I do not own this video and do not claim to be the owner of this incredible work. Just trying to make this inspiring message available to as many people as possible.
I came here today because I need to hear Maya Angelou's voice. I need hope that not all is lost. I need hope that there is still infinite good in people, and that no matter what, love trumps hate. Dr. Angelou, I so wish you were here today, sister. The world needs your words and wisdom right now. Help us heal.
As someone who was bigoted as a youngster, l look back now with sadness and remorse over ignorant comments I once made. Now as a somewhat wiser teacher I showed this to students last year and told a little of her story. It had a profound effect and the reality is words can are the most powerful tool for both good and bad. Rip.
How wonderful to listen to a true fellow Christian as Maya Angelou, such a delight to find another one who is such a sweet follower of the one true God. Please May we all learn that it more important to follow the only true God , Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and banish forevermore the works , temptations of the devil who would lead us astray. Killing others in any circumstances is not the solution, just ask Jesus to take over the situation and He will guide us to His safety, and His way . Mrs Deirdre Elizabeth Heisch Boustead Loftus.
"Not in my house you won't" ! Words are things. They get into your walls, into your rugs, into your upholstery, into your clothes. Sometimes words get into you. We must be careful about calling people out of their names". Dr. Maya Angelou
She's still here. In your memories, in your heart, and in your world. And just like she said, her words are still there. She will only be truly gone when no one is there to remember her impact, so she is still there, inside of you.
Before I go to bed, I watch this Lady. I simply respect her opinions about any issues she talks about., I am so sure, you are in heaven , no doubt about it. But your legacy you instilled in us and your words of wisdom are so amazing, You were, are and will continue to be an inspiration for so many people, RIP Love you Ms. Angelou
The world needs Dr. Angelou so bad right now. I know she is resting in peace wherever she may be. Anytime I’m struggling with the ugly in the world I come back and listen to her speaking. She saw the beauty in the ugliest of situations. She spoke so much truth. She has touched so many peoples lives with her words including my own. I named my youngest daughter Maya in her honor and in hopes that she will grow up to be as strong as Maya Angelou.
She's still here, though. In your memories, in your heart, and in your world. And just like she said, her words are still there. She will only be truly gone when no one is there to remember her impact, so she is still there.
She is absolutely right and I'm glad that I came upon this, cause this is how I live my life and how I see things, and call them out as I see them. You've got to be careful cause you're WEARING what you speak.. Speak kindness ALWAYS
The power of words can never be underestimated. If someone drags you down with their words to where you find yourself responding in kind, it is time to move away and be with people that lift you up, so you can lift up others.
God called Home this week a Poet..Humanitarian...Warrior in Gods Army...Mother..Sister...Friend ..this week.. We celebrate her homecoming....I ll see her again....
Farewell Dr. Maya Angelou Only you know why The caged bird sings You have been taken From us Now under the Lord's wings You assured us That nobody can make it Out here alone And life doesn't frighten you Because you're solid as a stone A phenomenal woman God's very own Always trying to be a rainbow In someone's cloud Your words were so profound But on the pulse of morning You have us mourning Your passing time You have made such a positive Impact on mankind It's really hard to fathom We wish your day was not done But it is It is done And we say thank you For truly inspiring Through your kind words You were one of the world's finest pearls Dr. Maya Angelou Indeed we are hurt To say Farewell You will forever be missed Here on earth As you were one of The world's greatest gifts
In the beginning was the word, the word was God.. Through him heaven n earth was created.Without him nothing is possible..Man these days look for fame and money, when the breath stops, everything is dead, will some realise this rather than running behind power...
Thank You 🙏 God bless you That’s was good it’s was so good Glory To God Amen Hallelujah Praise God like when I hear Maya Angelou voice I Am Loved ❤️🙏 God Is Good Mercy do forever God Is Kind God Is Love 💕 Don’t walk by feelings
Re-reading this once more, because of it's sheer elegance and amazing tribute to a wonderful poet, Maya Angelou. Bravo, dear Darkling! How I applaud this beautiful piece and your incredible talent for capturing the heart of one's journey.
She's got that right!!! A lot of people don't seem to bother to be polite or kind anymore. Seems like a lot of singers, bands, rappers, decide to throw swear words in their songs just for the hell of it. And I'm guilty too, I've had to deal with so much over the past few years, sometimes I just feel rage at the world. And that's not how I want to be, and that's not really me, but the feelings are there. I'm really frustrated a lot of the time. We're living in a frightening world these days.
GOD thank you for putting this wonderful woman into my life she is talented and beautiful as well as smart and i just hope you put more people like her into my life i love all my brothers and sisters i can never understand how people can hate someone without even getting too know them first but i know in time i hope too with you LORD for i see past all our imperfections and look deep into the spirit like you want us too i may never understand those people who use ugly words but i know those words hurt so i wont ever s them and i wont allow people too use them around me I am taught by and this amazing woman may she rest in peace amen
Having a doctorate in education and understanding the notion of earned and honorary doctorates, I understand Dr. Maya Angelou's usage of the title Doctor. “The practice [of awarding honorary degrees] dates back to the Middle Ages…” The University of Oxford awarded Lionel Woodville an honorary degree in the late 1470s making this the earliest honorary degree on record. Evangelist Billy Graham and Founding Father Benjamin Franklin both received honorary doctorates and used the prefix Doctor. Dr. Angelou received just over four dozen honorary doctorates in her lifetime for her prolific body of work. In total she has written far more than the typical person who earns one doctorate (typically dissertations run between 100 and 200 pages; though, some exceed 300 pages); and certainly more have read her works than have read our dissertations. In the end, some recipients of honorary doctorates use the title, some do not. It is their prerogative unless specifically restricted by the awarding institution.
There is always one "scholar" who wants to correct someone. You are right. That is a quote from John. I too may have made the mistake as it is written just as Genesis is written..."in the beginning". At any rate, it takes nothing from her message and I do not fault a world renowned poet for mixing up scriptures in her 80s. O_o
Happy Sunday everyone Stay Safe And Be Strong In The Lord Never Give Up Look What Year You Have left Keep On Moving Farword You Are Not Alone God And Jesus Is With You

The scripture she used is not Old Testament and is not in Genesis. She quoted "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God." This passage of scripture is New Testament, found in the Book of John chapter 1 verse 1. RIP Dr. Angelou
I think that's the point she's making. Because if you re watch the video you would call her a liar. Right, after that. She says be careful about calling someone out of their name.
The verse "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." is John 1:1 which is the 4th book of the new testament not Genesis which is the 1st book of the old testament.
It is in the book of John in the New Testament, not in Genesis. And the word refers to the greek logos, which also means thought, and became a philosophical euphemism apart from the meaning "word" in english.
I'm interested in this topic & appreciate her conviction. Perhaps someone can reach out to her and let her know her quote is not from Genesis but John 1:1. I think it would help support her insights. I'm guessing she probably realized it after she said it & was not able to edit the video. I do hope Oprah gets to know the Bible better (at least someone on her staff) so she can edit these types of things or catch them before they are aired. Find Motivationeer if you have the chance. Thanks.
Changing one's birth name is like slapping your parents in the face. It's disrespectful and unnecessary. This is especially true if it's done for the anticipation of greater recognition and or financial gain.
Look, I'm not disagreeing with what she says. It's some good stuff, but it would make her a lot more credible if she quoted the bible correctly. The scripture she quotes is found at the beginning of the Gospel of John in the New Testament, NOT Genesis.
