Same here, Mike is only my 2nd subbed channel. Definitely don't want to miss any of his videos, every one of them is filled with pure, unadulterated awesomeness.
You are a great Mechanical Design Engineer, Fabricator, Inventor, etc! I am mechanical design engineer , have been for 32+ years, this video blew me away! Great Frigging Job!
Hello sir! just wanted to drop a quick line to you...I dont own a plane, nor do I fly...but I subscribed to you because I love watching your engineering, designing, fabricating, building, etc skills! I am mesmerized by everything you do....I run AutoCAD myself, designing and drawing stainless steel restaurant equipment....but nothing on the level of things you do....love all of it! keep these videos coming......oh, and I love watching all you guys fly too....that is some killer stuff...GO Flying Cowboys! :-)
Man... you're not kidding about the fit of those pipe joints... something to aspire to. I'm probably going to watch this about 20 times, as a reminder of how much you can get done if you just... don't... stop... working.
Great part design. You can tell you have maintained your own aircraft over the years. Sometimes you see aircraft design stuff that seems to completely forget about maintenance, and the AMEs that have to do the work.
The best engineering goes into these planes!! It is best to make it just like you want/need and not buy off the shelf and get something less than what you want!!.............Cheers, Jim Jakosh
Mike have you looked into airbags? You could get a reasonable sleeve style bag that would be relatively easy to mount and you could run a valve setup that will provide damn near hydraulic speed. You could also bleed down pressure for landing and have great dampening. Just a fraction of the weight as hydraulics with all the adjustability and speed. Back 10 years ago we had custom trucks hopping 3 feet on air suspension.
Excellent -- I had posted such a comment some time back. Instead of using pumps, consider a compressed gas cylinder as your pressure source. Something that can be recharged for numerous uses yet provide the capability only when needed/desired. Just add an HD pneumatic "spring" that can be triggered for the launch. When not in use it'd be left at any state you'd like it to for additional spring during rough landings.
Hello Mr.Patey I found your channel last year when you went to Oshkosh with Trent Palmer. It blows me away to listen to you talk about Draco, you share so much of your engineering and fabrication skills with such enthusiasm Thank You so much however....please, please don’t eat McDonald’s it’s not food, it’s salt and chemicals believe me when I say you don’t want to have the health issues.....ok I know you know what’s best for you. ✌️& 🖖
Wow, such a great mod; done quickly in typical MPA fashion! Rear gear sure moves a lot! Followed your flight to Lincoln on Flightaware. Hope the quick drop from FL23(!) just past Grand Island wasn't due to a problem! Safe travels and thanks for sharing!
I'm a young engineer getting started in the aviation business... I want to be you Mike ! Love what you do hope to meet you someday either at an aero event or if your hiring young engineers ;)
Does your mind ever stop thinking about building? You must literally go 24/7. It's an obsession with you but at the same time it's exciting to watch you talk about your assembly and unique ddesign.
Haven't read comments, maybe a redundant question. Since all parts are custom, what kind of duplication are you doing for replacement... especially for field repair. How much inventory? If/When this all works, is there a possibility of invention copyright? How much standardization could be built on this? I see some financial opportunity, maybe. You explanation and enthusiasm is excellent, even for a non engineer like me... I was actually able to follow this.
All you need to add to Dreco now, is an anti-gravity generator! Even a partial countering of gravity, like 5 or 10 %, and just imagine what a difference that could make in aviation technology! But then the question becomes, 'How much would the anti-gravity generator weigh? But then, as I think of it, countering gravity is not the same as reducing weight! It reduces mass. An, unlike just reducing weight, it would have the effect of reducing the speed of 'falling'. Oh, but then this would throw off the whole 'feel' of piloting the aircraft. I'd expect It would be way more responsive to prop torque and respond differently to air currents! It would likely require 'learning to fly' all over again, in the 'reduced gravity environment!
Hey guys, yea, Mike is a fantastic engineer; he has innovation, imagination, smarts, but especially he doesn't set on his duff and watch the efforts of others. I like the information and motivation provided in his videos, but where the rubber meets the road is when YOU yourself get off your duff from watching videos and actually use your own smarts and imagination to actually build something. SO what are you building?
Fantastic engineering, fantastic engineering skills, is there anything you can’t do, do you have to get the modifications to the aircraft signed off by the men in suits.
@@CS_247 ? I don't understand the Comment I think it would help with the Landing and take off and it's adjustable for hard take off or landing also maybe he could modify it the solution he has now is awesome and it's almost like a modified version of a coilover shock
Mike, could you have a look at cruzbike and advise them how to improve their bikes, if possible. I'm in no relation to the company, I just feel they deserve it.
I had my whole day planned. I am going to do this, this and this...then I will go here and ... *NOTIFICATION OF MIKE PATEY VIDEO* ...well, so much for that plan. I think I will stay in my Lazyboy and binge on Draco videos.
steve shoemaker 1 second ago W0W...That is some mighty fine..."welding"...Congrats....Why not w=use Titanium instead of steel is it because of $$$$$$..Or welding it....Just wondering...Thanks for the video man awesome .....!!
I will be 64 yrs old next week, I watch Mike or Mark (hard to tell them apart sometimes) and I'm a teenager again. EVERYTHING is Possible (look out Tony Robinson type Speakers) ... Theses guys don't Talk.. They Walk/Run then Zoom! My Favorite Channel (Thank you Trent Palmer for the introduction to the Flying Cowboys and the Pateys)
Mike is quickly becoming one of my favourite people to watch on RU-vid. It’s fascinating hearing his thought process on pros and cons of different ideas. I don’t build planes, but his problem solving gets my brain thinking about my own hobby projects. Thanks for putting effort into these videos Mike!
New drinking game: every time he says "back to work" or "I am excited" or does a fist pump, you must drink a shot. If you are still alive by the end of the video, you win (although you really lost when tomorrow's hangover hits you)
The only way to survive that is to use Bud Lite... but then you'd be drinking Bud Lite... Sooo, I'm sorry liver, it's been nice knowing you. EDIT: Yep, you'd be dead. Just went through and did a tally. Get/back to work, I'm excited, awesome or a fist pump: 40 shots in 30 minutes
The whole time I was thinking "Man, this guy went offroad racing like me, and now he is building trophy truck parts for his plane." So yep. I have actually met people who went either way, from planes to offroad fabrication, or the other way. Two pinnacles of engineering.
@@mjodr that's is kinda what I was thinking when I saw this also lol I never had a trophy truck but I did have a Ranger prerunner with a mid travel suspension.
You have inspired me to get my pilots licence after years of thinking about it so thank you for that. Also your design and engineering is incredible keep up the awesome work 👍🏼
When I first saw how he engineered that mount I was intrigued. I expected a nice tig weld, I then saw him walking the cup and thought to myself "OK, this guy is just showing off now". What an inspiration Mike is. Wow
Wow! This guy never stops amazing me with his skill, energy, and work ethic. It's so refreshing to see a channel like this on RU-vid; a real role model having fun and bringing us along for the ride. Keep it up, Mike!
I don't think he's said anything publicly, but the safe money is on "yes". It was heavily damaged, but not beyond repair. ...Extensive, extensive repair. Personally, I'm excited to hear what he's planning. Either he's going to fix it or build a new one (Draco II?) :-)
@@airgliderz That's what I'm saying. For demos. Oh yeah. Coming in slow and breathing fire. Snorting fire puffs on short take off after squatting under power. Too much! For the average person.
