NOT AS GOOD AS LUGOSI!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"Enter freely of your own will" - that's so ironic, consider Dracula himself can't go into someone else's residence without an invitation (at least, not the first time)...
I love how he changes his voice, his accent, and even the way he moves to represent Dracula changing from very old to young. That was a really thoughtful touch - the makeup goes a long way to make the effect, but those little touches Gary adds to his portrayal really do the trick. Great job. =)
Well, to be fair, Keanu was aware himself that his accent was terrible, and if you watch interviews with him, he's his own harshest critic on this performance. At this time he was at the height of his popularity and doing back-to-back movies, and just didn't have the time to properly learn the accent with a dialogue coach. If you watch Much Ado About Nothing, which he made a year after this one, his accent is a lot better, as he had had more time to master it.
Coppola outdid himself by sticking to OLD HOLLYWOOD techniques drawn from the imagination and projected as glass shots...the costumes were indeed the set...He gave us the transformative and illusive nature of the Count in its entirety...In this scene, the Count is physically centuries old, and yet able to exude an air of nobility while showcasing his aristocratic breeding to the core. Oldman even managed to give the viewer a touch of arrogance typical of old families like the Count's. :D
Everyone throws shade on Keanu's accent...and yet you geeks accepted Arnold's American accent for years? Hypocrisy.... thee name is film geeks. We...as no talent viewers are so quick to criticize. Get over yourselves and grow a pair (of ovaries and testes). Love this iteration of the Dracula lore...Oldman is stellar. Thanks for your channel..good luck for the future.
yeah ive seen the Bela Lugosi version and he is indeed awesome, however it is the way Gary Oldman speak that gives me the chills, combined with the detailed visual and sound effects around the character they did not have in the 30´s... Sorry to dissapoint but i dont think i will ever watch any of those Twiligt movies...
Just from a technical stand point this thing was the last great special effects film. Coppola's refusal to use even the slightest CGI when it was slowly becoming available is so commendable and the film looks more amazing than any special effects pictures out today. I'll dare say it looks better than Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park which are considered the Sistine Chapel of digital effects
He was good, as was Christopher Lee in the Hammer films, but the creepiest and certainly most nightmarish was Max Schreck in the 1922 Nosferatu original.
@manboy1 He's pretty much THE weak link in this one. I thought the design, the costumes, and performances, and the adherence to the book were pretty amazing.
His the perfect dracula in my opinion, but they had to ruin it with that ridiculous hair and clothes... and wtf were they thinking using Keanu Reeves for Harker? his so terrible in this film, im surprised they kept doing scenes with him and eventually released it. Otherwise, this scene gives me the chills, i can watch it over and over!
In my opinion it fits the ancient sorcerer thing he has in the book..and the robes are based on the Ottoman dress noblemen would wear in Romania centuries ago
too bad the only good choices of actors were Oldman and Hopkins. The annoyance and poor delivery and overall terrible acting of reeves, ryder, and whoever the hell played lucy were distractingly bad for me. It ruined the movie. Could have been soooo much better if at least mina, jonathan, and lucy were recast
