That’s amazing. I donated today at 52, I haven’t donated since I was in my early 20’s I think. Totally forgot it was a thing to do actually. You are amazing.
A good time to donate blood is about 4-5 days before major holidays. It takes a few days for a blood bank to process the blood for use. So I normally try to donate before Memorial Day and Labor Day. Typically around holidays where there are increased accidents of all types. ie. boating, vehicle, etc. However, anytime is a good time to donate. You will be answering someone's needs & maybe prayers.
I HAVE BEEN A DONOR FROM AGE 23 TILL 45 THAN I STOPPED BUT I WANNA START AGAIN AND STOP WHEN AM 60 BY THE GRACE OF GOD ,I ALWAYS LOVE TO HELP OTHERS IN NEED AND I WILL KEEP DOING SO
I didn't start donating until after I retired and I got my 2 gallon pin last year. I sleep very well by giving blood regardless of what it's used for. I hope I can continue giving as I age.
Your risk for heart attack is significantly reduced when you donate as well, triglycerides and cholesterol levels normalize significantly. My mother was not progressing with statins or they weren’t working tried other prescribed beta blockers finally I made her donate and walla” he Bp reglulated triglycerides returned to normal Bp went from sys 210 to sys 130 now I do this as well not only do you help others in dire need, you kill two birds with one stone.
@@tlibrary2741 It's good to give every 8 weeks. Once you get over the "hump" (could be 1 donation, could take 3 or 4 times) and your body becomes more used to donating, I swear it starts to feel really good. Not quite euphoric, but this really great feeling like you got 10 hours of great sleep is the best way I can think of describing it. I firmly believe it's a good anti-aging thing to do - and it's free and potentially saves lives.
@@Craigstaaygear faxx homie. was doing it for money. nobody likes to talk about their past hustle. but that was mine. and I guess my blood runs in the veins of a lot of Nigerians
I was born at an Air Force base in England in 1981. I was moved to the US when I was 9 months old. I was told I can't donate due to the mad cow disease. Is there a way to test out of this? I'm O- and would really like the chance to donate.
I used to donate my O- blood until some San Diego Police officers went out of their way to screw me. Donating for me is like shoveling sand against the tide. Why be a good guy when tyrannts will do you harm just cause they can and society says its ok.
The world sucking isn’t an excuse to be apathetic. You should do what you can to help, even if it feels small. I’m sure it doesn’t feel like sand against a tide to the people who’s lives are saved.
While some blood goes to a good cause, much of it is wasted on fruitless cases of internal bleeding and it is just repeatedly given without stopping the source of the bleed. Then the patient dies anyway. Another popular one is alcoholic induced GI bleeds. People come in to the hospital, get blood, get cauterized, and then go back home and drink. Then they show up months later to have it done all over again. While it can be a winning situation for donor and recipient, there is a dark side to be aware of from someone who sees how units of blood are used first hand.
@catw6998 I love giving blood. How would they know you happened to be stationed overseas unless you volunteered that information? You're clearly fine and they screen the blood to boot.
No. It is the opposite actually, you burn 200-600 calories while donating a pint of blood. Gaining weight over the period of 3 years could have numerous reasons, donating blood can't be one of them.
Those that give for a good cause. "Good Cause" is subjective when the average charge to a patient who receives that blood is over $200. Blood for profit.
Those who donate blood do it for a good cause because you usually don't get paid to donate. It is not free for patients, however, because it is not free to take, test and store the blood.
That's only the first time or 2 or three. I fainted my first time and woke up to 4 of the phlebotomists fanning me. Now I practically hop off the bed and feel fantastic for the next 48 hours. It is a life extension hack - super healthy for your body to be forced to regenerate blood every 8 weeks. It's like getting an oil change.
Don't donate blood until healthcare is free Someone will be charged for your blood at the end of the day, don't be generous until insurance companies are generous too
Anemia for sure you can not , unless you dont tell them but you will likely faint during donating , and they check for your blood pressure if its too low or too high you're not allowed on that day, if you have a disease you are also not allowed , if you weigh less than 55 kgs you're not allowed
Donate blood? Which could save lives? I dont see many people donating houses, cars, money etc to others and they dont even save lives to the same extent. How about you give me a nice house, car and $10 million and i give some blood! Its a bit rich is all im saying...
marcjtdc your levels get tested before donating. Although I find your comment funny it would probably be a waste of blood it’s also tested after the donation is finished and thrown away if it can’t be used.
