Recopied. (Sorry in advance for the longest comment ever 😊) I’m new at this (May 2023) for health and weight loss, and I’ve lost 23lb so far. But, I’m getting so many contradictions from the carnivore community and the many Dr’s. I am on carnivore and I do have moderate amounts of dairy and coffee. By it’s very nature the carnivore diet is restrictive and a hard core lesson in moderation. In my opinion, that is the basis of every good diet/lifestyle out there. I respect this drs opinion…… however, this seems a bit severe. Everything is not an addiction, her advice after all that she said, was to go online? ‘Put your earbuds in’ Huh? I also agree with all processed foods, and sugar, they’re poison. It’s Chemically processed foods that are the toxic triggers. And I understand that is by design. But calling milk ‘processed’ is a bit of a reach. It’s a 100% totally natural process. Babies drink it for survival. It is instinctive, not addiction. She advised us well on what not to eat, (everything) but what can we eat?? Why on earth would we possess taste buds, if not to enjoy what we eat? Eating is for survival obviously but, due to taste buds it should also be enjoyed and pleasant because our brain tell us so. But having a chunk of cheese with dinner does not make me an addict. It means I like a bit of cheese with dinner, lol! I’m more confused now, with all this advice than I was when I started out. Eat fat, don’t eat fat. Have dairy, don’t have dairy. Less protein, more protein! It’s dizzying. Overall, for me it’s about self-control. I consider all processed food to be invisible lol! I just keep walking, knowing that it will never be on the menu. And I accept that, and fully understand why. So far, that mindset has changed my life. (Ok rant is over 🫤) thanks for listening. Wheww! 😅

@@JamPenny22 yeah.. wrong person to invite to a carnivore channel. Her guest the lady doctor, posted above after some of us started complaining about her views, and she wrote that she eats meat from time to time. She is not a carnivore, so she was the wrong person to have on this channel. She is entitled to her opinion though, but IMO she is too much OCD about everything and calls everything an addiction. I agree with the others - she is not the right person to listen to when you are starting carnivore. You will find out what (if some dairy) works for you and what doesn't. I recommend Parmigiano Reggiano for its K2 (which guides the calcium from your arteries to the bones) and its many other nutritional and health benefits. Wife and I always grate it on our burgers and it's delicious.

For those who are feeling confused by this video, here is my two cents. If you are thriving on a carnivore/ketogenic lifestyle then I wouldn't worry so much about what she is saying. Just take the info that resonates with you and leave the rest behind. The results we are getting combined with lab test say it all. We dont need another person to validate what we are doing if we know its working for us ❤

@1320Lee
@1320Lee Год назад
@@peterboytRaKs I personally go to holistic doctors who use muscle response testing. But its not a bad idea to do a blood test before starting carnivore and then maybe 6 months to a year later just for peace of mind and get an idea of where you are at with certain #'s (simply comparing yourself to yourself). I actually found out through a blood test last year that I had high uric acid levels, I refused the prescription and then went to my natural doctor and got something for it. There are smart ways of going about it IMO, like I said "just my two cents" of course other people can do as they see fit for thier own health journey.

"You've got to eat fats." Finally, a nugget of wisdom squeezed into the midst of all this confusion. I can't imagine how this would help anyone relatively new to carnivore and struggling to get a handle on the basics. The title is misleading. This should be marketed as rehab for those with severe food addiction. Those of us who are trying to heal from hormonal and gut issues (and undereating) and doing pretty much everything we've been learning to do and still not losing weight need the balance of someone like Dr Bright, not the mental chaos this inspires.

Nothing wrong with the protein and fat in milk, as well as other nutrients like calcium. If I could get milk without galactose I would happily drink it and it would be good for me. This myth about cow's milk versus mother's milk is naive and silly. Your body doesn't care, it simply metabolises what you eat into the one or all of the 3 macronutrients...

@ketoman4057
@ketoman4057 Год назад
@@keithbarbaro7590 LOL! For me there is a lot of sugar in milk. One teaspoon of sugar (5g) per 100ml. So a litre of milk has 10 teaspoons of sugar. Or a cafe latte made with 200ml of milk has 10g (2 teaspoons of sugar). I aim to have less than 25g of sugar per day, zero ideally. Your body only needs 5g of sugar at any given moment - the rest spikes insulin and gets stored as fat - bad fat. I wonder what you Americans are eating anyway? It has to be full of carbs and seed oils - all toxins. I annoys me to see beautiful beef ribs smothers in sticky yucky sweet sugary sauce. Since when was it a good idea to coat meat with sugar?? Madness....a bit of salt is all it needs as the natural flavour of grass fed beef is unbeatable....stupid sauces kill the natural flavour and also kill the person eating it. Drowning good meat in sauce, any sauce, is a dumb thing to do, completely ruins the natural flavour of meat, get you even more addicted to sugar, and is bad for your health.

Hi, I have only recently realised I was a carnivore, I was brought up as a carnivore and cheese eater. I don’t know where you found this lady but I have never experienced any fat craving, cheese craving or others. My grandad lived on the farm in UK, drank milk and eat meat everyday and lived to 105. My father even apologises that he is a carnivore and gets into trouble with his new wife who is a semi vegetarian. My dear dad is 95. I have never heard my dad complaining of any pain ever and the only operation or hospital intervention he had in his life was a gallbladder removed about 35 years ago. We are all slim, fit, walk a lot and eat plenty of cheese and meat. If things work for you then carry on with what you are doing . But definitely no processed foods or very little of them. By the way dad is still working as an architect and I’m still working as a psychiatrist part time at the age of 80. I’m saying again I’ve only recently discovered that we were carnivore just by chance , did not know there was such a thing. Thank you for reading my rumblings.

I hit a plateau about 6 weeks into keto/carnivore after losing 20 pounds. I was solidly into ketosis and glucose under 100. Dr Boz mentioned I was probably long term insulin resistant and I was still producing insulin when I shouldn't be if my hormones were running normal. She nailed it. She said I would need to force a reset of my hormones by fasting once a week for 3-4 weeks. Anything from 24-72 hours water fasting should do. An alternative is to make sure I get in some weight lifting. I've been hitting a treadmill daily but have started hitting some weights with emphasis on more reps than weight. I just finished a 3 day water fast where I only dropped 5 pounds. The firs 24 hours were a little odd feeling but after that not a big deal. I ate small food portions coming off the fast with some diarrhea but nothing serious. I have lost a couple more pounds after a few days so I think I am back in the saddle again.

Not all cravings are from addiction. Sometimes the body craves what it needs. I listen to my body and go with what it needs. Since I’ve gone on the carnivore diet, my health has really improved. I initially had only a bit of heavy whipping cream, butter and cheese for dairy and began losing half a pound of weight a day. When I started adding more variety of dairy, my weight loss has stalled. I’m pretty sure cutting back will result in starting to drop weight again, but I’m definitely not cutting out butter. So many people loose too much weight eating butter. That doesn’t add up with what was said in this interview. What I’ve heard, is that it’s actually the amount of milk sugars in the dairy that cause the weight gain, not the fat ratio. So butter is superior to whole milk because it has much less milk sugar than whole milk. I could go on with the difference in fermented dairy also being better than whole milk, but I’ll just leave it for now.

Yeah dairy and more specifically cheese and heavy cream is something the carnivore community is split on. Some cheeses bother me some don't, but if I find if I eat a small portion of cheese/day it doesn't bother me. If I have a cheese omelette in the morning, and then snack on cheese between meals, and then grate loads of parm. cheese on my burgers I get a little bloated and some of my old stomach "sounds" come back. So for me moderation is key when it comes to cheese. 1 tablespoon of heavy cream in my coffee does not bother me though. I will be working on eliminating cheese and cream though, just because I know if I have anything more than a small portion it bothers me, so it can't be that good for me to begin with.

Same here on day 40. I bet this lady has never tried the carnivore diet and from the looks of it doesn't walk or exercise much which help greatly get your mind off the cravings for food you once ate... You will get some cravings now and then on the carnivore diet. It usually starts after week 3 or 4, but it's not as bad as she describes it and nothing a piece of good hard cheese or a burger can't fix. The trick is to eat enough meat/fat so that you do not get hungry between meals that you feel you need to snack. If you don't eat enough on the carnivore diet, that is when the cravings come back. Once you learn how to manage that the cravings are few are far between.

There are massive changes in the last 20-50 years alone. You cannot compare to people in previous generations. Additionally, the modern western lifestyle of artificial lights, screens, no outside grounding time (wearing shoes), not enough sunlight on bare skin or uncovered eyes, non native emf. A cow is a female and produces the milk that dairy products are made from. A steer is a castrated bull (male) that produces the beef. Two completely different animals. Milk female. Beef male. The cow's milk is produced specifically for baby cattle (male and female). The milk and the beef do not come from the same animal. Hope this helps you understand. I grew up on a farm and it seems to be common that most folks don't know or understand the anatomy. It would be counterproductive to kill a milk cow to eat because that cow would continue to produce milk rather than go to slaughter.

This was very interesting. I was on Keto for 2 and a half years before turning carnivore a year ago. I've lost over 38 kilos total in that time. Lately however, I've noticed my prostate problems have come back, after being gone for nearly 2 years. What did I change? For the past 4 months, I started buying lots of charcuterie meats (I live in France) for snacks and dipping the meat in crème fraîche. Dairy, cheese omelets, and high fatty meats, in addition to my normal carnivore meals. After listening to Dr Ifland, both are going to be eliminated. Those snacks would have me "zombie walking" to the refrigerator any time I sat in front of a TV. *Edited .. there is a lot of controversy about drinking coffee on carnivore. Some carnivore docs say okay, others say no. That being said, I've watched A LOT of videos on the subject by proctologists, bio-chemistry professors, and other professionals with advanced degrees who've studied the subject. I want amend my previous post to say I also eliminated coffee when I eliminated dairy. General consensus among the experts seems to say, if you're a person who is not impacted by caffeine (I can drink a cup then go to bed an hour later), then males over 65 should keep drinking it as it actually helps the prostate. I have found this to be true in my case.

It’s not just the caffeine, however, in coffee and teas, it’s the tannins which impede vitamin and mineral absorption, particularly B1/thiamin which is a nervous system regulator which is all-encompassing. I watched the entire video and didn’t get any negative vibes from it at all!! I believe she was just warning about addictions and how they can transfer from one thing to another and that it’s something to watch out for. If you have no problems with the transference, then she’s not talking to you!! Everything she spoke about how addiction works with the receptors, is correct. She’s offering people who are struggling a way to get help. That’s why Rina invited her on to speak about it, so that people on Carnivore who may be puzzled as to why it doesn’t seem to be working can troubleshoot and figure it out. I’ve been Carnivore for a year now and haven’t lost any weight- need to lose 30-40 lbs. I’m not concerned at all because I’ve had so many NSVs (non-scale victories) and my body is still in the healing process. The weight will come off when my body is ready for it to. Meanwhile, I’ve been able to get off four of the six drugs I’ve been on for many years, with the fifth one halved and on it’s way out, and the sixth will be started after that. My skin tags are gone and my skin isn’t dry like it was. I figure the weight will start to come off soon after I’ve weaned off that last drug- if my body says I’m healed. I have the addictive personality she talks about but have been able to control it with Carnivore- all my cravings for sugar are gone. I have found that I do have cravings for heavy whipping cream, so I just avoid it and I’m fine. I also LOVE bacon and Kerrygold butter and have eaten loads of both, but I don’t crave them like I craved sugar and HWC and can walk away from them, so they’re not a problem. TLDR: cravings are addictions triggered by substances your brain thinks your body needs. Just because something stimulates a brain pleasure center reaction doesn't equate to being 'bad' for you. This is an exercise in willpower to control your health and how you respond to how your body reacts to consuming various things you may or may not need. I think this was well intended but misconstrued in regards to addiction. Humans are not identical, but we all crave nutrients; without them, we starve. I don't think it's right to declare that an addiction regardless of what certain studies say.

I started Keto after Christmas this year. I was absolutely ill having eaten so much sugar and gluten. Keto got me over those cravings. But it took at least three weeks before I regained energy. It’s mid-February and I’m now Keto/Ketovore. I’ve been following Dr. Berry and Neisha, the Keto Twins, the Steak and Butter Gal and just recently watched some cooking videos by Chris Cooking Nashville. I absolutely love cooking and baking. I do appreciate the interview from today. I can see where I have addictive behavior with so many things in my life. I will stay too long on social media. Or I will focus too much on researching a certain subject. I will definitely look into the doctor’s findings. But my goal is to get my gut health taken care of, regain my proper weight and enjoy the proper human diet. I did a juice fast 10 years ago (Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead) for 40 days. I felt wonderful. My health was amazing. But I did not know how to get back to eating normally after the fact. I’ve done the Master Cleanse for 21 days and felt great toward the end of that. But I did not know how to return to normal eating. I can see myself using the Carnivore diet to get healthy and then toggle in out of Keto for variety. I will eventually know if I’m fooling myself and if it’s best to stay on Carnivore indefinitely. I’m at an age and stage in life where I want energy, clarity of mind and quality of life more than anything.

Ridiculous logic on dairy being a "food processed by a cow"! By that logic, meat is a processed food too! I get milk being addictive due to the lactose (a form of sugar) and casomorphines, and I don't drink milk and never have as I'm lactose intolerant. I agree milk is not good for carnivores due to that lactose sugar, but not all dairy is milk. Some dairy is fine with me as I've cured autoimmune Rheumatoid Arthritis and severe Interstitial Cystitis on carnivore with consumption of butter, occasionally good quality cheese and lactose free cream cheese (NOT Philadelphia as it's full of guar gum and thickeners) Cheese and cream have less lactose in them, if any, as the enzymes that make it cheese eat the lactose. I think the obsession with weight loss detracts from the real reason the carnivore diet is so beneficial. The healing from serious health conditions is the main goal for most of us. I've done my research, watched every carnivore video and, more importantly, listened to my body telling me what it needs, because I'm repairing years of joint and bone damage. Dairy with it's perfect combination of vitamins A, D, K2 and calcium, plus potassium and more with a good protein to fat ratio with healthy saturated fats is actually helping me heal. Having been overloaded with oxalates in my former WFPB vegan diet, I know when my body needs that calcium boost to bind up the excess oxalates and eliminate them via poop. And what's wrong with craving fats? Aren't most of us striving for high fat carnivore diet? I listen to my body, I analyse everything that goes into my body from a nutritional healing benefit basis. I'm finally off biologic meds and totally healthy by all recent blood tests so this woman's obsession with everything being an "addiction" is over the top and doesn't take into account our natural intuition and intelligence.

This left me baffled. If only unprocessed foods are recommended - and relatively few at that - I'd end up with an eating disorder. All cooked foods are denatured/changed by one process or another. Some are required to be processed and/or cooked to make them digestible in the human system. And for the record, breastfed babies only have raw milk at birth. This includes natural sugars in the mothers milk. I could continue, but I'm sure you get the gist.

I gained 20 pounds on pure carnivore and have now lost that after reintroducing dairy, fruits and honey. So the blanket statement that dairy (or fruit and honey) will automatically lead to weight gain is simply just not true. Still not saying that dairy, fruits and honey are optimal bcs I'm still trying to decrease it and stop it but it helped me sleep and decreased my stresshormones and that helped me to lose the weight that I gained on fully carnivore. (Weight that I gained bcs my body was so stressed out and couldn't sleep.) I was vegan for ten years, vegetarian for about ten aswell and I deal with an oxalate toxicity issue so fully carnivore got too stressful for me. Please hear me when I say that I think fully carnivore is glorious and that's what I'm striving for, but dairy has actually helped me with the oxalate toxicity issue. When my body is ready, I'm cutting it out though. Still going to make sure that I get sufficient amounts of calcium from for ex eggshells.

❓️ May I ask, where can I draw the line between processed and non processed food? I mean, Dr. Iflan says dairy is processed by a cow. But isn't meat either? The cow eats grass, and in the end it turns to be the cow meat.... And when I put the meat into a pan, and heat it - isn't it processed too?). Its a serious question of mine. Where can we draw the line?... Eggs are in way processed. The chicken ate... and processes the food into an egg and chicken meat. I am very new to carnivore (since one week) and I see, there is a LOT I dont know yet. So I am grateful for any information.

I’m two weeks into unprocessed anything-that-comes-straight-from-an-animal carnivore. Raw dairy meets my criteria. Anything that had be altered from it’s natural state in a factory (other than for portioning and packaging) I class as processed. I can’t eat enough meat to get past 1000 calories a day let alone hit the required protein:fat ratio. I have to have cream to up my fat intake and cottage cheese to up my protein intake when the ratio gets out of whack. I started feeling the benefits after three days. There are raw meat eaters out there who would argue that I’m processing my food myself when I cook it. To them I would say “Good luck with that.” The doctor raises some interesting questions but in the end we have to use our own common sense, trust our own experience, set our own principles, or we will go mad. Our total acceptance of the expertise of authority figures is likely to get us killed. Having said that, there are people who have had to cut out dairy, some for health concerns but many just because they’ve stopped losing weight. Personally I think it’s better to focus on health rather than weight. Also a diet has to be pleasurable for it to be sustainable for a lifetime which, if carnivore is truly the proper human diet, it needs to be.

@@louk6196 Thank you very much for your answer! Yes, I'm basically doing the same as you. I'm actually doing it to lose weight too, as I'm a bit overweight (I've had two pulmonary embolisms and can't exercise because I'm too short of breath) and should lose weight for health reasons. I was a vegetarian for 12 years for ethical reasons and I find it very difficult to eat so much meat and animal fat. Although I do eat a little dairy (unfortunately processed like very little Greek yoghurt, cream cheese, heavy cream and hard cheese), I hope that by cutting out sugar and most factory-processed foods I will lose some weight through ketosis. Since ketosis is also possible on the keto diet with plant-based proteins, I hope it will still work. Thank you for your answer, I feel better after reading it 🤗 All the best to you!

@@SeekingTruth2023 It is really difficult to eat meat and fat when we have been told by the “experts” over and over again that they will cause cancer and heart attacks. It’s particularly difficult when we love all animals and would rather they lived out their natural lifetime, free and happy. Unfortunately their natural lifetime is extremely short in the wild and ends with violence no matter how much we would wish it otherwise. The best we can do is buy meat only from humanely reared and slaughtered animals. If you are eating processed plant-based proteins, read the labels and make sure you know what each ingredient actually is. Manufacturers are putting some insane stuff in what can only be called Frankenfood. Best Wishes to you. I truly hope you will find the way that meets your needs and that your health improves 100%. 🤗 PS A lot of my dairy is processed as well. I can buy raw milk, cheddar, butter and cream but it’s very expensive so I can’t always afford it. Others like Greek yoghurt, cream cheese etc. are impossible to get raw. Thank you for this insightful video. Dr. Ifland covers some areas of the Carnivore eating that most others are not saying much about. I can truly relate to what she is saying. I have been sticking with beef steaks only and I am beginning to feel it is the best for me and to keep away from that Carnivore Ice cream that one Doctor promotes. It was addictive. Each time I made the Carnivore Ice cream I could not stop myself from wanting to eat the whole batch and so four times I made it and then had to wash more than half of it down the drain or I would have kept on eating it. I now know, I can never make it again.... Also cheeses, I can't stop if I buy cheese so now I just know I can not buy cheeses again.
@ApAcVideoWatcher
@ApAcVideoWatcher Год назад
I'm the same. I've perfected my own carnivore ice cream recipe and it's so addictive to me. If it's in my freezer, I'm eating it. For my recipe, even the smallest carton of cream creates around 40 pops and I only use cream in ice cream. I've discovered it's safer for me to just have a store bought ice cream on occasion than to keep my carnivore ice cream in the freezer. I've been carnivore just over two years now and it appears that as long as I'm my usual strictness, the occasional ice cream once a month or every few months won't mess me up at all. I do find what she said about butter and salt feeding opioid sensors interesting. I took opioids for pain management for multiple decades. Around six months into carnivore, I took myself off of them. I had been weening down. Until earlier this year, I craved salt and butter constantly. I ate a lot of salt. I thought it just my body healing, but I do wonder if it was a bit of both because I didn't have the physical withdraws to the extent I had in the past when insurance irresponsibly refused to pay without notice. Opiate withdrawal is no fun. IF, and I say "if" because I don't know it to be fact", salt and dairy feeds those receptors, it'd make a lot of sense as to why I've craved what I have craved at times. With that said, I don't believe all cravings are signs of addiction... I will use Magnesium as my example. Before I started using Magnesium, I'd crave chocolate like my life depended on it. I also ate a lot of spinach every single day. Along with nuts and seeds. (Yes, I ended up oxalate dumping badly for a long time.). I'd use cacao and make my own chocolates so that I could control what went in them. If I didn't have quite a bit of cacao every single day, my mood would go almost manic. Fast forward to switching to the carnivore diet. I was very worried I'd not be able to give up cacao and stay sane. I noticed I was craving the electrolytes I drank more and more. I pulled some Magnesium spray out that I had bought prior to help with pain. I noticed when I used it, my electrolytes cravings went down, so I bought some ingestible magnesium and started adding extra to my drinks. (I don't like the residue the oil leaves or I'd use it because it does absorb better.). Almost instantaneously, it seemed, I stopped craving chocolate. I didn't just stop craving it, I stopped thinking about it. I currently have two versions of very high quality cacao in my pantry. I've always been picky on the flavor profiles of cacao, but now I'm wondering if some are higher in Magnesium than others. They've been in my pantry for a few years now. The only time I remember they're there is if I watch a chocolate video and consider making something to give away or if I don't have my usual amount of Magnesium for whatever reason. What's really interesting to me is if given the choice between some water with LMNT and extra Magnesium in it (I also add iodine) or the most delicious chocolate confection I can think of, I'll reach for the water. There's a big part of me that's appalled by that because Mmmm chocolate, but it is what it is. Now that I think about it, when I first started drinking LMNT, I almost exclusively drank the chocolate salt version. That stuff tasted like Ambrosia to me. I rarely drink it now unless during cold months when I'll make hot drinks with it so I don't have to turn my heat on. I clearly had an undiagnosed Magnesium deficiency. When looking at everything Magnesium has a hand in, I definitely had a deficiency. So, I don't think all cravings are addictions per say. However, I'm not entirely sure we can distinguish between actual need and addiction when going by feeling or craving. It's a very interesting subject. I think I've found my next research deep dive. Haha, I wonder if anyone considers an addiction to learning as a negative thing. My brain is certainly an addict for that. Thank you for the different, but interesting interview. Our bodies are complex machines. The popular carnivore dogma lacks the intricacies to be absolute. I appreciate persons who don't spout the routine line and who challenge the conversation. I don't always agree with them and I rarely agree with 100% of what anyone on the subject states, but I do welcome the opportunity to be pointed in another research direction. If no one is questioning different points then we've failed ourselves. This was an enjoyable video. 🦋

I LOVE cheese but one has to do what one has to do. Darn.

Thank you! Thank you so much for doing this interview. Less than 5 minutes into this video and Dr. Ifland was speaking to my soul. I want to be a better parent. Wow. Intense cravings. Addiction transfer. Zombie walking. "Relationship problems" with food when everyone is in bed. I needed this video 20 minutes ago when I "fell off" and binged on 2 cookies and a ice cream cone from the freezer.

This is so informative (and encouraging!). Thank you so much for the wonderful content. My husband and I are in our first carnivore week and I’m seeing so many benefits and great results. Thank you for the wealth of information. Learning more every day!

This information is amazing and shows what happens when we stop listening to Grandmother's advice : Everything in moderation. ❤
