@sibongilechakela South Africa will only change when MILLIONS of people develop a different mindset. One can only successfully lead, those who have a vision, purpose and direction. I don't see why young blood should waste his/her time trying to lead people who aren't interested in living life differently. Tata Madiba and uMam Winnie dedicated their youth to the struggle, and look at where it got them? Ruined marriage, fatherless and motherless children, broken family. Today, people will glibly mock a Mandela with little regard to the price the whole family paid. Others aren't ashamed of calling Tata a sell out, yet they have nothing to show for the last 30 years, instead of fighting for the 2nd liberation, they bad mouth Tata as if they expect him to rise from his grave and fight for them TODAY. South Africa will only change if MILLIONS develop a different mindset.

We are complicit in the downfall of this country by not hold those in so called power to full account. I also agree that we have been hold hostage by the liberation blackmail rhetoric for far too long while countries like Singapore have flourished.

We've actually lost the capacity to think, even beyond the status quo......Sizwe for CEO of SABC. Human Nature is always to migrate to places of commonality. THAT is not Apartheid. It is natural. Regardless of 'colour'; and the WORLD has changed - the WORLD is no longer safe, on your own, hence 'safe' environments; And, sadly also, seemingly, many of our people of colour seem to want to have their feet on both sides....part of the modern economy and it's trappings.....but still 'longing' for the comfort of the familiar....of the 'township', the lifestyle/community/traditions. Yet, traditionally, in a 'western' society - with it's desired trappings/offering - as working class advances, related individuals move/elevate/migrate/grow/assimilate totally, to(wards)/within more affluent, class based societies/areas/suburbs. Not so, necessarily, in South Africa? Therefore/thereby, arguably SUSTAINING 'old Apartheid' areas? WE NEED TO DEFINE AND INCULCATE A SOUTH AFRICAN CULTURE. ALL ENCOMPASSING, ALL EMBRACING. ACROSS COLOUR. ENGAGING, DEBATING, ARGUING, LEARNING, GROWING. TOGETHER. TOWARDS SUCH - WITHOUT POLITICIANS; We do not yet HAVE such a culture - and therefore much of the 'division'; although already, arguably, we as a people, of all colours, are MUCH closer, than apart - certainly than those with another narrative/agenda would have us believe. TO ELIMINATE 'APARTHEID', CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT; GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE ONLY WHAT GOVERNMENT SHOULD - STOP TRYING TO MANAGE, MANIPULATE AND CONTROL SOCIETY; AND SOCIETY WILL DO THAT THEMSELVES; NOT RE-INVENT THE WHEEL;. LET GOVERNMENT JUST DO WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO. FACILITATE. NO MORE NO LESS. AND THE PEOPLE/INDUSTRY WILL DO THE REST. INSTINCTIVELY. AUTOMATICALLY. And we have an INCREDIBLE calibre of young people of (all), colour developing now - in the past years - unlike, arguably, ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. Making us unbelieveably unique, advanced. And, as a consequence, BURSTING with unheard of potential/possibilities. AS A UNITED PEOPLE. Young people such as these two MOST incredible personalities; the growth and self identity of Dr. Mpofu-Walsh for one; so awesome, and humbling to watch/see. As are MANY, MANY others. No need to rethink ANYTHING. Apart from politics, values and corruption. Look and learn from those who have gone BEFORE, and DONE what we need to do: PROVIDE a successful economy, empower the people THROUGH such an economy, such as Singapore, such as Japan, such as South Korea - and such as South Africa historically -WE HAVE DONE IT BEFORE, (love it or hate it), WITH CURRENT RESOURCES AND INFRASTRUCTURE - Apartheid aside, not to diminish Apartheid and it's atrocities; yet, not throw the 'Baby out with the Bathwater'; WE HAVE PROVEN HISTORICAL POLICIES, INDUSTRIES, AND CAPABILITIES THAT - ALTHOUGH LARGELY FOR THE PRE-1994 MINORITY - ALSO PROVIDED BETTER THAN CURRENT - FOR ALL; FREE WORLD CLASS HOSPITALS, VOCATIONAL TRAINING/INSTITUTIONS, FOR ALL, FREE EDUCATION - ALBEIT UNACEPTABLY SUB STANDARD/UNEQUAL; ALL THIS FROM AND THROUGH THIS MINORITY; it is NOT necessary to re-invent the wheel - just expand the minority successes to and for ALL? The very SAME policies that have taken failed economies to Global Powerhouses - Japan, Singapore, South Korea, China, (Chinese anti democratic society aside) etc. Indisputedly so. But we have it all here already. Proven - let the Government facilitate the same - let the people, the economy, create, provide, thrive. Democracy - Change in Government. Profoundly said. Roll on May #2024 - bring on the period of pain. We are in a coming of age. We are maturing. Will the young people step up. Will they stay. Will they sacrifice. Towards the most incredible Country - EVER? Short term sacrifice - for long term gain? AND WE WILL NEVER FALL BEHIND THE REST OF THE WORLD - 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION OR NOT. The Truth WILL set us Free. Together. Get back to Basics. The Family. The Community. Jobs. Prosperity. And all else will fall in place. Including the Constitution. And rights will manifest automatically. Within the Hearts. Within Society. GET POLITICS OUT OF DAILY LIFE. SOCIETY DOES NOT NEED POLITICS. POLITICS NEEDS SOCIETY - Time for the Tail to Stop Wagging the Dog. THINK. Beautifully put. Our people, through life experiences, second to none, have FAR more to offer than they realise - across all walks. To all. Globally. We need to get that confidence. And a successful economy and country will do that. What a powerful interview. Thank you.

I really like your comment … the view that apartheid was privatized is over simplified in my view… the ruling party has alienated many especially investors through its socialist and in some cases communist policies… added to that is the corruption which post 1994 which has nothing to do with apartheid. The ANC as the new government should have been held to a higher account knowing what came before it… unfortunately the greed got the better of them very sad for the poor and unemployed

@user-yp1pu8kj7p It's all good to blame govt for crime eg rape, hijacks etc, however, the root cause of the problem si the fact that it's the people committing the crimes. The problem is not only in government, it is also in HOMES. Family is the basic unit of society. South African families are in complete and utter disarray. A good upbringing, develops character, a lot of the ills in SOuth African society stem from the fact that most people had a terrible upbringing, and these issues have not been discussed. If people had morals, the govtr wouldn't be corrupt, crime wouldn't be rampant, homes wouldn't be in a disarray. Don't ask what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.

Spiritually the opposite of what you're saying is the truth. Government sets the tone for what society is going to become. If government did not say we are going to do this, we are going to do that, we would not have a dependent society we have now. If the government did not promote and protect white collar crime we would have less crime in society because government would be fighting it. The government is doing everything to protect its own because it is corrupt. @@lekis5975

What also worries me Mpho is Arise as a youth party is very slow in implementing new campaign ideas. Competing parties are scanning your pages for ideas in your comment section and quickly implementing them. There's nothing as effective as proving you are a worthy candidate by showing through implementation. E.G. You should be first to use AI as a campaign tool because if old parties that don't govern well campaign better than you, who is to say you will govern better than them. I sked about who is protecting Amapiano, experienced politicians saw power in this and ran with it. Ever since that comment the major party is campaigning through Amapiano. You shouldn't campaign through promises but through demonstrations.

Another idea Id wish you could discuss, If RU-vid, facebook and Tiktok can govern billions of users effectively then apps can replace ministers and governments with IT specialists, computer scientists, data analysts, app developers etc. After all, ministers sleep in parliament anyway. If managers can be replaced with software, politicians are just assigned government managers.

I think we must advocate for change whereby the people address the so-called ‘leaders’ instead of leaders addressing the people. When do people get a chance to debate and interrogate the leaders? So far in our democracy, The president only addresses the people and we don’t get a chance or platform to ask questions. This podcast here would be a great way to ask Ramaphosa’s views on this topics? He hasn’t had a single conversation with the people since becoming a president.

I have a few objective views, especially on the state of SA in terms of wherer we are and where we could be. It's important to consider that we are one of the most advanced African countries, economically and socially. Our education system, as flawed as it is is still one of the best in Africa (hence we see so many foreginers comining in). As a consultant I have worked with various businesses and institutions and I recognize that most times what blinds us from seeing what SA truly is, is our priviledge. Outside of the political system we are one of the best nations in the world, and more than anything I reall wish such conversations would stem from that point of view versus a negative point of view

@@SnatchedNaartjie Agree - any indicator requires analysis of all variables and the reliability and sensitivity and timing of these . Often a number is quoted and then seen as gospel e.g the unemployment rate , yet the informal sector does billions of rand turnover per year . The matric pass rate is another 'figure of merit' used to show achievement, where it is totally misleading as the bar was lowered and the figures can be massaged to suit an agenda and even if accurate gives no real indication of a persons ability to progress and succeed in future as attitude , ability and enthusiasm , perseverance and many other ' soft variables ' come into play which are difficult to measure

Lovely seeing & hearing from Sizwe on a different platform & learning more about his opinions & perspective. Mpho you had some great questions & I look forward to diving into your content more! Just a few comments from me: Mark Zuckerberg went to Harvard* & not Stanford; As a fellow South African who’s also been educated abroad (US tertiary system - liberal arts undergrad, state school graduate program) I think we should be cautious about idolizing overseas, & particularly the elitist institutions especially given their biased admissions practices (RE USA - college admissions scandal) and history of producing people & institutions, companies etc who perpetuate systems of inequality at the nation state & global levels to varying extents. Their ethics are questionable but the quality of education is great thanks to the resources they afford students. At the end of the day it’s not like the likes of the Ivies or Oxbridge have periodic tables with elements the rest of us can’t access. I wouldn’t consider the US as a beacon of democracy either ( I mean their geopolitical & domestic policy track records aren’t great). In the words of Julius Nyerere “The United States is also a one-party state but, with typical American extravagance, they have two of them (parties).” The west has resources but not the solutions or answers for Africa at least. Fantastic conversation!

I challenge Sizwe to show us the definition of democracy that necessarily means you have to have a change of government. There is no such definition. Democracy simply means a way of governing which depends on the will of the people. Regime change has nothing to do with democracy. If the definition of apartheid is ' a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race.' this would put BBBEE squarely in the court of ' apartheid ' - I think that world wide there is segregation on the basis of culture , education and economic resources - birds of a feather flock together ' . The new generation now have terms like ' gender apartheid ' . Those who put in the effort , despite all odds, survive and I really don't think its a race issue. Many of my friends across the spectrum have done well , and many others have struggled . The point I am trying to make is we should be very careful of using terms like ' apartheid ' only with a clear definition , to avoid it becoming yet another trigger word that will be used as the reason for many's predicament.

It's easy to tell when an interviewer has read the book from the way he introduces the book, Sizwe shouldn't do interviews to those who haven't read the book cause the conversation gets relegated to superficial stuff while the book has so much depth. Even to you Mpho, why request an interview while you haven't read the book, especially if the book is one of the bullet points in your topics?

Yeah sure, by ‘obaba’ you mean the likes of obab’uGwede Mantashe and the similarly-aged *troupe* (think, here of ubab’uMsholozi for example) that currently *clogs* (I also use this word quite intentionally) SA’s political landscape - angithi? Hayi siyakuzwa. Look, what’s difficult to argue against is the general *possibility* of increased wisdom as could be afforded by the coming of cage. But what’s even more difficult to argue against is the *reality* of the limited wisdom with which the old crop among SA’s politicians is governing. Perhaps obaba are now tired and need to rest? Angazi..

Young men what do you know about apartheid you weren't even born you need to have lived in the apartheid era to know anything of about apartheid. Don't read about apartheid in books and claim to know apartheid.

Dr Sizwe👏...my view of you as per your SABC programme, changes from today. Your dad's public profile did not help it nor your last name, Mpofu-Walsh. Not that I have any problem with the English. My favourite Bible Version is the KingJamesVersion, the hallmark of English heritage, is the anchor or base of our Christian civilization. As a Pastor I promote this version. Christ Himself being the highest form of civilization humanity can ever experience. True Freedom. Listening to your short book (metastisized apartheid)review just now, with Mpho Dagada is incisive and ideas you both espoused are really up there. Solutions to our problem in South Africa lie therein. You are a true #tintswalos which Pres Cyril spoke about. And it's the tintswalos that can change our country. Tintswalo though in Xitsonga, meaning #Mercy can and does apply to all races. Pappas like both of you are tintswalos example. First acknowledge then accept your own identity. You have to accept Mandela/deKlerk/Ramaphosa/RoelfMeyer etc, just like you honour JohanRupert/Elon musk/PatriceMotsepe. Robust engagement like EFF, now MK and PA can good wheels to move this democracy train. However the #Script. Mpho quoted a Scripture, you must underline your craft with a Script. Remember sangomas have no international recognition because they have no script. Hence, the question 'whichCraft is this' so you must delineate your craft with a script, lest you be labeled a witch.

Sizwe again talking nonsense by suggesting that governance hasn’t gotten worse since coalitions. Let’s look at Gauteng alone. The water crisis alone is evidence of this. Look at the Auditor General reports on municipalities such as Ekhuruleni that had achieved clean audits multiple years in a row and no longer do so. Same goes for Tshwane. We don’t have to believe each other on any of this. Just read the Auditor General’s report both before and after coalitions and check the facts. We can’t be using platforms to spread misinformation like this.
