Dr Steve James criticises 'unclear' U-turn on NHS vaccine mandate

Ministers plan to scrap a legal requirement for front-line NHS staff in England to be vaccinated against Covid, Health Secretary Sajid Javid has said.
He told MPs ending the policy, which also affects social care staff, was now under consultation in light of the fast-spreading Omicron variant.
Dr Steve James from Kings College Hospital who famously challenged Sajid Javid over vaccine mandates reacts to the news: "I don't think the government has made a clear U-turn."

Speaking as a doctor with decades of experience in acute hospital medicine, the most reassuring sight is an experienced intensive care consultant coming down to the accident and emergency department to stabilise a critically ill patient under your care. Frankly if I was the patient and had my two jabs I would not care less even if he had active covid! Believe you me - these guys are life savers. We need them at all costs.

so true. as an ICU nurse (in the Netherlands) we often go as a team, because the intensivist likes having his or hers own nurses around. but I can not do it anymore. I am unvaxxed but more burned out by the natrative than by covid itself. I dont want to do it anymore. I am not leaving the hospital just the bedside. i just feel so angry all the time, it is not healthy anymore.

If you are in a serious car accident and have to be rushed to a hospital i highly doubt the main thing you would be concerned about is the vaccination status of the doctor who will treat you.

Dont bet on it. I hope not many but I have had 2 negative experience. One from a paramedic who asked me if I had the jabs and why not, she didn't talk to me after that. And a doctor who moved his chair and made it quite uncomfortable. Luckily I have a thicker skin. However that could cause harm to someone who attends hospital due to being unwell. I hope to see changes in the attitude of staff.

Unmasked, I was spoken sternly to by a nurse taking my blood sample. The waiting room of 10-12 was hopping mask-hysteria, sanitizing-central. I was so unnerved I had to go to the pub later and sit and talk all evening amongst the 60-80 unmasked real people.

In our GP surgery there's a notice on the wall saying people are not permitted to enter the surgery without a mask and thry are not permitted to enter the waiting room without sanitising their hands....it also says that if you have a mask exemption u have to wait outside ,as in outside the building.This happened to someone I know who had to have their blood pressure taken,she's mask exempt so the nurse took her blood pressure in the carpark because she wasn't permitted in the surgery.....absolute madness and where has patient confidentiality gone?

@@andyharpist2938 well considering there's no magazines allowed now I very much doubt it but there is a plastic chair outside the entrance,and as for the ads inside ,ironic because one of them is offering tips on how to manage your mental health and what tools to use if you are stressed or anxious.😆 I can't speak for every surgery but ours adding to the stress.I agree with the magazine thing though,pre 2020 those magazines were awful.😆

Keep an eye pn alterative media on the human rights act next month the government will to make changes that have not happened before and are not for the public interest in health. They are seeking to take away the rights of any court that intervene with what Parliament wants to do.

The problem with that would be proving what caused the obesity. I was slim all my life because I carefully controlled my diet and exercise regime. When I had chemotherapy I put on 5 stone. As this seemed to knock out my immune system and goodness knows what I have developed all sorts of problems. I have recently discovered my health problems are probably related to insulin resistance and I am trying to deal with this through modifying my diet. My aim is to lose weight but mostly so I can stop the medication I have to take. I wish I could get a T shirt saying I'm fat because I'm ill not ill because I'm fat. Too many people assume because you are overweight you sit about all day gorging on pie and chips and hamburgers.

The lack of clarity is because of the proposed changes to the human rights act. Where our human rights are discretionary. They are waiting for that before they impose the mandate again.

The jabs are under emergency use authorisation, no side effects after a fortnight qualify as side effects and according to the waiver signed at the point of jabbing, citizen's are giving complete informed consent to the medical procedure that they're about to receive.

Was listening to another doctor talking to a football manager today saying that there have been a worrying rise in athletes that had been vaccinated suffering serious health problems. He was a doctor that specialised in myocardis ( not sure if spelt correctly) .

With the individuals that got knighthoods recently it would be criminal that he didn't but I'd be happier if those that did receive knighthoods recently and shouldn't(we all know who they are) were stripped of them. They are not deserving of the title and it lowers its worth. It appears such a thing is possible and it's called 'degradation' but I'm not expecting it to happen. Blairs crimes were already known and he got one however there are others that may not be viewed so favourably in the future.

The key with Dr Steve was Sajid was soo full of beans that nobody would challenge him and he walked about like Billy Big Balls that he asked this question while being on camera and in a position where he couldnt be protected from a response. He didnt expect any push back and when Dr Steve said his piece it was at that moment he realised...he fked up lol.

It may be and is highly probable that the terms of employment will be changed to mandatory at the government bidding..Redeployment may also become an issue as nhs work generals involves the public.. NHS trusts love "compliance" what ever route it takes... The sturik report shows clearly what the culture is like.. The public need to object as they pay for the service and are generally the SCAPE GOAT USED for implementation.. Policy is the manipulator for NHS managers and compliance... Wright to MPS as they are not paying attention to email or phone.. Worse case scenarios is Australia's "gift to DEMOCRACY ON THIS!! FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC...1984 in full veiw...
