesthesia treatment? Wouldn't the anesthesia cause the pts to vomit considering the side effects of anesthesia mixed with the withdrawal symptoms of opioids Asphyxiation happens so quickly, the moments between a nurse walking in and out of a pts room could be cause of a mortality, even with medication. How do you counteract this inevitable reaction?

Hi Kevin-Great questions. No, we don’t use anesthesia in any of our detox procedures today, and haven’t for almost 20 years. When we did use that method, we did so in a hospital so patients were under constant observation. The Coleman Method is a dramatic improvement on Ultra Rapid Opioid Detoxification / Anesthesia Detox / Sedation Detox because it avoids the dangers of anesthesia but is still comfortable enough that almost all patients complete the detox (98%) and are inducted onto long-acting naltrexone. Naltrexone is a non-addictive opioid blocker that reduces cravings and helps prevent relapse. Best wishes to you!

Hi Crixus the Norman--We have developed an 8-day outpatient detox specifically to help folks transition from buprenorphine or methadone over to long-acting formulations of naltrexone. We've helped hundreds of people through this process and made a lot of improvements along the way. We use small doses of naltrexone to speed up the withdrawal process without precipitating full withdrawal. We also customize a set of comfort medications to help manage any symptoms that do appear. When we've surveyed our patients, most of them report that their detox using the Coleman Method was easier and more comfortable that other approaches they have tried. Hope that helps!

What I have a hard time wrapping my mind around is that Suboxone for example, the drug I've been on for 6 years now, is a very long standing drug meaning it stays in your system for longer than most other drugs and therefore the detox process is long and painful of course and I'm not even talking about cold turkey, I'm talking a slow detox! So how on earth do they get the drug out of your brain and all of that within days without me as the patient being in horrible withdrawals for weeks??? because no matter what you read online the withdrawals do not only last for 7-10 days and they're not worst on those days. These withdrawals last for at least a month and it is excruciating pain for all of those weeks if you're doing it cold turkey like this clinic is clearly doing it!

Hi Anna I totally agree with what you are saying but in about 2004 I was in a very strict rehabilitation centre and at the time I was on about 80ml of methadone and injecting about at least a gram of smack at the same time but they did a rapid detox of about 10ml the 5 ml per day reduction plus giving me some type of blood pressure tablet that lowered the blood pressure. It didn't really take the pain away but made two weeks feel like a few days and I don't know why when I came of those B P I felt as high as a kite one day but the day after started to feel better. So I'm saying I once did a straight detox from 90ml of methadone plus heroin and I was in pain for a few months but the blood pressure medication method 2 to 3 weeks I was fine. Just thought I'd tell my experience to others maybe it help someone.

I have a benign tumor on my palm and near the rectum that causes extreme pain it’s very unusual they have biopsied it and they know it’s not cancer. It took me 30 mg of methadone to control the pain. I tried many other drugs none of them were successful like methadone. Because the long half-life methadone has actually been a lifesaver for me. But I always worry about forgetting it if I go on a trip or what if I couldn’t get it would if there was some kind of civil unrest and I couldn’t get it that really worries me. I have come off of it completely and the pain returned and it was so bad I can’t work I can’t do chores I can’t do anything. They can’t remove the tumor well they can they think but I’ll have to have a colostomy bag. And I’m only 55. The colorectal surgeon and the urologist both told me they would refuse to do the operation. My pain management doctor told me even if they did do the operation and I had a colostomy bag there’s no guarantee the pain will go away. That really surprise me I thought if they remove the tumor the pain would be gone. Either way I would rather take the methadone then have a class to me bag it allows me to leave a 100% normal life. But again I just fear what happens if I can’t get it. One thing I didn’t understand from this video as do they put people to sleep during this or do they just give you little bits of naloxanon

Methadone and Suboxone are much worse. Our detox process seems to decrease the post-acute withdrawal symptoms because we use microdoses of naltrexone that start the brain producing its natural endorphins again more quickly. What's a pain patient of 26 years supposed to do? I have been on Fentanyl patches for about 8 years. The pain is so excruciating that I can't even move to get to the bathroom. I hold my pee for hours. My Doctor moved 5 hours away. I've been bedridden for 4 years except to take a medical ride to my doctor. I was on diludid for breakthrough pain 8mg 5 times a day. I came off of that. I don't know who to call or what to do. I was to the point I was having to reschedule my pain doctor appointments because I couldn't get ready, with the meds. I don't want to end up a suicide statistic. I fought that many times. I have children and now grandchildren. I want to live but I can't take the pain. I have a son with problems who needs me. I had 16 abdominal surgeries. The 12th damaged me to the point I couldn't work. My neck went out while I was in bed for 8 months in the beginning. I guess it's due to 5 car accidents, none that I was driving. My spine is a mess. I was diagnosed with a brain Malformation that was bleeding. It killed my father. I had 6 bleeds, God was with me I was lucky to live. I have Addisons disease, osteoarthritis, degenerative arthritis, osteoporosis very severe in my feet. They took an x-ray and called me at home and told me they had never seen such a bad case. That's why I have a terrible time walking now. My question is what's a pain patient suppose to do? I take Gabepentin 800 MG. That didn't touch my nerve pain by itself without pain meds. Now opioids for pain are a big no-no. They gave me back some sort of life. I could be a mom again. I never abused my meds. EVER.

Hi Bettina--Chronic pain is a tricky problem.

@@spinoslayer4714 Subs felt like a miracle in the beginning but after a year of being on it I felt utterly depressed. It's like it destroyed my ability to be happy. I quit having highs and lows like a normal person and just felt under the weather 24/7. It took my libido away and everything. I hear a lot of people gain weight but it did the opposite to me. I actually lost weight and I was already a thin guy and I couldn't gain anything back. I stalked up on Kratom and used it after weening myself down to 2 mg a day. I couldn't drop any further. I tried and tried but just felt like I was in a constant withdrawal for months on end. Kratom helped me get off sub with minimal withdrawal but sadly it kind of replaced it to where I take it daily and your tolerance goes up extremely quick. The wd's from it aren't near as bad though. Subs were an excruciatingly long withdrawal so using Kratom to stop them did feel like it was making a difference and healing my brain in the process. I remember taking like 4 mg of Sub after not having it for a couple of months and really felt it so I knew the Kratom was definitely helping repair my receptors.

Hi, I would really appreciate a rapid response; I do have my doctor to reference as well but I usually get very short answers. I was on Morphine sulfate 30mg 2x daily and Hydromorphone 4mg 4x daily. I stopped the MS and was switched to Xtampza ER 18mg- The first day went okay, Second day at night had heart palpatations and rapid pulse, checked into the ER and EKG was fine, given colonidine to lower blood pressure. I am done with opioids for my pain management. But want to taper safely and correctly. I now have colonidine 2x daily and the hydromorphone; What would be the best, fastest, safest way to ease myself off of this medication with the colonidine or is there anything else I should request from my doctor? As for the time frame- Two days ago last MS 30mg---30 hours ago since last Xtampza ER- 18mg

@thecolemaninstituteforaddi6234
@thecolemaninstituteforaddi6234 3 года назад
Hi Jean-Charles-Thanks for your question. Everyone detoxing off of opioids should expect some degree of Post-Acute Withdrawal Symptoms (PAWS). It varies a good bit between individuals, and methadone and buprenorphine are much worse. Our detox process, which has been performed over 7500 times now, seems to reduce PAWS because we use micro-doses of naltrexone that start the brain producing natural endorphins again more quickly. Our practitioners all stay in close contact with patients so that we can provide support if there are any Post-Acute Withdrawal Symptoms. Best wishes to you!
@stevensonjc21
@stevensonjc21 3 года назад
@@thecolemaninstituteforaddi6234 thank you for replying. Let me first start out by apoligizing for calling what you do a farce. With 7500 helped, clearly many find it beneficial. As an IV opiate addict whose run the gambit of rehab, rabid detoxes, south american ayahuasca as well as ketamine and mdma trials - i have found that many times the 7-10 day period of the most acute withdrawls are addressed but the intense cravings, PAWS, lingering feelings of worthlessness as well the lack of addressing the issue of proximity to drugs and the lifestyle itself. Granted, the latter tends to be a ME issue and not the facilities. However, i worry if after a 5, 7 or 10 day stay with rapid detox and even a vivitrol or suboxone script is ultimately a failure if not done in conjunction with intense psychotherapy and perhaps even a merging of NA meetings and a sponser.

Question good sir. What are your thoughts of iboga, or ibogain? I've seen clinical trials outside of the US and it seems to be a good, fast acting detox option. I know some people think, "an exotic psychedelic substance to get clean? Yeah right?" But it has results. 24 hours and cravings, withdrawal gone! The US won't utilize it, in my opinion cause it will cost more than classical methadone and bup. Thank you

Unfortunetly my story can't come from my own personal experience but my brother a few years back after months of research and planning used iboga as his treatment method. His background was heavy oxy user for years then heroin for years after that (once oxy became financially a worser choice then hammer is because of supply). Then when finally seemed like bupe was the journey to getting clean spent years stuck on bupe. From a very basic before and after standpoint the iboga although in the short term the hardest thing he'd ever gone through did 100% work for him as if it was a miracle drug. However he went through an extreme detail to planning his lead up to using the iboga and was at a very strong mindset going into it. So all the conditions were primed for the best chance at having a successful detox situation. Im not sure how easy research on iboga is for opiates these days but back then there wasn't much for me to go off and most experts in the field id ask about it would seem to see it as a waste of time. Something that too this day I'm still puzzled about is my brothers experience genuinly was an outcome that was too good to be true where it makes no sense that there really doesnt seem to be much talk about it still both in online forums and professional circles. Surly if his reaction was common more people would be doing it and reporting back there experiences. This is why although I want to say Iboga seems like a very powerful option for treatment I keep heavy reserve into the state and mindset he was in going into using the Iboga for detox must've played a very big part to the experience. I see it as the personality:treatment:mentalstate:placebo ratio was at the right levels which have a part to play in any method when trying to get clean

Does the low dose naltrexone on the first two days just cause slight precipitated withdrawal for a short period of time to speed up the procees a bit? Also, how do you finish the withdrawal process on the 3rd day? Wouldn't naltrexone cause precipitated withdrawal as long as there are still opioids on your receptors since it's an antagonist? No, it’s not as bad as precipitated withdrawal from subs and you are sedated so you don’t feel it. You might have moments of lucidity to throw up or have diarrhea but not enough to feel the detox. I’ve done this program twice. It’s amazing.

I’m on day 5 of oxy detox but have an important meeting for court if I use once (so I can function in the meeting) will that set me back another 7 days?

No 1 day of using won't put you back another 7 days. You should find the shortest acting opiate and get hooked on that first for a few days. It'll be easier to quit a shorter acting opiate then long lasting one like Suboxone. Methadone I was fine in 3 days (somehow) I'm quitting hydromorphone now and on day 2. Using A little Suboxone to.
