This by far is the most heroic thing in MCU, imagine trapping yourself in an endless cycle of death, pain, over and over again, its like he willingly subjected himself to eternal hell just to save everyone else
Well since he was in the time loop he could only experience it once. Most of him died, but the last one (the one that actually got out again to live another day) hadn't lost anything. For him he just turned on the time loop, told Dormammu to stop, then turned off the time loop and left victorious.
@@9nikola That still implies that he had to go through the pain over and over again isnt it? you are right that every time the loop starts may be the past pain is washed off but the anticipation of coming pain is still there.
@@a.r.jgaming7999 Hồ Lê Bảo Duy is right because Dormammu is beyond time meaning he isnt affected by the loop so he can see Doctor Strange coming back again and again, while Thanos is within time so he wouldn't be aware that anything happened at all.
Strange is Tony Stark levels of intelligent, I am not even joking and its consistent with the comic books too. Strange may be fumbling through most of the combat in the movie because he clearly is trying to prevent death not kill people and its portrayed pretty well and even exuberantly in some scenes making him look self righteous when its a character trait. Multiverse of Madness is going to show a different Dr. Strange I hope, one that is a bit more prepared with new and more powerful spells and strategies.
Ehhh. I like it more than most Marvel but there's some huge issues with it. I can't even remember the villains name (not Dormammu but his little pawn guy) and the pawn's motives are pretty shit. Like the man wants to end the concept of time, what? That makes no sense. Without time nothing can happen and functionally nothing exists and the pawn seems to just think no one will age anymore??? The pawn even claims the building frozen is "beautiful" but without him experiencing time differently relative to the building he wouldn't be able to appreciate it. Then Dormammu himself clearly is a... Entity made of stuff... Which requires time to exist to make any sense and if I recall correctly his dimension has no concept of time but he is clearly experiencing it so unless the combination of the two realities did that to him it's pretty funky (and even then that doesn't fully excuse the weird "no time" plot). But yeah I like the concept of the sorcer stuff but their depiction of what time is, is completely detached from what time actually is. I get it's a movie and all so it can be fictional and sci-fi but it should still be logical by the rules the marvel universe sets and it just isn't.
Your understanding of how time works isn't as complete as you think it is. In fact, the question of why time only goes forward is still an unsolved question in physics (in real life, not the MCU). It's part of symmetry breaking, if you want to learn more. The villains were bad in this movie, but it's not because their idea of how time works requires a suspension of disbelief. It just requires a little more knowledge of physics than your average lay person, if you're going to dive deep into its reasoning.
The Doctor: How many seconds are in eternity? The shepherd’s boy says, “There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it. Every hundred years, a little bird comes. It sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.” You must think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird.
didn't learn this until recently but apparently Strange and Dormammu were in the time loop for like 10 years, during which Strange basically spent the whole time practicing his magic against Dormammu
@@pineapplethefruitdude4476 it was actually mentioned by the movie executives in an article for the comic version of this movie. Like how they also explained how Thanos got trapped in mirror dimension and how he used the stones to shatter it.
And then he apparently completely forgets how to use the time stone when Thanos shows up. Basically in a fight betwen people who can actually wield infinity stone whoever acts first will always win, and with the time stone you can ensure you act first.
@@TheAkashicTraveller He did say that there was only one timeline where they won. Didn't he have to not use the stone considering this was the timeline where they won?
@@TheAkashicTraveller thanos had the reality stone, a stone that literally alters reality, even if strange uses time stop or reverse, the reality stone negates it and shows it's real time
Fun fact: Strange actually doesn't remember each time he died in the dark dimension. Since he is bound by the concept of time, anytime he died, it was like he completely reset from where he "saved" the loop with the time stone. He was just aware that he had died since that was literally his plan. On the other hand, since Dormammu is not bound by the concept of time, he remembered each and every one of the times Strange reset using the time stone, thats why its speculated that Strange spent hundreds, maybe even thousands of years in the dark dimension
@@Deathmare235 Its only a theory, the writers have never specified how long exactly they were stuck in the loop for, but they did say it was quite a bit longer than what we saw in the movie (obviously). This could mean months, years or centuries but it wouldnt make sense for dormammu, who is not bound by time, to give up after a short period.
Interesting. My headcanon had always been that the sudden huge increase in his talent with magic (to the point where he could fight against Thanos alone briefly) was due to him spending who-knows-how-long practicing in the time loops against Dormammu. Although, it's very possible that he did something similar afterwards to extend his practice time.
Not even remotely a fact. "Pain's an old friend." becomes a meaningless statement in the context of this scene if you were correct; what would he care about the pain if he remembers none of it? Watch the scene again - Stephen's tone shifts with new iterations; if he had no memory he would always open with "I've come to bargain" with the exact same intonation and inflection, but he doesn't, he's making a statement that is accentuated by his determination emboldened with each death. Think about the nature of the spell - what good is a time loop spell if you remember none of it? You'd literally make the same choices over and over again doing nothing different. The whole point of the time stone is preserving the memories and conscious mind of the user even after performing manipulations of time so you can do things differently if necessary. If you were right, this would literally be the only time we've seen the time stone not protect the memories of the user.
@@roetheboat1 I've read up on it some more and its possible that the time stone allows its wielder not to be affected by time when using the loop. which would explain both Stranges sudden increase in knowledge of the mystic arts as well as the scene in Infinity war, when he not only see's every possible outcome, but also remembers the exact number of outcomes. The point about Dormammu just not being bound to the concept of time still stands, otherwise he would just reset every time ya know. I still strongly believe that Strange spent possibly hundreds or even thousands of years in the dark dimension with Dormammu until he finally gave in. Its interesting to think about either way, the writers left quite a few things up to viewer interpretation, which I find quite interesting
@Timothy Tobiason probaly cause unlike dormmamu thanos is a being from a dimension of time while dormammu isnt so he wouldnt remember the repeats and not get annoyed
@@hawkinsgames5773 oh so strange doesn't remember being killed over and again (who knows how many times) ? Would make more sense. If he did remember, he'd have some serious ptsd.
Benedict Cumberbatch plays the hero in Doctor Strange but did you know the Benedict also supplies the voice of the movie's main villian Dormammu? Doctor Strange is the only movie in the MCU where the actor played the both the hero and the villian.
I wonder if Dormammu at some point got bored and just left Strange alone until he remembered he’s a cosmic being of immense power and resumed rekilling him
I'm sad marvel just dumped Christine's character like that in Dr.strange 2. It's cool they have clea but i liked Christine's character. Steven sacrificed a lot to beat thanks so that Christine could move on while he was snapped. The price came with waaaaay more than just gone for 5yrs. Can u imagine if that really happened and how that would RADICALLY alter everyone's lives upon return. Like your spouse now married to someone else
Have anyone noticed that the place where the sorcerer got trapped in at 1:23 is [probably] the same place where Tony Stark crash-landed after he got out of the cave? Also, I love you 3,000. ❤️
Dormammu is the sentient of rage quitting. You can smash the controller again and again but the game will forever be stuck there until you actually play it how it was supposed to be played. xD
@@omarkhamis523 Ariana Grande has a similar place like in doctor strange like those bended rivers and buildings you can search "NO TEARS LEFT TO CRY" which the music video
The plan Stephen devised to stop Dormammu was pure Doctor Strange: Stephen using his wits, preptime, and a few convenient tools to defeat a vastly stronger opponent. Steve Ditko would be proud.
8:10 reminds me that God controls everything. Imagine that he can reverse time, stop it, or forward time while you are fighting a evil sorcecer. That speech itself is just powerful if it were to happen. Imagine a portal opens up an a hand comes to pat you on the back. Imagine you become the spirit or that astro body like it showed when dr. strange was fighting that guy in the hospital.
@Chris Paez its not about money, its about how u respect their hard work. if he is not monetize the video, we can assume that he is just sharing some content. if he did, then i can assume he making money by their hard work. u know what i mean
dormammu: foolish mortal what do u want dr strange: i've come to bargian (then dies) dormammu: u will never win dr strange: i've come to bargain(dies again) dr strange;i've come to bargain dormammu:ahhhhhhh
The first time I watched doctor strange was on shrooms.. imagine that lmao me and my friends were all just like “OMG!! OMG LOOK AT THAT!” I bet my gf was so annoyed with our high asses 🤣🤣
I mean this is missing a lot of the really key moments you know I'm surprised it has as good a little like dislike ratio that it does but when you look at the other cuts I guess it is the best one around
