My motivator for going low carb was finding out that having diabetes (I was diagnosed in Oct 2021) can cause blindness and kidney problems leading to dialysis. My husband was on peritoneal dialysis (Wegener's Granulomatosis). We researched both types of dialysis. Both types have a huge impact on your life. The low carb lifestyle can be both difficult and simple. Difficult because we are going against the current normal way of eating, but simple because it is such an easy way to remit diabetes and other health issues without drugs. And goodbye food cravings and being hangry.

I first visited Dr Sanjeev after a telephone conversation with Dr Rod Taylor. I was one of the people Sanjeev spoke about - already on low carb but unable to find a GP who understood what I wanted. I am pushing 75 years of age and walk 7 days a week and cycle 100kms each week (in three sessions). Those exercise levels are maintained to keep my cardiovascular system in good health - it has nothing to do with weight control - low carb does that. I take full responsibility for my health. I use an iWatch linked to my iPhone to monitor my heart rate, energy burnt, my average speed and VO2 max - not for absolute data but to monitor trends. I’m looking for any significant change which might indicate an issue which needs addressing. There are no guarantees in life, but it is possible to stack the odds in your favour. As for sustainability, I started my low carb journey about 25 years ago. Thank you Sanjeev for addressing my needs.

excellent. in my area I haven’t come across anyone that’s savvy with the Apple Watch data, incredible data streams that everyone should review. could definitely showcase flaws before something really serious happens. vs. one blood pressure test once a year. or less. the pulse rate is incredible when I dance to tunes. or sleep, etc.

My motivator is watching my mother suffer from diabetes watching her progress through chronic kidney disease. And now she is on dialysis twice a week. The chronic inflammation has likely caused vascular dementia. The two decade usage of statins has weakened her muscles causing so much muscular pain as a side effect that she didn't walk. Now she is bedridden. It is a miserable path that I will not follow.

Half your luck. My own GP tells me that my T2 diabetes is progressive. After explaining the old "diabetic plate" to me, his advice ended. That old diabetic plate might work if he didn't also prescribe extended release Metformin, which really doesn't work if you're on that kind of diet imo. Good thing I don't mind managing my own condition with research and a low carb diet. I'm going to succeed just to spite him.

Ketosis…. I’m T1D and am carnivore so I live pretty much in ketosis… however, the local diabetes society have pamphlets that say go to hospital if your ketone level is over 0.6…. if its over 12 then yes… that is an emergency… this so called advice makes no sense and keeps people like me on carbs when they should have none…. It’s just so stupid!!! Like this guy…

I am a MD. The problem is that most doctors don`t know that there is a difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis is an emergency in type 1 diabetics. in this case ketones and glucose are high at the same time. If you are in ketosis due to a ketogenic diet or fasting your glucose is low. Big difference.

_"Bile stasis"!_ Thank you for the term. Googling it returns _"cholestasis"._ I don't remember the phalanx of doctors that examined me using either term. But from their description, that's what put me in the hospital in 2019. I had been eating a low-fat diet for several years prior. I switched to keto the next year and haven't had any medical problems at all since.

My surgeon said it was ABSOLUTELY why I got gallstones - because of following a low fat diet. He said he sees a lot of it although I did wonder why he just didn't mention it to people, like the general public, about low fat being an issue for that. I eat low carb/keto (7 years now) - I have no issues with my diet and lack of gallbladder.

I wish he was my GP I’m yet to find a GP that supports LC. I’m 57 and been on LC for the last 22 years. My GP’s argue about my cholesterol- last one challenged me to a calcium CT and stress test. Zero issues, zero calcium and then my GP admitted that he couldn’t convince me to take a stain. To me most doctors have little credibility, especially when I see drug company merch of their desks and hear how they go on drug company sponsored retreats. I go sparingly to see GPs, last time 2 years ago. My hope is in the future we have evidence based medicine on sugar, cholesterol and LC.

You are asking a random person on the internet to provide advice that requires detailed understanding of your history beyond the scope of information you are are giving. Any information your receive must be taken with a grain of salt and supplemented by your own research. I still sense a sincere question so I will share what came to my mind on hearing your question. Look into weeks long prolonged water fasting. Mix in sweat lodge type sauna detoxing. On the way listen for signs, internally given, what brought this on and what is the path out. Best of luck to you on your journey. May you find the answer you seek.

Also once diabetic type 2 remission do homa ir test for insulin every 1 month to check insulin sensitivity increases and not blood sugar test .
