Last Friday the Princess of Wales made a public video announcemnt, revealing that she is receiving preventive chemotherapy after planned abdominal surgery in January revealed she had cancer. Dr Hilary explains.

I cannot believe that Kevin Maguire criticised Catherine for coming out with her diagnosis so late when she stated very clearly that she specifically waited until the schools closed before telling them as she knew how much fallout there would be. He obviously didn’t listen very carefully.

Irrespective, anyone with such a diagnosis needs time for adjustment and to grapple with what it all entails. It also requires time for exploring possibilities for it’s management emotionally and physically. Shame on those who felt entitled to mock without any understanding of the emotive post operative issues and concerns. Free speech includes accountability and responsibility, not the freedom to shoot one’s mouth off just because they have the platform to do so.

KP announced she was having or had had abdominal surgery in mid Jan. Then there was an announcement that it wasn’t cancer. Then the excessively altered Mother’s Day photo and then the fake sightings, which is when the speculations by the media and regular folks caught fire. So, the media and other folks were right. It wasn’t just abdominal surgery and recuperating until Easter. There was something else wrong.

The Princess didn't say she still has cancer! She said after her operation that it had been found to have been cancerous ,(past tense) and that the doctors want her to start preventative chemotherapy, which I take as just making sure to prevent it from coming back.

When tissues are removed during surgery, it is routinely sent for analysis - which can take hours to days for results to be available. If/when cancer was found, based on the level of the cancer, various treatment options will be considered and commenced. @williecoulter1091 preventative treatment means: they are treating what they found with chemotherapy to try to isolate it, and prevent it from spreading.

As a nursing sister and cancer patient. What CATHERINE had removed abdominally must have Had a few cancer cells discovered in pathology so then an ONCOLOGIST would Recommend chemotherapy in case of residual covert microscopic blood cells etc. It is Preventative treatment whatever. It is belt and braces to make sure CATHERINE becomes Cancer free. I had same treatment . Am now well. Mgt

Since this doctor has not seen Catherine or details of her surgery, all he can do is speculate regardless of his education and expertise. So that's all this 23:59 minute segment is worth - speculation. I thought we were trying to get away from that but these jerks and Good Morning Britain have learned zip from the public video. They ignore her right to medical privacy and this doctor should be ashamed of participating. Does he need the money? Maybe his practice needing money indicates a lower level of expertise.

Don't kid yourselves. There are several oncologists in my family, and I can tell you, there is no such thing as "preventative" chemotherapy. Chemo is very toxic. One is only given it, if there is a strong possibility that one still has cancer cells floating around in one's body. Her doctors do not think that the Princess is cancer-free; she would not be given chemo, if they did.

Had you all respected Catherine s first ask then you all would have heard everything once her children were safe at home. But you media just couldn't in your righteousness. First off thank you for addressing her as Princess of Wales in your heading. Her rightful title. I’m more offended by their continuing calling her Kate Middleton. Especially the nefarious duo in CA who insist on their Duke/Duchess of nothing titles on everything but absolutely refuse to address her as Princess of Wales. Brits & media should know better. Harry should know better. I’m American and I know better. Our embarrassment of our USA President’s press secretary referring to her as the Duchess of Cambridge. Good grief to all of you. By the way I’m an American and she is to me Catherine, Princess of Wales. She has earned it, and she wears it gracefully.
