*"Rule 12 - Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street"* This one really hit me in the strangest way. I recently lost my best friend, my dog, and I was absolutely heartbroken because of it. One day I was walking aimlessly in the streets, like I many times did with my dog, when a random cat caught my gaze and came towards me. The only thing that I could do was the most obvious one: I petted it. After a few minutes, we both went our way. I don't know how or why that happened, but it truly was like a ray of light piercing through the dark clouds of my mind. It made me realize that, despite death and sadness, life can still go on and offer moments of shining beauty.

Losing a pet that is family as is the case with everyone, it’s a big hit on the family and one that takes a lot of time of getting used too of them not being their, but as the saying goes time is a healer but you don’t notice such a thing till you lose someone you love dearly. All the best 👍🏼.

*Rule 08 - Tell The Truth* -- I've been doing that for so many years. Not a single lie. I don't go out telling other people what I think of them, that is being rude. I answer SPECIFICALLY what they asked for, not more, not less. If for some reason I don't want to answer the question, instead of lying I have a trick that is super complex to normal people, I say "I really don't wanna answer that, if that's ok for you." and ta-da, we change topics. I'm not saying it's easy not to lie in a world where people expect you to lie, but with therapy and courage, you can. I learned that every time I lie, I'm being ashamed of who I am.
@stuarthall3874
@stuarthall3874 3 года назад
"I learned that every time I lie, I'm being ashamed of who I am." - I like that line. I think valuing to tell the truth has been one of my most beneficial qualities, greater that my intelligence or congeniality. As I've gotten older, I've found it harder to not deceive. I have come across people who will look for ammo against me and use partial truths as basis for lies against me. It is then hard for me not to lie in order to hide such truths. I also fear that I lie to myself more than I realize. That may be the biggest challenge to be truthful. Overcoming that necessitates having others in my life who love me and value truth. So many of us construct stories to uphold our own sense of worth and it might be a lie to think I am not vulnerable to that as well.

I remember reading this book like 25 years ago. Remember him talking about having the power to choose who lived and died in the concentration camp based on how he ladelled the soup (IE, if he scooped from the bottom the person would get more vegetables and meat but if he scooped from the top they would only get broth and there wasn't nearly enough to go around so he made the choice to give the veggies to the people that looked the healthiest. Wow. I can't imagine having to make that choice and then actually doing it.)

11:50 Rule 12 made me a believer. Funny enough, my cat looks 95% like this cat and she is my world. Smartest and most loving sweetie. I found her when she was 1.5 weeks old, runt of litter, abandoned, and dying. She came at a time I was at my lowest. I never realized it until now, 5 years later - that she made me such a better person. Always there when I needed someone, and something to take care of. I am a better person because of her - as well as many other things

It's funny that you mention not to interfere with their skateboarding. When my son asked for one, I purchased one for him. Minutes after he rode it he broke his arm. After a cast was placed upon him I asked him how he felt about the incident. He said something like "I should have been paying attention." Which I responded that I was happy that he learned this lesson.

I used to come here and listen to these videos at nights whenever I felt alone or perhaps lonely. It was a relief from time to time but I've come to a conclusion by the time. "Life is as meaningful as you fulfil yourself" That is why you get sad or mad and literary seeking for peace, putting your concern at ease and you trying trying and trying but you often break down and crawl toward distractions like p*rn, s*x, or cigar and any other sorts of addiction which it could even be eating food or not carrying about self and then, at the end of the day you feel impurity, defiled, self-loathing. We're all different but still yet have similarities. Make mistakes as soon as possible. Then you'll start learning and bettering yourself and Be unique and stay better. Love you, love yourself. what is so brilliant about him? He is just a seller, a good one. Nothing he said, especially here in his book isn`t new or brilliant. Pet a cat, let your child ride a skate!? Common, ask a child to tell you about his philosophy and you will here something similar. He is just an advertiser, selling books and talking what you want to hear. Nothing special about him. I am here because someone recommended this book, and I am sceptical, because I know what he sells, but I respect that person who recommended me. Now, I am sure, I am not going to read it. Positive psychology is for women and people who cannot bare the truth, the life, as it comes. And what is that, if you don`t tell the truth, at least don`t lie? There is no middle, like if you don`t say it, it is ok. No, it is not, you have to say something, and it better be the truth. Yes, truth hurts, but if you are strong, you will take it. If you are a pussy, read positive psychology, but it will never help you. I will go back to Andrew Tate, because he is real, this guy isn`t.

Love the part on rule 12 when he talks about shortening the time frame to days then hours then minutes. By a loved one's death bed, that's exactly what you do. Give every ounce of love and presence and positive life force you have into that minute, that moment, because it's only a moment and the moment's gone. But that's how you find joy in sorrow. That's as close as we ever come to God.

The words of this man, Tony Robins, and many others are so, so needed and important at this moment in history. He's exposing the potential in all of us to demand greatness without ourselves, not to blame the world, not to fix the world while your own house is in chaos. Why can't people like this be the leaders of our country instead of the clowns that actually are? These people will lead and will lead by example. A true example for the confused, meaningless lives of others screaming at the world around them for their own inadequacies. Dr. Peterson, don't ever stop...you are making a difference. Thank you.

A thing that I always remind myself - If I want to change or aspire to make a difference, then it starts with me. It's far easier to campaign hate than love and much even normal to just coast through life than go after your goals. Instead of being that person who laughs at someone's failures and keeps asking how someone got the perfect end-result, I'll always be on the other side of the coin who struggles and thrive for the better.

#5 is a really tough one for me. I have a son with autism, and I work with children, who have behavior disorders. Nearly all of the parents whose children I have worked with struggle with #5, because our children have difficulty conforming to social norms. We have to shift our feelings about what is appropriate and likable about our children when they have profound disabilities. If we do not, we will certainly dislike them. Sadly, those around us, who do not know our families, may not shift their ideals, and when this happens, sometimes our entire family becomes socially outcast.

There's a lot more information about autism now than there was a generation ago, enough for someone on the functional side of the spectrum to understand what's different about them and learn how to understand social cues and modulate their behavior. The world is "neurotypical" and it's unreasonable, not to mention unfair, to expect the majority to redefine the norm so people outside it feel better. People have a duty to be kind to those who are different but if those who are different don't undertake to learn how to interact normally with others, they will always be outsiders and never fully participate in life. Harsh but true.

#1. Stand up straight with your shoulders back: Slouching often happens on the people who are shy and less confident. It happens to myself and my teenager daughter except I'm now gaining more and more conscious about it and will correct myself whenever I realize I fall back to slouching position, but she still doesn't put any effort into it despite I have reminded her many many times. She was getting irritated when I was trying to remind her again and again when we walk together. Any parents here have some good suggestions on that? I, on the other hand, use her as a reminder to myself not to slouch because it really looks awful. So with her standing by my side, I will always remember to stand up straight. I guess that's a silver lining.

Rule #8 - TELL THE TRUTH: I agree with most heartily. I have violated that in my past for two reasons: The first because I was lazy and the truth took effort and discipline. I have worked hard to eliminate that character defect and made huge improvements. The second is to protect someone, or something of value, from damage. I have resolved that there will be little to no adjustments made to that ethos.

I just finished listening to the audio book of JP's 12 Rules for Life and I must say, this short video was more beneficial than the entire book. I read a review from someone who said there were a few too many religious references in the book, which I wasn' too keen on. However, I assumed it would be sparingly so I got the book anyway. Disappointingly, around 90% of the entire book is constant bible references and metaphors. Not even exaggerating. I felt like I was listening to a preacher just reciting stories from the bible and metaphors in an attempt to explain the rules being discussed. I have been watching JP content for a while now and very much enjoy it, however the book was, for lack of a better word, terrible in my opinion. If anyone is thinking about buying it, and you are not christian, don't bother. Watch this short video and you'll get more benefit from the 12 rules.
