I was a fentanyl addict for 4 years. I’m now 245 days clean and sober, had a baby boy 2 months ago..I’m grateful to have made it out and grateful to be alive.
Congrats That is truly amazing you didn't let it take your entire life, your so undeniably lucky to have your beautiful son, make your world his and you will conquer this world together, Thick as thieves with unbroken bonds is the best gift life has to offer with your children and family. The life you created needs you there everyday! Live for him be sober for him and expect nothing less from him and he will be your saving grace, if he already isn't.. I became an accidental drug addict after my military career and quite a few injuries. I ended up eating 1x 100 microgram/hr Fentanyl patch every day, I used to suck on half of the patch in the morning and the other half in the afternoon. I was so addicted other people had no idea how much I was on, I could drive, go shopping and everything pretty normal, I even won a lap record in my Time Attack 34 GTR at a racetrack whilst under the influence, absolute madness. This is a massive amount of drugs and will kill an average person easily. I realised how much I was on after a while and wanted off, I didn't realise just how much I was using until I transitioned to Oxy. I actually had a single day where I essentially went cold turkey from the Fentanyl, the withdrawals were out of this world, it was terrifying and my brain essentially shutdown and could no longer talk even one word, it was hell in the most diabolic way I could imagine !!!! If I had a gun at the time, it would have been a very easy choice. I transitioned to 850mg of Oxycontin per day and then began my slow reduction for a little over 2 years, I was hooked on these opiods for 9 years in total, I have now been clean for 2.5 years and will never touch opioids ever again.
Good for you and the issue is some of these ppl who never done drugs in there life think its so easy to just quit taking them why cause they never been through or seen anyone go through withdrawals. But keep it up man
I'm 3 years clean from a 10 year opiate addiction. Now I understand why former addicts are so proud to let everyone know they used to be on drugs. It's an amazing feeling to be clean. Stage 3 cancer may be my karma for abusing drugs, but I'll fight to rid myself of that too.

I lost my brother in law back in February to a fake pain pill that happened to be fentanyl, its a serious problem right now that's not getting addressed like it should be. When I was in high school, any ads where they sent you drugs on social media were either scams or cops. It's honestly crazy people are just openly advertising to random people on social media.

Lost my sister to a fentanyl overdose in 2018. I showed up to the scene when called and saw her lifeless body with a bunch of tubes hanging out of her mouth from the resuscitation attempts by paramedics. It was a haunting image, and I'll never forget it. I miss her everyday
It’s given transdermally in micrograms to cancer patients etc. Micrograms are 1/1000th of a single milligram. It’s too difficult for to be measured and put into a pill outside of a pharmaceutical laboratory. The idea that an uneducated drug cartel member can safely do this is absolutely nuts.

about 9 months ago I OD'ed on those blue pills, granted I was on heroin as well. It took 4 hits or Narcan to resuscitate me. I've been sober for 5 months now. Anyone out there fighting this, remember that your life is resoundingly at the grace of your decisions, it is only you that can change the course of your direction. It has definitely been the most difficult thing I had to do but its possible to get sober. As long as you draw breath you have a chance to change.
I was addicted to M box 30's or "blues" laced with fentanyl. I was doing 10-20 a day. When I did them I would smoke them on foil, each pill getting about 8-12 hits each. A hit would make my withdraws go away 2 or 3 would knock me out. I would never think of taking a whole pill that's crazy to me. If you don't have a tolerance there's no reason to try them they are too strong. One pill is too much, a million is not enough. If theres one thing in my life I could change it was trying fent. The worse feeling in the world is being freezing and pouring sweat as soon as you wake up and having to find a way to give some dickhead who dont give a fuck about you enough money to meet you and sell you drugs just so you can feel normal and get the other 4hrs of sleep your body needs just to wake up sick and having to do it again. Never not even once.
I'm curious how many of these deaths are people with legitimate medical problems who turned to alternatives becasue it is so hard to get legal prescriptions now.
I od'd at a red light on fentanyl. If it wasn't for the lady behind me who called 911 because she thought I was having a seizure I'd be dead today. I've been sober for 7 months and every day I wake up grateful. No matter how bad my job assignment is for the day it makes no difference. I'm alive and I get to witness the beauty of life in all the big ways but I'll tell you the truth it's the little things in life I appreciate the most sometimes. If you're struggling out there just know it can and will get better. Seek help and be strong and persistent. You can absolutely do it.

Sorry for your loss , I've lost 5 ex girlfriends including my ex fiance from substance abuse In the last 5 years, this pandemic is horrible and Dr Phil is not exaggerating one bit. But that's not the story I have to tell here. I have two recent stories about exactly what hes talking about. I was just dating a young woman last month, we met online dating app. At first everything seemed somewhat normal. But by the second date I got to her apartment and the place was in total shambles. I knew at that point something was off. She wasn't exactly using any drugs except pot at the time but I knew something wasn't adding up. Well eventually we got to talking and she brought up a situation that happened with her ex and her daughter a few years back. Apparently she went to work one day and leaft her newborn with her baby daddy to watch at home. Well the guy passed out off of pills and the baby was in bed with him. Somehow the infant picked up a small piece of a pill and ate it. She comes home and found them both passed out. Calls the ambulance and police come. They figured out what happened and had to narcan the baby and go to hospital. Luckily both of them survived but it made front page news and TV coverage. They were both hauled in for child endangerment and served time. She obviously is a mess because of it and still no custody of her child. And her ex who was at home with the baby a year later died from his continued use of opioids. A whole family ruined. I tried to give her advice and get her on her feet but she was so sporadic and unwilling to try and stay positive that I knew it wasn't a relationship I wanted to be in .but she eventually pulled some shady moves on me and ruined it for good. Most people don't even know the damage this stuff will do to your life. It's shocking. Another ex just recently had a relapse using Xanax to deal with her stressful relationship issues. Well when she couldn't get real Xanax she got some of these fake pills from a dealer. With in a month she was completely booked and a zombie. Crashed her car and was in bad shape. Luckily thanks to God she has detoxed and is pulling thru with her sobriety but I still worry now. I can tell you from what I've seen first hand this is a epidemic like we have never seen before. Please spread the information to those who need to hear it, stay away from all opioids and counterfeit pills.
This is the thing that blows my mind. You would think after the first time it was synthesized and sent out and started oding people left and right that they would DRASTICALLY reduce the amount they put in these counterfeit pills in order to not only refrain from decimating their customer base but also to stretch out their supply and make more money that way. It doesn’t make sense that they kill half the people they sell to and make addicts out of the other half, why not make addicts out of ALL of them and also make your supply last a lot longer. I’m not advocating for fentanyl or drug dealing in any way but purely from a business standpoint it seems counter intuitive
now this makes me think, since organized criminals have been selling severely overdosed pills for some time now, that business model must be working really well, otherwise they would be selling smaller doses. every single dealer purposefully killing people by overdose would be quite unusual, it must just make them more money

My buddy and I split half an oxy (blue with the M and 30 text) on 10/8 while we were drunk. I took it and passed out. He called the ambulance. EMS showed up and I was dead. Pale, respiratory failure, needlepoint pupil dilation. My buddy was unresponsive but breathing. I’m so grateful I have a second chance at life. We didn’t know it was fentanyl, and I RARELY take pills. My entire life, legacy and reputation was almost wrapped up from half a pain pill laced fentanyl. Be safe guys.

In 2006 on Halloween I was poisoned once by a Reese's peanut butter cup I used to always check to make sure there was air inside of the wrapper to know it wasn't opened and this one was flat and I still decided to eat it cuz I was a kid maybe like 12 years old next thing I remember I was violently sick and I woke up hours later feeling horrible dizzy and discombobulated for about a day. Ever since I never went trick or treating again
Recently retired Paramedic here. In the last 5 years with the dept, the leading cause of deaths that I saw, with my own eyes, was opioid overdose. It was awful. Heart attack, as a cause of death, slipped to a distant second place. With OD deaths, most of the people were under 45, some as young as 15. So that was as heart wrenching as anything Ive ever seen. And on every shift, we would also save people who'd overdosed by dosing the person with Narcan. So much so, in fact, that we ran out of Narcan regularly. It sucked. It still sucks. Glad to be done with it.
Don't numb yourself with drugs. Learn by example. Alcohol withdrawal will kill you the same as benzo and barbiturate withdrawal. Seek God and have your baggage carried by the Most High instead of another crutch. You could be a voice for the people that are in active addition. You could tell your stories and effectively scare the life into them. There are benevolent options and outlets for your pain.
But Is it “overdosing” or drug poison? My boyfriend and his roommate died at the Jersey shore when he had taken pills given to him by a friend. They called it overdosing but that’s not true. Apparently I found out that he would do coke on the weekends but it was his roommates first time ever taking a drug. This is why I told my kid everything I’ve done bc when I tell her not to do something- it’s bc I’ve done it except drugs. I told her what happened to my friends & what really happened to V when she was little. She’s graduating college next week and I thank my stars she’s made it this far.
My brother died of a fentanyl poising last year at this time. Right before his thirtieth birthday. I found him collapsed on the ground downstairs blue in the face. calling 911 and doing compressions. He started to breath momentarily and yelling to him to wake up he gave his last breath in my arms, it was of no use. By the time the paramedics had arrived he was gone. I too think about him everyday and the pain is immense. Don’t push away the ones you love because of addiction. He was also a week away from going into a program, just needed a bed. Unfortunately that never came.

My 14 yr old son, my only son died August 27th taking a pill unknowingly laced with fentanyl THANK YOU for helping get the word out. We are devastated and our lives feel like they are over. Kids should not die for making a stupid mistake

I live in Ireland, my friend is serving 15 years for selling counterfeit valium. He used to order an oz of fentanyl, a kilo of valium powder and some creatine of the internet. He had a pill machine and could bang out 250,00 tablets a month. A tablet was €1 each. He made a small fortune as he was doing it for nearly 6 years, over that time loads of his friends and family died from overdose. He was only caught when his mother died and his uncle found her and rang the ambulance and police came to the house also. When they searched the house they found the pills and pill machine and my friend was arrested and only got charged with distribution and importation of a class A drug. I can honestly say he is directly involved in at least 23 deaths that I know of. This is a real problem all over the western world.

I lost about 15 friends due to fentynal overdoses. Most were young, some bodybuilders, some huge futures. It did not care. Took dads, friends, brothers, just like that gone forever.
I, among many others I know, have been effected by this phenomenon. In my case it wasn’t pressed OxyContin or Xanax, but rather Adderall that I procured for the purpose of extending my studying capacities before college finals. Both my girlfriend and I consumed a single 30mg “Adderall” tablet as we prepared to study together. All I recall is ingesting the pill and then suddenly I awake in a hospital bed inundated with various tubes . Apparently I had multiple organ failure, so I was on a respirator, a crrt dialysis machine, among many other things. I spent several months in the hospital recovering. My leg had severe compartment syndrome and was on the cusp of being amputated. Fortunately the swelling began to decrease, so no fasciotomy or amputation was required, but the physical pain was incessant and unbearable. In my compromised state I would ask about my girlfriend and I was told that she was recovering. A few weeks later I was in stable condition and finally discovered the real truth. My girlfriend was found dead on scene. They explained that, due to my critical condition, any additional stress might have prevented me from recovering and could have possibly killed me, so they had to wait until I was healthy enough to deal with this soul crushing realization. Upon being released from the hospital I was bed bound for an additional 4 months, then on a wheel chair for 2-3 more months, and on a walker/cane for 5 months. All the while undergoing extreme physical therapy as I had to relearn to walk. It’s been 5 years since this occurred and fortunately I’m healthier than I’ve ever been, albeit my left leg has some permanent muscle loss and nerve damage. Currently I just started my first year of osteopathic med school, so I’ve come a long way since then. This epidemic has got to stop, but I don’t see it ending anytime soon. I am under the impression that that only way to prevent this from happening is legalizing and regulating all drugs. It’s easier for a teenager to buy drugs off the street than it is alcohol, so what has the war on drugs really accomplished other than wasting money and creating a network of violent cartels that will do anything to consolidate their power and control? There’s no ideal solution, but it’s evident that our current approach has failed to mitigate the harms induced by drugs.
Portugal has legalized all street drugs and drug use went down, this is kept quiet tho. Your story is a terrible thing, impossible to imagine going thru that, wow. At one time all drugs anyone got from anyone or on the street were what they appeared to be, your sad event happened right when this began to change but wasnt widely publicized.

The only solution is to legalize it! I don't mean that u should buy heroin in a shop.. but if ur 18 u can go to a doctor and he will give u prescription for heroin. Then everyone knows what they are getting and the cartels will have no market. Without repeat customers there is no profit. In Denmark, Switzerland etc this has worked fine for heroin. But it should be even easier bcoz lots of addicts keep away from the heroin programs bcoz its such a hassle if u don't live close to the clinic.
Years ago when I was in Germany I went to a dance with a friend and they had a mobile lab outside where you could get your drugs tested to make sure you knew what you were getting. They just thought kids are going to take drugs they might as well be the safe ones.
One criticism of those kinds of testing is that they give a false sense of security as they can only test for a select group of ingredients and miss quite a lot.
I’m so glad and incredibly lucky to have gotten out of the drug scene before fentanyl became so prevalent. I would without a doubt be dead if I were a teenager today. I’m absolutely terrified for my daughter and her friends. She has a surgery coming up and will treat her pain with ibuprofen and Tylenol and will only take a pain med if absolutely necessary. She suffers with anxiety and depression and I have a feeling that as soon as she takes an opiate, it’s over for her. Terrifying to be a parent today. 20 years of drug abuse and have been on methadone for 5, which I’m slowly tapering off of. Starting nursing school in the fall and I feel like I’m finally becoming an adult at the age of 38. Life is strange.
Lost a friend to a pill addiction. She was at the theatre and living in Aurora Colorado when the guy dressed as the Joker killed those people. She was never the same. I miss her so much.
As someone who graduated from high school in 2020…. There are a lot of drug dealers giving a lot of pills to a whole lot of teenagers. I always thought it was crazy how my teachers and parents demonized weed so much when I was in highschool, when half of the school was secretly selling Molly and oxycodone to each other. The amount of young adults that I saw turn into skin and bone from drug use is scary. The amount of withdrawals I’ve seen while at school is scary. The amount of teen suicides is scary. I believe that everyone in America is so hopped up and addicted to Percocets, that no one wants to acknowledge it. And when people talk about it, the addiction comes out and the topic turns into something extremely sensitive.

The quarterback at my HS sold MDMA on campus. The was 100% protected by the school when he got caught. Meanwhile they drug tested the art students for “performance enhancing” substances. This was 2009 though, things haven’t changed I see.

1:52 laced with lethal levels of fentanyl means something different to everyone. I was burned with 1 and 2nd degree burns over 10% of my body mostly on my leg and my tolerance to opiates is extremely high and when they were scrapping my burns to remove bad skin it took 12 separate injections of fentanyl before I felt any relief and I don’t know how much in total they gave me but I never even got the nods and was able to walk from the procedure room to my hospital room after the procedure was completed. The nurses told me that some patients get nauseas and vomit or fall asleep from a single injection. Our war on opiates and making it nearly impossible to get opiates from legitimate sources have created a huge market for illicit sources for opiates and made it nearly impossible to determine a proper, safe, non-lethal dose from these street sources. Where before this was not the case with counterfeit pills being pretty rare. Also the current war on opioids has caused many people with legitimate injuries who can no longer get pain relief through legal means and are now in such serious pain they are doing things that they would not normally even consider doing just to try and live a semi-normal life. These people are risking their lives to stop the pain because there are no other options.
I loved getting the 75mcg patches I would cut them in half and chew them. Good times. Sober on Suboxone for 4 years now but they were so hard for me to get but damn I enjoyed it.
My uncle passed way last year from the laced blues. I’ve struggled with addiction as well half my life and I have almost died a handful of times from those things as well. I know it’s easier said than done but please, anyone reading this that’s struggling, get help. Get clean. It’s possible! Hardest thing you’ll ever go through but it is indeed possible. A counterfeit pill killed a great friend of mine. The guy was like my younger brother. He had a major toothache and thought he was taking a real Xanax to help him sleep. It was fake and 80% fentanyl. He was only 27. It still hurts bad. My 18 year old son is hurt by it too. What happened really opened his eyes to the current state of drugs in America.

My roommate died of a fentanyl overdose. She used to go to the gym twice a day and prep meals and she had so many friends and a supportive loving family. I walked in and found her dead on the floor.
@@steveabrams4314 it can happen on the street as well. I ran out of my prescription drugs and I couldn’t get into see the doctor so I had to buy Adderall on the street. There’s a lot of fake pills out there and do the gas station sells fake animal.
It's an attack on America by China. 100% of the fentanyl being imported into the U.S. is made by Chinese chemists in China or Mexico. It's just another form of warfare.

I was on pain pills for 16 years and on CarFetal for 5 years and had 21 friends die around me but I still did them and for us in Canada they are coming in from China into Vancouver Canada and I’m still here telling my story for some reason and now I’m clean for 3 years and have a 3 year old son and 7 month old daughter
My husband lost his 21 year old niece, my ex-husband, the father to my children, overdosed last month, both fentynal. With my ex, I always feared the call because he was an addict, buy nothing really prepares you. I had to tell my children that their dad was dead. Hopefully this episode is a wake up call for drug users.
I've been addicted to all of the worst drugs one after the other, heroin, valium, methadone, zannax, had seizures, kidney failure, now they want me to go on an injection once a month, been doing this shit since I was 17 n I'm 42, all my friends are dead, they like suffocated in there sleep from mixing things n I'm the last man standing. I just push on n pray it ends n don't beat myself up
I’m so thankful Joe has had these recent guests on that tell first-hand and secondhand accounts of the opioid epidemic and really spread awareness. I live in the Northeast US and we have been ROCKED by it and people OD literally everyday.
It's really amazing how dangerous it is today. I started college in the early 2000s and I did a hell of a lot of drugs. Actually ended up in rehab when I was 29. I cleaned up right as all this fent really began to hit the scene... A couple times I got powder with fent in it, and I'm lucky nothing bad came of it.
Easy for him... Everyone has their different demons with different chemical therapy to deal with those demons. Someone with anxiety, smoking week would make them super paranoid and self conscious so they need a sedative pill to cool their nerves.
@@africaart imo its best to deal with those emotions without use of drugs. but i understand some people have it real bad. but if they do, they shoud never think about buying black market pills. you havent got the slightest cleu if there woud be the right chemical in there it coud be fentanyl or some other research chemical wich has simmular effects but not the same.
I lost my husband to this in 2019. He wasn't an addict but did the occasional pain pill to help with his broken body. It looked just like a blue M stamp. It shattered my world. He only did half of it and was gone.
My girl died pregnant with my first son. She overdosed on a heroin addiction that she kept hidden from me. I bought a blue nose pitbull, a house and redid the entire house at age 24. Her parents called the morning she died and i fell to the floor on my knees, my 6 week old puppy licked me and i left. I left for 2 years. I didnt talk to my family, my friends or anyone. It sucks to loose someone to drugs...
Ron, yes it does suck. So why make your family suffer the loss of you too? Let them be their for you, don't make them suffer too. I'm so sad you lost your partner and child, but you can heal from it. 🙏💙
I was addicted to fentantyl when I was in HS. I had no idea what It was doing to me but I started doing things I never done before like steal and ask for money from strangers. I was going thru a rough time and I had no one not even my family to talk to. Going cold turkey was super painful but I had no choice cuz I was broke. As I got sober I realized what it was doing to me and I never did it again. I hate that part of my life and I wish I could return everything I stole. It really takes over your mind making you feel like you need it and turns you into a bad person.

I would never touch pills today, back in my party days the worst thing you really had to worry about was getting a dud and of course there were always the people who'd party too hard and have dehydration/exhaustion related medical issues, but hearing stories about a bad batch of pills taking multiple lives were very rare.
@@TezzyRs yep blown out of proportion. Number one killer for what did he say 20 to 40 something but ya ok. Most people know someone who has od on phentynol and it's not just tweaks. People with jobs and lives who have back pain etc take a pill once in a while. Now they're dead
The Snapchat thing he was trying to mention is that it’s very widespread for teenagers to have seen friends or acquaintances trying to sell these pills on social media and social media makes it more widespread

This is a huge problem at raves and music festivals now. People are buying pills thinking they're ecstacy. At the last Halloween rave, there were 13 fentynal overdoses in one night. Luckily, everyone received immediate medical care and recovered in the ER.
A beautiful friend of mine passed a few years ago from a laced pill only 25. It may have been fetynol. All I know is we used to hangout all the time, and he wasn’t an addict. He smoked weed and drank but definitely was casual about anything he did: hearing he died of a laced pill was shocking. He was a big sweet teddy bear. I think about him everyday.
Oh, didn't you hear the news. Drugs (not just fetynol) are addicting and can kill. Please spread the word, appearantly lots of kids have never heard this.

Just curious: in what region do you live? I wish I didn't know that the fentanyl thing was so terrible, but it seems to be everywhere I look over the last 5+ years and living in 2 different states. Plus my friends all over America share the same sentiment - it's everywhere they look.
I’ve been reading about counterfeit prescription pills containing illicit forms of fentanyl since 2006. If govtS plural actually cared about the safety and lives of the adults and CHILDREN they claim to, why has it taken so long if at all. 635 billion dollars per year in the us is how much treatment of chronic pain has cost both big insurance and the us govt.. 2016 the “opioid crisis “ stripped both pain meds and all medical treatment from up to 34-40 million people in the us alone.
Fentanyl is a huge problem. My son passed away May 2020 @ 20 years old, of a fentanyl laced fake Percocet, bought on Snapchat. Since then I personally know 3 other people who have lost family members to fake pills. It's a huge issue and getting worse every day.
I have suffered from drug addiction most of my life I have been clean for a little over 4 years and you are absolutely correct fentanyl is a massive problem along with a lack of resources and tools for addicts to get clean and learn how to live a productive life without drugs incredibly sorry for your loss a lot of my friends died because of overdoses and I miss them dearly I can only imagine losing one of my children have you thought of doing any kind of public service that brings awareness to these things so that this happens to less people? I don't know if you have or not I'm just saying if you can bring change to one person's life and prevent them from going down that path I'm sure that if he was here that would mean a lot to him and I only say that as an addict who has suffered many years because drugs.
@@andrewvogel5344 I have thought about it. Not sure of the best way. I thought the best way may be to show sons story at NA groups but wasn't sure I would be welcome. My other thought would be schools, catch them early, but that may be tough to break into...
I lost my brother to fenty after we both used heroin for years. Felt so guilty showed up the funeral and couldn’t give the proper eulogy without using the same shit that killed him before getting up there myself. Shit is no joke.
Also the pill isnt equally mixed so u could split it in half and u could have the half with all the fentanyl in it. Doesnt matter how many times u split it
Everything they’re talking about is 100% real and I hope everyone is listening. I lost my brother of 15+ years to a fentanyl laced pill this is very real and I hope everyone stays away from it
