Today we recorded a follow up Q & A Episode with the brilliant Dr. Elizabeth Bright
After my long rambling intro as these are HUGE topics near and dear to my personal journey... here is the big list of our questions we dive into today:
1. What to do is test with high cortisol vs. low cortisol + low thyroid?
2. Who needs iodine? Why? How much?
3. Butter… what are the benefits
4. Do we need to do fasting for cell autophagy?
5. Do we need to be in nutritional ketosis? How long?
6. I have amenorrhea. How much fat should I eat? I can’t eat butter because I have a leaky gut and butter gives me indigestion and my stomach bloats. What fat is best for me?
7. Why in carnivore can triglycerides rise?
8. I have been doing high fat carnivores for a year now. My hormones have gotten so much better. I am sleeping great, and sex isn’t painful anymore. I am still having trouble building muscle and my skin is a little creepy. Lost skin and muscle tone after a few years is chronic stress.
a. Is it possible to tighten the skin and what do you suggest I do to build muscle?
b. I lift weights 2-3 x week and no more cardio: just movement.
9. What are the clearest tests for checking hormones if weight loss is a challenge?
a. How long on carnivore should one give to start experience changes in hormone balance?
b. What role does cortisol play in hormone balance particularly when weight loss is an issue?
c. What is the ideal balance of high fat/low carb eating, fasting or not fasting, weight training act for women in their 40s?
10. Zero carb for too long spiking cortisol… some people have suggested tactical carb intake before and during cycle as well as Sally Norton suggestion the combination of oxalate dumping along with zero carb might trigger a cortisol issue and suggesting similar.
11. Is it normal problem for large weight fluctuations? At 24 BMI now and can’t seem to hold it there or get the last 10 lbs. off at age 62
12. Fasted workouts -resistance training yes or no?
13. If I have a sluggish liver and gallbladder - along with Hashimoto’s, what is recommended in order to have high fat diet?
14. I am finding it very difficult to lose weight in peri menopause and actually gaining weight. Am I eating too much fat? Too many calories? What is good amount of fat during this phase? I recently heard women on another podcast say she ate less fat. I just started working out (strength training) but that scale won’t budge. Thank you.
15. I have been on carnivore for a few months now. I recently let go of dairy which I really enjoyed because I wasn’t feeling well but not I am noticing that I am losing interest in my food and getting very bored with it. I loved nuts which I consumed while on keto. Although, I know they are not carnivore what are your thoughts on incorporating them into the diet and how would they possibly affect me (nuts).

1. Menopause. Why do we go through it? How can we enjoy this time of life? There 45*/is a plethora of confusing and misleading information out there about menopause: what to take, what to eat. Women may begin to wonder: is there something wrong with our bodies? And if menopause is natural, why do doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and the media recommend so much medication to treat menopausal symptoms?
2. The last sixty years of dietary advice, warning women to avoid fat, have actually worsened women’s health.
3. If you’re approaching menopause, in menopause, or are interested in improving your health naturally, here is a book that explains the history of menopause, the evolutionary benefits of this life event, and how to eat the right foods to help you enjoy what should be the longest and most fulfilling part of your life.
4. This book is the first of a three-book series that shows how important eating good fat is for a woman’s health at every stage of her life.

I've been consulting with Dr. Bright since March and she is the only doctor who has been able to help me with a wretched chronic skin condition that is now resolved. I'm still following her protocol to fix the source of the skin issues, including iodine and thyroid/adrenal supplements, but I feel terrific. Dr. Bright is a true healer. I'm 67.

How often do you talk with her?
@TerriblePerfection
@TerriblePerfection Год назад
@@barb987 It depends on your individual needs. EB wanted to see a thyroid panel and cortisol test, so I had to arrange those. Then she created a protocol based on the results. Then I started the supplements and we spoke about 6 weeks after that. Then more tests for comparison, etc. I have what I think will be our last meeting next week. I hope so because I don't like seeing the local doctor for the tests, but I appreciate that EB takes them into consideration. By the way, after the first thyroid test, which indicated numbers outside of the ranges considered normal, the local doctor said that "we can just keep an eye on them." EB was appalled, that a doctor sees a problem but doesn't attempt to intervene until it's critical, requiring life-long drugs or even surgery to remove the organ. Medicine is so broken! ☹️

I am 56 . My body kicked into it's next chapter at 50. These have been some hard Years! I am holistic and still had incredible cortisol issues. I was doing allot wrong. Lot's of hot flashes/fatigue/depression and inflammation . I didn't get sleep for Years. NOW I am 6 months into this diet Dr Bright advocates. I have zero inflammation, I am losing weight, I have energy, my hair is growing thicker. Brain fog is leaving me. It wasn't easy, I had flu like symptoms for a couple of weeks which I could push through. Dr Bright! Thank you for being so honest and brave! I now am looking forward to many Years and adventures on this diet/life style.

Dr. Bright is soooooooo BRIGHT!!! I have been doing carnivore for almost six months and have avoided hip replacement (was scheduled to have hip sawed off Dec 6 2023; started carnivore mid November)... I am 60 yrs old and have always been an aggressive athlete (IRON-wo-MAN excessive cardio type endurance) and the conventional opinion is I simply used my hip too much and it wore out!! LOL! I have so many athletic friends that have had knee and hip replacements. I am forever grateful for RU-vid University and all of the valuable practiical information I have discovered. I am now stepping into the next level of understanding with Elizabeth's 80/20 fat/protein, plus 2 drops of iodine, and I am already noticing more positive results for my overall well-being. I feel like my hormones have been out of wack my entire life!!!! Thank you to Dr. Bright for all that you do to help us heal!!! Just started reading your book... AMAZING!!!!

I love Dr Bright! I am a dietitian on carnivore and can tell you most Dr's do not know anything about nutrition and should not be giving advice, but still do.They also do not do the proper labs regarding thyroid, insulin, I had to send a list with my husband for his Dr to order.

I ask for full thyroid panel, t3 reverse t3, free t4, t4 most just do TSH, i also asked for fasting insulin, C-Peptide which goes with insulin, B12, D, A1C(believe it or not not all Dr's do it if you are not overweight, same with insulin, never have I ever had a dr test me for insulin until I found my naturopath. DHEA is good to test also along with a spit test for hormones. I use Ken Berry's book, common sense labs, it helps a lot.@@les9058

I asked for a hormone panel and PCP told me since I was post menopausal it wasn’t necessary. As if estrogen/progesterone are the only hormones? The entire body is regulated by hormones, eleven if not mistaken. Currently shopping for an outside lab source, and since I have changed my doctor already, I’m thinking will have to change my HMO. My concern is they’re all the same. Oy.
@PrimalPathWellness
@PrimalPathWellness 4 месяца назад
for a hormone test it needs to be a spit test not blood, Dr's cannot do those but naturopaths can, i would find one if you can they know how to do them, and yes you still need to know your levels even after menopause because it is important@@susanls2909

Thank you both for this informative conversation! I have been without a thyroid for 24 years on levothyroxine. All of a sudden in 2021 my body screamed at me with chronic fatigue... I did find a wonderful Naturopathic physician locally that I was able to afford twice. Saving up for another follow up. Still have low energy, not as bad. I believe the information in this interview is life saving! I did buy Dr Bright's book, reading that, and ordered desiccated thyroid 30mg. Starting out with one daily, my PCP ordered a blood test for 3 months out. I have horrible insulin resistance, today is my second day of carnivore 🙏🏻. Feeling encouraged that it should only take one month give or take, to reset my endocrine system 💓. When my health is finally under control I will rejoice! Ladies, I'm so very grateful for you both sharing this lifesaving information!

There is new research that says your cortisol regulates glucose and if you don't give your body glucose, then your body releases cortisol to produce endogenous glucose when your blood sugar is too low. It also says cortisol breaks down your lean muscle, bones and brain to make amino acids that your liver converts to glucose. The solution,Georgi Denkov says, is to eat complex carbs or ripe fruit like watermelon,oranges, grapes,tangerines or mango, but you can't have your fat be over 30% or glucose will be metabolized through glycolysis and not in the mitochondria, which will increase lactic acid. He says for diabetics, and people who are obese,they might need to limit their fat to around 15%. But healthy people can have an intake of 35%. He also says to avoid resistant starches bc they promote endotoxin production in the colon.

What are your thoughts on berberine to lower cholesterol? I took it while on carnivore & menstrual cycle is now late. 🤷‍♀️ (No longer taking it ).
@coachdebbiepotts
@coachdebbiepotts 5 месяцев назад
I looked it up and found this information... I am not a doctor just a health investigator! I don't just look at cholesterol but the markers ABOB, Lpa, LDL particle size, Trig and CRP. BUT... online said "Lipid Profile Improvement: Berberine supplementation has also shown beneficial effects on lipid metabolism, leading to improvements in lipid profile parameters such as LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. The mechanisms involved include: Inhibition of Cholesterol Synthesis: Berberine inhibits an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in cholesterol synthesis. By blocking this enzyme, berberine reduces cholesterol production in the liver. Enhanced LDL Receptor Expression: Berberine upregulates the expression of LDL receptors in the liver, promoting the clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. Activation of PPARs: Berberine activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), which are involved in regulating lipid metabolism. Activation of PPARs helps improve lipid profile by increasing fatty acid oxidation and reducing triglyceride synthesis. Overall, berberine supplementation appears to offer a multifaceted approach to improving blood sugar levels and lipid profile parameters. However, it's essential to note that individual responses to berberine may vary, and further research is needed to fully understand its long-term effects and optimal dosing strategies. Consulting with a healthcare professional before starting any supplementation regimen is advisable, especially for individuals with existing medical conditions or those taking medications.

@@coachdebbiepotts Did you come to a conclusion on this? It’s my understanding that Nascent is the best. ❤

What strength should be taken? I've found 3 different ones. Also, one has potassium iodide in with it ?@PeaceIsYeshua

@@aspecialangel16 I just do what the bottle recommends. I take 4 drops daily of my Nascent Iodine. I think Elizabeth Bright recommends 2 drops daily of 5% Lugol’s. She doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal if you get more than you need, but of course, there’s always controversy. 🤪

How do you know if you need to lower your cortisol?
@coachdebbiepotts
@coachdebbiepotts Год назад
Ideally lab testing but we can collect clues with symptoms and correlate if high or low cortisol patterns. Saliva test or DUTCH hormone test- Dr. Bright prefers saliva test for cortisol.

So we can address our thyroid issues with a high fat Carnivore diet?
@coachdebbiepotts
@coachdebbiepotts 10 месяцев назад
Everyone is a little different so I would experiment and work with a thyroid expert. Work on lifestyle habits first as we talked about -CHRONIC Stress impacts thyroid health and domino effect to other symptoms so it depends!

@coachdebbiepotts 10 месяцев назад
Strict carnivore no but it depends on what you are doing carnivore for as a 90-day food elimination plan for gut/health issues or other? Mushroom adaptogens? It depends!

This is great. Thank you Dr. Bright. My need with AS ai is to stop the overheating flush at 71 after meals. Too much protein? Not enough fats?
