I have been blessed to have trained under two exceptionally good teachers, and to me Dr Yang just exudes the spirit of authentic Tai Chi. Blessings to him

authentic Tai Chi from Yang? Why most legitimate Tai Chi practitioners in Asia say Yang's is a joke? Yang has no market in Asia. Got it?

Dr. Yang is the best (or one of the very best) tai chi chuan practitioners in the Western world. He is also a master of White Crane Kung Fu & other martial arts & has published over 20 books on the martial arts.

I’ve tried to watch many tai chi videos over the years, but the knowledge of master yang is so expansive and his style is so graceful

Mr. Yang is not recognized as a legitimate martial artist among Chinese martial arts societies in Taiwan, China and southeast Asia regardless his popularity in western countries where people know little about Chinese martial arts and its history. The lineage of his Tai Chi teachers is questionable. Kao, Tao and Yue, Huanzhi are not listed on the board of Yang family tree. There is little information about Yue, Huanzhi. Most Chinese articles say that Yue is a disciple of Dong, Yingjie. No records show that Yue is an indoor disciple of Yang, Chen-Fu. That is different from what stated on YMAA board. Mr. Yang claimed on his YMAA board that he learned Taijiquan from Li Mao-Ching. That is incorrect. Li is a master in northern style Shaolin, not in Taijiquan. I personally learned Shaolin from Li years ago while was also learning Tai Chi at the same time. One student asked Li what are the differences between Shaolin and Tai Chi. Li said that if you play Shaolin slowly it becomes Tai Chi. What??? Hello!!! In my trained eyes, Mr. Yang's martial art is created by mixing from different styles with the root in White Crane. I learned Tai Chi from one of Cheng Man-Ching's indoor disciples. Mr. Yang's Tai Chi has too many flaws like beginners per my trained eyes. He added too many unnecessary movements to confuse people. Never saw him demonstrating Taiji Jin anywhere. Is it all a commercial tinge lie?

it gives me the impression that at certain point tai chi becomes a totally abstract, not conceptual way of mobilizing pure energy.

Cesar Sandoval Hi so far only since April, however I was fortunate enough to learn from one of Dr. Yangs 5 year disciples for an extended period of that time. Lately I have been training solo with the aid of books and videos. This summer it is likely I will be visiting YMAA to train as well.

Good to hear man. Keep practicing!! Definitely pick up some of Dr. Yangs books and dvds. The Root of Chinese Qigong is a great place to start then you can go from there off of personal preference.

@ John Lee You obviously know a lot about Chinese martial arts and the lineages. Do you have any opinion on Bruce Frantzis (B.K. Frantzis)? He is a westerner who spent 11 years in China, 4 years in Japan, and 2 years in India. He also became a doctor of Chinese medicine and has written many books and teaches internationally. Your opinion of Bruce would be appreciated.

@@phil2bfree Bruce spent his prime time in Asia learning what he was interested in. At the time when he was in China, most Chinese martial arts still follow traditional way of training and concepts. Chinese martial arts has changed a lot over the last 30 years in mainland China especially the competition Tao-Lu monsters they created. I watched many Bruce's video and agree with him a lot. I've ever heard anyone explaining Tai Chi relaxation as well as him. He may not be physically fit or able to perform but his knowledge is definitely much deeper and broader than most out there.

@@JL-bo4bh Thanks so much for your time and effort in answering my question about Bruce Frantzis. After writing to you, I found a link that provides a fairly extensive biography of Bruce & may answer your questions about his health. Probably in the late 1970s, Bruce contracted a very severe form of hepatitis in India that, he says, killed two of his friends & almost killed him. In 1982, he was involved in a very serious car accident that massively damaged his spine. The two events are likely the catalysts that led Bruce to shift his focus away from being a martial artist & to start teaching meditation, qigong, etc. & working as a doctor of Chinese medicine. I can't guarantee that everything in the biography is totally accurate, since it is part of his website. But I believe the vast bulk of the information is true. From watching his DVDs & later his online courses, I can say I have never met anyone in the West who teaches with such precision. My only regret is that I feel his prices are too high, but that is part of life. His bio is at www.energyarts.com/bruces-story.

The comment is very good, as some may wrongly believe that achieving Mr Yang's Tai Chi level is the highest you can get. There is definietly a lot of crane influence in the Tao and the art differs from older original styles. However, there are so many styles and forms. Ultimately if they are useful in combat and that the circulation or flow of energy is beneficial for your health, then the art is legid. Mr Yang studied, practiced and researched a lot of staff and he is definetly a blessing, as there are a lot of fake teachers, who are lazy and egocentric.

@@JL-bo4bh So you didn;t saw . That doesnt't he do not have Taji Jin. I saw his disciple Pedro showing pretty good jin. Did you read his book about tajiquan? All is there. The problem is they are teaching somethings way around. They are not focusing on standing practice which is fundamental for Tajiquan. I think they done that because people doesn;t wanted to train such though practice they want to move they want to see what they doing.... And Tajiquan is internal. People do not understand what that mean and what such practices provides. Push hands is the best example. Most people do not understand what is it for. Stick adhere join follow. This is only a basic fundamental skill for Tajiquan without it you cannot fight succesfully in this system. Do you agree? So I would never implicate that our Master Dr. Yang Jwin Ming is a fraud. He just dissolved Tajiquan training for westerners and their lazy buts. I think this is very good organization and already proved that it''s not rubbish martial art . And as far as I know Dr.Yang never said he is from That! Yang lineage.
