I'm surprised why it never featured in Wangan Midnight specifically, but I also hear the transverse engine layout and claustrophobic engine bay made it harder to work on (something I'd imagine would be brought up in that manga). Combined with it tipping the scales at around 200 kg more than the Supra and GT-R sort of left it in a weird spot where its stock straight-line performance proved very competent, but cornering would still leave something to be desired and power tuning would be doable yet more of a hassle (I heard they can do ~500 hp reliably, yet their complexity makes them harder to push to their limits, especially given the Supra had its over-engineered 2JZ-GTE and the GT-R was a bonafide race car for the road).
@@bryceclark6771 too bad your Contour does 0-60 in 7 seconds 💀🤣 VR-4 is 4.8 and would blow your doors off....you’re literally comparing a super GT car too an economy car lmao
Great vid!! 🤠 I absolutely love my 3000GT VR-4!!! I had posters of them on the wall as a kid in the 90s and couldn't believe all the tech they came with! I owned a 300zx TT for years, but have sold that now to focus on the 3kgt.. Here's to the underated gem! 🏎️!
@@samuellancaster1305 haha okey! Maybe thats why it's faster! 😊 I have more videos on my channel, hope you like them. Feel free to subscribe and like 😊
It understeers too much. The weight and the V6 engine placement is too forward in front of the wheels. Maybe if Mitsubishi designed the engine placement longitudinally mounted, it could handle better, even if it is heavy. The only merits it got is the amount of electronic technology it has, but remove all of it, it's just a terrible AWD car.
@@vladbanica8267 as a 16 yrs old id take a Celica GT-FOUR ST 185 or ST205 over a supra and a Pulsar GTI-R over a Skyline also I prefer the R33 and hakosuka over the R32 and R34 also the GTO VR4 drives better on the circuit than the GTR thanks to it's tech like the 4 wheel steering with AWD system and the active exhaust and the active aero which it's an electronic spoiler and electronic front lip kinda like the super cars and the GTO VR4 has good aero the R34 and R32 have the dimentions of a brick compared to it and the R33 has better aero than it's predeccesor and sucesor I laughted so hard when they said in the comment section that the GTO has a lot of underster when the ATTESA ETS from the R32 it's the epitome of underster because the car only becomes AWD when the system detects understeer it's basically an FR on normal driving but when it activates it's too late and the GTO has full AWD and the pulsar GTI-R has even less understeer compared to the R32 because it's a Hatchback so it's light and agil and the GTI-R AWD system it's not ATTESA that's why it's better than the R32 and GTO VR4 and RX7 and GTI-R and the EVO ITR and CTR and the GC8 and NSX killed the GTR at Suzuka and Ebisu and Kansai even on Tsukuba back in the 90s to early 2000s
I owned an imported 1991 GTO and it was a complete nightmare! Everything went wrong with it and you couldn't enjoy the ownership or even driving it in fear of breaking down. I even disabled the 4WS and loads of the "features" to make it more like the later models, but it still sucked.
That sums up used complex cars. USA models were just as nightmarish, along with 300zx turbos and eclipse/talon turbo models. The Supra turbo was the most overbuilt and had Toyota reliability. Will handle 500 wheel horsepower all day long on the stock 2jz, much more reliable than even the GTRs RB26. All the turbo and supercharged German cars of the last 10 years are like 90s Japanese performance cars, except worth even less because no one wants them out of warranty.
Keep in mind that the MR which is the lightest GTO trim is still heavier than the R32 GT-R. GTO MR: 1550+ KG R32 GT-R: 1430 KG BTW, how did both manage to free from 180 km/h restriction with factory speedometer?

@@tomon8327 Not really as the RB block is stronger, thicker wall and the pistons have thicker bearings rods ect so you can put through more hp without blowing a rod or hole in the block. The stock vr4 transmission and drivetrain in the gto shits itself often at higher hp. It's just cheaper to build and run say a 2jz or rb
1. should have just tested the 0-402 from when they actually left the start. without involving reaction time. and done both races completely separate from each other.
@Erik W "Cars" nowdays are ugly and superheavy. My Subaru legacy 200 turbo wagon weights 1440kg and i think its heavy. Older midsize cars weighted around 1200-1400Kg so GTO is a tank.
@Erik W well i have owned couple E34 BMWs latest was 540 it was heavy 1650kg i agree on that, but older in 80s wasnt that heavy E28 weighted around 1300-1400kg. Cars like Camaro was bit under 1500kg even with V8
