You NAILED it. It is August of '22 and JUST NOW we have the Udyr rework. You should be proud of calling that with such specificity. That's legit impressive.
Corporate mundo should be his new base skin, make him a crazy business man from Piltover who's idiotic ideas somehow always work out for him out of sheer fckn luck
When I saw the new mundo visually, I honestly almost laughed out my lungs. It meant for a second, somebody at the visual design team was really like “Hm, how can we make *Mundo* more visually attractive?”.
In my opinion he doesn’t seem really more attractive, but he seems more scary. Also his animations still make him look like a bumbling idiot so it balances it out
The attractiveness aspect especially as a trend more recently with champions is because of China, the champions who are popular in China are all the champions one may deem attractive, meanwhile everywhere else has at least 1 monster champion that is popular. Furthermore with Riot being owned by Tencent, a Chinese company, along with Wild Rift basically being made because the mobile game market is huge in China. So while yes money is one of the aspects, it's because the Chinese market just completely outnumbers everyone else.
I'll be honest, I don't See the "tragic anti Hero" Story Part, considering He still believes lobbing someones Arm Off is a good was to heal Them. The only difference is that this Munro notices that He failed With healing after the Patient didn't move for weeks (as also shown by His new Short story)
I mean it makes sense right? For example if you have a headache, then you no longer will have any headache after Mundo cuts your head off; No head, no headache. I think this is the logic the new Mundo is going for, technically he cures you. And I don't really think he's a tragic hero, he still worked as an enforcer to basically a mob boss, prior to being experimented on.
"Kled is stupid" Being a yordle he is likely still smarter than a human who is considered a 'genious'. Remember, Kled is a war expert and a brilliant commander, even if he does suffer from dementia and drug addiction.
i will not tolerate this kled wank; kled calls himself a good tactician, but its easy to rack up victories when both you and your steed are entirely immortal.
@@auqanova Ya they don't 'die' by our understanding, but every single being in the universe of league of legends will meet the end at some point, even a being as powerful as aurelion sol will die one day.
@@bluntlyhonest6803 true, but 'I can only die at the runeterran equivalent of the heat death of the universe' is still a pretty massive crutch on the scale of a noxian battlefield
You're missing the point, its super bland to make mundo a generic beefcake, even if hes muscular they made him too much of a himbo, like every single new character being released earlier. There's a very palpable tencent influence
I think the “E-boy-ing” of League broke the last straw with me when they made that fucking Xerath skin. The Storm Atronach doesn’t need to be a goddam E-Boy dude
I felt a bit better when I thought that maybe it’s what he looked like before he touched the sun disk. It’s reasonable to assume he had a bit of muscle considering he was a slave.
@@anotherpersonfromnorfolk1587 that’s an okay justification I guess, but considering the culture of Shurima I know it’s just not possible that he would’ve looked anything like that. I also can’t move past the fact that in no way, shape, or form was this design meant to service the lore.
@@anotherpersonfromnorfolk1587 1. Lmao at the Thresh skin. Yeah…. Kinda dumb. 2. The skin servicing the lore isn’t really a concern. Your justification for it possibly being him before he became an Atronach requires a certain level of suspended disbelief that I personally couldn’t muster. I’m basically just say that reason doesn’t personally work for me that’s all.
This comment is underrated, i feel like they changed the mystery of mundo from what he is to what turned him into what he is. Similar to the mystery behind jinx.
The one thing I really appreciate about new Mundo is while he's walking he'll sometimes say an old Sion joke line. Sion: "Hand bone connected to the axe bone connected to your face bone." New Mundo: "Hand Bone connected to the, cleeaaaveer bone."
For me some reworks actually made me interested in playing them. yorick's rework became one of my all-time favorites. I didn't really get to play the old one I had no interest in him, but the rework brought me in. awesome video Nicky!
@@Rexog90 I did as well. Along with Aatrox and Urgot. I played voli before his rework and really liked him the reworked him and I like him even more now, tho i do miss his flip
I think Yorick and Taric reworks were... bad. They changed them way too much. Mordekaiser was kinda ok, but I can't play him as support any longer, so I'm not huge fan of this rework either
The name tag makes sense because he lost his mind so much it broke the fourth wall. I feel like he might be the only Character who could really pull off Deadpool levels of fourth wall breaks. Then have other characters all write it off as ravings of a mad man.
I like to think of his style as a sort of subversion of expectations. He looks scary, like a generic mad scientist, from lore, look, and theme, he looks like a horror character. But then you get in game and he turns into a bumbling fucking idiot, it pulls the rig out from under you. And as someone who is new, I love it!
I think they did a very good job at keeping the silly vibe mondo gave, while not making him terrible on the eyes. I was worried they would make him grim and serious, but am glad that they kept his goofy personality
I also like the visuals and all but I think he kinda lost his identity. He was a tank that u picked into heavy ap comps now he doesn’t really fit in any comp he’s just a Stattchecker
In my opinion both looked good, but I like the new one more, the old one looked way way too excessive for me and this new one to me keeps his goofines, mainly with voicelines and emotes
The old one was good for what league was at the time, but now that the lore and designs are more grounded and focused the new one is better as a part of the game
I agree, though I would've liked for his teeth to be a little less... well, healthy-looking. You'd imagine that he either doesn't visit a dentist or does it himself and I doubt that's the field where he's suddenly an amazing doctor.
Not in the design tho. I mean, its better than the concept art, but there's still the lame vibe of ''cOoLNeSs" that Tencent, ugh, i mean RIOT try to do every time now.
Even tho I don’t mind the Mundo rework how it ended up, it is surely so that it feels more like an mini-rework then an actual rework if you put it next to reworked champions like Warwick or fiddlesticks. But it surely beats the many anime characters especially Viego the sexy depressed simp ghost king that makes you necrophilia master YI 2.0.
@@JohnDoe-xx7kc What? No. I want a VU. Better visuals and animations. Wukong is a 10 year old champ and looks the part. Have you seen his face? It's as bad as current Lulu. It's ugly and stands out from all the modern Champs and reworked Champs. I think Riot should focus on modernization of old Champs. Now whether they make them "hot" is Riot's prerogative but if Wild Rift is any indication, they won't.
@@legoshirocha Agreed. They've learned what works and what doesn't. The community isn't asking for another Aatrox but more Fiddlesticks, Warwicks, and Pantheons. A lot of old Champs need the help so they can compete with all the crazy champions they keep churning out.
I do like that his new e makes lane phase more interesting since hiding behind minions doesnt protect you from mundo at range, makes it so both players need to be aware of low health minions. Outside of lane tho ye its pretty much an auto reset lol
As a Mundo fan, Necrit said one thing that really struck me: "the quote 'Mundo goes where he pleases' now sounds very out of place with his new character"
New Sion is very very fun but he's very fun in ways that share nothing in common with old Sion. Old Sion mostly was played with full ap midlane or top, point and click 2.5 second stun, and a massive shield that exploded for massive dmg. Alternatively people would play heavy AD, rack up permanent bonus health with his e, and then use the stun to get in range and ult to nuke and full heal. Both of those are not ways you can play current Sion. The closest is the second one, but instead of lifesteal and point and click stun to engage you die and run at people with lethality built.
He may look different but at least gameplay wise his gameplay seems good in my opinion he is more like the Fiddlesticks one where he has a similar theme but changed up a bit(even tho I prefer a more stupid one)
I mean yeah they barely changed his kit all of his abilities still mostly include exactly what the old ines were just like pantheon or fiddle. They did a perfect job on the rework
Just found out about your channel, your editing style is absolutely amazing and I can only imagine how long it took to make this one! The video was awesome as well! Can’t wait to watch more.
Love the video my boi and while I don't 100% agree on some of the arguments I can see why you feel the way you do about new Mundo and wish you good luck with covering Simp King and Scissor Doll
Fun fact about your cho'gath point: A few years back, I met a rioter at a convention, don't remember his name, but he was kinda a decision maker, participating in reunions to decide new skin lines. And at the time, he told me that once, one of the guys put something on the table, Magical Girl Cho'Gath. And that he pushed for it, because he found the whole concept absolutely hilarious, big ass void monster with a magical girl outfit etc. Well, it never happened sadly, but I still remember this story and say to myself... Man, how fucking awesome would it have been? Instead, we get... sexy anime character #81 in a few months I guess?
I felt very much the same in terms of the design, Wish they'd tried to make him look more monstrous maybe even going so far as to disfigure him instead of he's hulk, but purple (which i know was their original plan with him) as far as the lore goes it definetely helps him feel like he belongs in the lore but yeah I do wish it had been a bit more.... mundo. the voice lines and animations were exactly what I wanted and I really hope that aspects translates through to a design up date later down the road for him, gameplay wise he definetely feels virtually the same, while I cant raid boss level tank with him anymore I can ad stack off hp items and just cleaver murder everyone. overall it definetely feels very underwhelming, but at the same time it feels like what needed to stay the same did.
I've been playing Dr. Mundo lately since it's rework and I have read it's lore and played his gameplay and I felt like something was disconnected between those two. You put very clearly the difference between new Mundo's gameplay and lore
I absolutely love the W change, I think it has a lot more interesting applications than just an aoe you put on for late game. It gives you a cool trading pattern. I also like that he scales a bit more clearly now instead of having to rely on strong base stats for the e. Idk, I've been loving the rework so far, though one reason for that is that I don't play jng
My friend told me that riot straight up tweeted in reply to someone that they were done making weird monster champs, in favor of genetic pretty characters
Not true at all. In all their polls players said that they prefer good looking characters, so riot just started making more of them. Now it seems like everyone loves monster champions (althought play rates say the complete opposite) and now riot backed off from that, saying they'll make more monsters/unattractive champions.
the Gragas rework will probably make him a "dad bod" guy with full luxurious hair. Also Mundos Deisgn kind of reminds me of Bizarro from Superman now? And the lore is now like Dead Pool almost.
I mean in retrospect, they were probably trying to make him fit the lore they've set up in Arcane and this design and backstory make more sense with what we've learned about Zaun through the show
I think they nailed it completely because with the three different directions when it comes to design, lore and animations it is right what mundo is. Just a complete chaos
I love the animations and I really love his dopey personality. The lore's less gooney and thus less fun, but if we're just going by how he acts and talks (which is really the context that he's USED in) he's a ton of fun! Gameplay's solid, if as you mentioned almost.. unchanged. All in all it's a B for me. But a solid B!
Yo,thats my first vid and im quite impressed, thats a lot of search for a single rework, and you sound sincere on both good and bad parts of the rework. You earned that sub, cool stuff.
It is currently June 3rd of 2022 so yeah that udyr estimate seems to be pretty accurate so far and with belveth coming this month I would say either July or August sounds about right.
They eliminate the identity of his abilities making damage to himself. Now it's just another champion that doesn't use mana or any resource. Even the ultimate is free and heals him for a ton
What are you on? Both Q and E damage him. W got changed, it now stores damage you take and you get to heal it if you hit an enemy. I think that's fits his theme pretty well. The ult was changed for quality of life reasons, using it at the start of a fight (when it stands to do the most for you) would do a massive amount of damage to you, and using it late to lessen the damage you take from it (when the game's billions of executes will probably just delete you before you can even start healing) just made the timing extremely awkward. It wasn't a thoughtful, skill based decision of when to use it, it was just an awkward one. And they reduced the amount it heals to compensate. "Do a shitload of damage effectively reducing the %HP healed by 20%? or use it late and get killed before I can heal?" Now you only need to consider popping it early to chase an enemy, but no in-fight timing decision directly leads to wasting value.
You know what I like about taliyah so much? It's the fact that, unlike Riot's 'if it's sexy then it's good' mindset, Taliyah's narrative doesn't actually focus on appearance but rather... personality.
God, old Mundo was so good. Not everything has to be edgy as fuck and tragic. Sometimes you just need a cheerful man with a cleaver who thinks murdering the fuck out of you is medicine. Also, he straight up did not need a visual update. The contrast between him being a fucking cartoon and everyone else becoming anime sexymen only made him even funnier.
